Champions should be balanced internally

Items should be something you buy to boost your character. No champion should be specifically tied to specific items. We have seen so many problems arise because of this.

The Rylai's problem The Armor Pen meta Even the old tank meta

They are all products of "Morde and Aurelion need Rylai's to be viable and strong, but then it's a problem on Cassiopeia and Kayle!" No, to me it sounds like what Morde and Aurelion need are their own tools, in their own kit in order to be strong and viable. So Rylai's can be adjusted as needed without killing them.

This idea of balancing champions through items is dumb, because any particular item that is toxic on one champion KogMaw preunrework with any on hit item for example, means anybody else who buys on hit items suffers Shyvana Udyr Warwick. And it works in reverse "item 3116 is toxic!" but then "We can't nerf it because Mordekaiser and AurelionSol need it!"

Here is an idea, let's make champion's kits fully internally functional! Then make items this nice bonus you buy with stats, actives and passives. Instead of saying "We are releasing a new mage, but guess what, he doesn't function correctly unless you buy Rylai's on him. Which means that item must be strong for his sake."

Sounds like solid thinking, my only problem would be the problems that would cause.

Take Mordekaiser for instance.

If you buff him so he doesn't need Rylais, he will take it anyway and stomp.

If you keep him nerfed with that intent of him buying it, he won't be so oppressive.

Its a sucky predicament I know, bit its necessary till the champs get changed.

We could add a slow to his kit, or rework him.

Well the reworks a long way coming I'm afraid, and adding a slow to his kit will just make him double dip with Rylais for a stronger slow.

Well the nice thing is, that slows no longer stack. So if he gets a 5-30% slow for example(based on level of ability. Now I know little about Morde so this is approx), but then we nerf Rylai's, he can still take it, but he won't die from it being nerfed.

Hmmm.

If slows dont stack, then this could work.

I've played Morde once, and I think the slow would be best applied on his E and Ult, since those are his ranged skills.

Adding them to his other skills would be overkill imo.

Sounds solid to me. Yeah, stacking slows was removed, you use to get Rylai's on Teemo in S2 before they removed stacking slows. Was funny.

Sounds terrifying lol.

Now that Rylais can be shifted, we can add a higher AP scaling on Shyv's W and E so AP Shyvana mid will be a thing without worry of breaking other champs!
