He's not OP but he's definitely not weak either. People need to wait before making judgements on new champions' power or we get situations like Taliyah again. It bugs me how everyone is saying he's super weak and need buffs because if Riot is dumb enough to listen to us and they buff him before people learn how to play him, he's going to become grossly OP.

Then comes the gutting...

wait I am arguing he is op as fuck especially in the jungle. The guy can burst a lee sin while building full tank his q's base damage is gross cinderhulk + Locket + other tank items and he just is a nightmare especially since he can reactively ult to completely turn a fight around.

How does he burst... well, anybody? He's an unkillable monster but he's definitely lacking in the damage department.

Look at his bases and scalings dude. They're amazing. He's got 70% on E, 100% on Q, and 60% on R, iirc. Then he's also got 300 base damage on Q, 200 something base damage on E, and 9% max health on Q.

70% scaling on R as well + 40% MR and 40% AP on passive which in his combo he gets 2 hits of easily

I mean with just item 3190 + item 3001 for his MR/AP with Standard runes/masteries (MR glyphs and AP quints) 12/0/18 (this is with a no stack bounty hunter) At level 11 his combo is 1885.30016 + 9% of the targets max hp damage And that is with Abyssal as his ONLY AP item, more ap grows that fast

Supreme Senpai691 votes

I'll take your word for it I guess. Though to be fair, if you build anybody with damage items they're gonna burst. But he has high bases because he doesn't really build damage.

Wow anecdotal evidence that doesn't prove anything!

Or you could listen to literally every single last Diamond player I've spoken with, or me who's played Galio hundreds of ranked games (infinitely more than 99.9999% of the playerbase) and can compare/contrast new with old

I think ult's a little too fast, compare it to Panth and Shen and not only is it a million times better in terms of CC, it also sets up the rest of his combo to stunlock someone for >3 seconds, and has a decent mix of protection and damage.

Q damage is bullshit against ranged, though. It's almost impossible to not get hit by all of it, because it's huge. I get it's just big enough to hit all three casters, but it's too big against champions.

Galiö2 votes

He isn't weak. He isn't strong either. His does easier basic spell dmg than old Galio. He is less tanky than old Galio. He has less burst than old Galio. Only thing he has is more reliability. You can do almost everything he does in a team fight with Nautilus.

He's strong.

His win rate is 27% and he has less CC than most other tank and only ability that does good damage is Q and a little bit of his passive. So strong.

Baron of Bread2 votes

Less CC? That's straight up wrong.

He has an AoE taunt, a single target knock-up and a large AoE knock-up on his ult. That is about as much cc as Leona, Gnar, Sion and Gragas.

Papa Andrei1 votes

Lets see.... His Knockup is single target and does less damage than Vi, with a delay, and shorter range. AOE Taunt is super telegraphed, lasts for 0.5-1.5 seconds. He slows down while using it, and it has a short range. His ult knockup is situational, only works if enemy stands in the zone.

Leo, Gnar, Gragas can all land their cc much more reliably. Leo can hit hers without much setup, as they are all point and click (Besides root which is super easy to land) Gnar has a big radius around him and can jump in the middle of enemy without being stopped by first person he hits. Gragas Has a line dash cc, much like galio, But he has a free aim AOE displacement.

Baron of Bread1 votes

It is important to remember that Galio is not a Vanguard, he is a Warden. His job is not to engage but to peel, which means often he is dealing with people trying to get past him, not getting him past them.

His AoE taunt is telegraphed because it is super powerful. It has ultimate level potential as a basic ability, if getting the full power out of it was reliable it would have to be an ultimate to not be broken.

The strong part of his ult isn't the cc, it is the long range instant protection of an ally that is powerful. That is why Shen has been in the LCS despite frequent nerfs, sudden protection of an ally and turning a number advantage is extremely powerful. Yes, enemies have to stand in the zone of the ult to be hit. However, that is a large area and would likely require them to back off whoever they were jumping on (or jumped on them) immediately to not get hit. The same is true of Leona's ult (which is ground target, not point and click), except that ult doesn't hard cc outside of the center of the ability.

Gnar doesn't have a 40% or more damage reduction that he can give to allies and Gragas doesn't have as strong a damage reduction (by half) or as much hard cc. We can compare those champion's non-cc strengths, but my point was about CC.

His ultimate potential? You mean his old ult that was instant, immune to tenacity, and dealt almost 700 base dmg?

Baron of Bread1 votes

And was the vast majority of Galio's old kit?

The potential of Galio's W for cc is comparable to Malphite, Sejuani and Leona's ultimates. It doesn't do damage but it does grant base 40% damage reduction for 2 seconds, so even if you don't hit anyone it is still useful (and even one person refreshes the damage reduction). Yes, you are slowed while channeling, but that just means it is difficult to engage with that ability alone.

His ult is in no way situational, it's fucking huge and it's only a single second channel.

His E can be comboed with his R.

Same with his W.

His chain CC can easily lock down multiple targets for 3 seconds, giving them ~.75 seconds to act between his E knock up which didn't hit them and his taunt.

Leo, on the other hand, snares someone, which is nowhere near as effective as a taunt or knock up. Then her ult is very possible to dodge, and her Q is her only reliable CC. Gragas has his ult, his E is dodgable sometimes, but the big thing is he's only got 1 AoE cc and 1 singletarget, which Galio has 1 singletarget and 2 AoE. Gnar's is really reliable as well, but it needs a wall so meh.

Papa Andrei1 votes

Was mearly comparing them to the examples that were listed.

His ult is situational, it requires an Ally, so it has a criteria needed, thus its situational.

His E ALONE is a delayed dash with a small range.

His W is super telegraphed taunt that can be dodge by anyone with above 340 ms.

I was merely describing the cc to the dude as he values Galio ult to a free aim Leo Ult/Gnar ult.

Leonas R. By itself. Lasts almost as long as Galios e, fully charged w and r if you hit it. At full length of all the spells.

Baron of Bread1 votes

Her R CCs someone as long as Galio's W at full charge (1.5 seconds, look it up). Leona Q lasts 1 second, Galio's ult lasts .75 or 1.25 seconds. Leona's E roots for .5 seconds and Galio's E lasts .75 seconds.

Galio can cc for just as long or longer than Leona with larger AoE on those abilities.

That's accounting for 'Weekly' old Galio had a win rate of 54% which makes his rework have a higher percent. His daily win rates ate 27% and peaked at 30% at one poi t but then dropped back down.

Can't argue against that, unfortunately. That was never really Galio's thing, though, but... Well, he has it now.

Also, I'm pretty sure Galio did more damage. Not much more, and his new Q probably does more damage now than his old one, but overall, his kit has more damage in it. I'd almost always pump out the most damage out of either team when I used to play Galio.

Ignoring your transparent e-peen flexing, he's strong, can be overbearing, but I don't think he's op. He has weaknesses. Also you can't use your own history as proof or evidence to whether a champion is strong, weak or balanced. That's now how it works.

Looking at his kit, his base damages are impressive already, and he still has relatively good AP scalings on everything.

His passive isn't exactly overwhelming, but with often it might come up in a fight...

Because MR contributes to his ability's damage resist, it makes any combination of HP + MR exponentially tanky whenever he has his Shield of Durand passive and/or active up. This is where his (current) niche really shines, because using Durand to block not only magical, but also physical damage means that in his ideal match-ups, he would have to build barely any armour, allowing room for AP and/or HP in his builds.
