What exactly is the tradeoff for midlaners right now in comparison to ADC's?

So everyone says "ADC's need to tradeoff a bad early game for a good late game", but what about midlaners? They are ranged, being short of mana isn't as big of a problem as it used to be, decent early game, decent mid game and decent late game. They usually have better movement, armor/MR and HP than ADC's. Their kits also usually offer a lot more than what ADC's get to work with.

Nothing lol most meta mages can get rid of their weakness by buying a lost chapter then scale into a monster because they never run out of mana

Mages aren't drain tanks, ranged assassins, tank shredders all at once lategame.

Much less reliable damage than ADCs and not as great at taking objectives (besides Ziggs for obvious reasons).

Some mages have a good early/mid/late game.

But the majority of them need 2-3 items before they come online.

ADCs are mostly about consistent damage output. They're bad duelist even late game, excluding Vayne.

The pros:

They do more damage at all stages of the game generally (except maybe late late game) and have more utility. They have more burst. They get more gold and Exp. They have more AOE nukes. They have cooler looking champs (like Viktor and Vladimir). Higher probability of independently solo-carrying a game and carrying the win to the other lanes, more agency. Even if you die pretty fast in a team fight, so long as you used your nuke on half the team, you still contributed.

The cons:

There's less boobs in the mid lane, no one is tasked to "protect you" in lane (while taking some of your Exp and possibly screwing up your laning phase), you don't get no tower push (but you do get a realistic chance to win lane)... you got no DPS compared to ADC (but you got more 100-0).

Lack of sustained damage is the usual tradeoff for mages. For example if you play Veigar , miss you q and w (because you didn't land the e first or because it was cleansed then flashed away) then your damage is gone for quite some time. Even if you are super fed an enemy ADC can still kill you in 3-4 autos when they hit their power spike and if they build AS you will definetley be dead before you abilities comme off CD. Unless maybe you built item 3157 at that point, which might jus delay the inevitable.

That's basically the tradeoff for every mage that has a lot of skillshots.

They play in a significantly easier lane to gank, a lane where they need much more vision to be safe. They don't have the benefit of a support helping them. And most mages aren't strong early either. They are also gated by mana, which, while you dismiss it, is crippling once they're out- especially if laning against someone that can push hard.

Which midlaners; mages or assassins?
