not really, most freemium games make it so you are not getting the full experience, by playing it for free. They use a model that the only way to make yourself better at the game is to do microtransactions. Mobile games use this to con people in buying things rather than wait or have the experience they already have. Riot gives you the option. Skins dont make you a better player nor hinder you if you dont have/put money into the game.

It's not a con, League's business model is based around micro-transactions. Skins are completely irrelevant, I'm talking about rune pages, runes, and champions. Yes you don't have to pay, but you will not unlock most of the game for a very, very long time if you don't. If you go into a competitive game with only 20 champions you're at a huge disadvantage to someone who has a much larger roster/multiple different rune setups for every situation. I've played the game for over 5 years I have the experience and you don't.

this is why I hate the boards, high elos just throw out any ones opinion if they are a lower rank. Sorry I dont dedicate my time to climb the ladder and prefer fun normals.
Also you don't need to buy champs, nor have to play ranked immediately when you hit 30, you can wait to amass 20 champs. As for runes you only need like 15 bucks to get three extra rune pages. Never said league was a con, I said most freemuim games. League isn't freemium, league doesn't hinder you by not buying things, other games do and limit what you can and cant do depending on the money you put in hence "freemuim" its free for a premium amount.

that is the most valid argument... you should listen to people who have played the game more than you. That's like saying if Barry Bonds told me a certain way to hit a baseball, I shouldn't listen to him because I played minor league baseball in 4th grade so I know what I'm doing. If TheOddOne told me "hey x champ is best in solo q because x reason" I would listen to him because he has played the game longer and at a higher level so he knows what he's talking about.

What disadvantage? Like I said, when you hit 30 it doesnt mean you have to play ranked. You can still grind it out for runes in normals, for before I hit 30 I had two full rune pages and 18 champs, and out of those I bought four champs (because they came out and I didn't have the lP). The only time you "really" need runes is ranked, but in normals its just normals, so itll be hard without runes but you will win. Riot doesn't force you to buy things, instead it gives you the option if you would rather buy than grind it out.
But you are right about one thing, if a pro player told me how to play this game I would listen, because they are paid to play. Just because someone is higher ranked does not always mean they know the game. Some people only play one champ does that mean they can help me? some people get carried with a good partne, does that mean they can help me? If you are paid to play this game, then I will listen.

HexaDecimel1 votesIt's kinda tiring hearing people trying to use Rune Pages and Rune pricing to justify their arguments. Yes, I agree that Runes are a bit too expensive and I don't really think the lower tiers should exist. However, getting to level 30 can take a while, and there is plenty of IP to be gained during that time especially if you make sure to get the first win bonus everyday. I saved up and waited to buy rune pages during their 2 for 1 sale, got like 6 pages. I waited for discounts on runes then bought the ones that I needed. Yes I have spent money on this FREE TO PLAY game, but for anything that I felt I needed to play the game I only ever used IP.
