One lame thing I think is super common, but no one talks about

Is how harsh the general population is on non-meta, but viable things. A few months back I was doing a gunblade Kai'Sa build mid that worked 80% of the games I was in decently well. But the 20% of games I was doing subpar in, I would get flamed relentlessly for something not Guinsoos on Kai'Sa.

Even a few years ago way back in season 4, when Urgot was still the old atrocity he was, I played him quite frequently. I peaked at a 74% w/r with him, and yet every game I did even kinda bad someone threw the game over it.

Most recently, I accidentally took Fleet on Irelia and it ended up being super strong. So I took it the next 3 games, did pre well the first two and not so much the third. Ended up getting it spam pinged by my team all match.

Like, I don't understand why people are so against new things?

idk rant over

You don't get to make your own standard for "what works well". Thus, we have no idea if it actually worked well to either agree or disagree with you.

Think about it this way: Guinsoos (or whatever the meta build is) on Kai'sa is stronger than Gunblade. In most cases, if you performed well with Gunblade, you would have performed even better with Guinsoos. The better you perform, the higher your chance of winning the game is. Your teammates wants to win the game. Logically, they would want you building Guinsoos, so you perform better, making them win more.

Of course, you might think to yourself that Gunblade is stronger than Guinsoos, but that is another discussion. I do think people overreact a little too much to off-meta builds, but I can't really blame them.
