So what's the counterplay to malz's passive?

Legit question. I've played my share of him and obviously his ban rate is still high as hell so I'd like to know how i can stomp that passive of his. Anyways, I originally thought that auto attacking him whenever it was up would be a good idea, but then i realized that unless I'm playing Caitlyn or late-game Trist I'm going to be taking Space Aids or a silence in return. What are you supposed to do anyways? Extreme range mages? Or someone thats tanky enough to not give a shit about his passive and goes to whack him every time it's up? He honestly doesn't seem as bad during teamfights, it's pretty much just more of CC his ass at least twice and he's going to die. Help?

One auto attack pops it... so auto him once, then wait 1 second for it to wear off. Then unload on him

yeah, you need a champ with low-cooldown, low-mana, high range poke that isn't extremely central to their kit

someone like orianna or ziggs would do well mid varus, maybe, or ashe or cait as you said

i've been saying since the start it's a braindead, terribly designed passive

Look at it like a Banshees Veil Passive. Pretty much just got to pop it with a random long ranged spell. Artillery Mages are the types of champs that make his life miserable. He counters assassin-y "in your face" style champs. Take the exact opposite of that and you win.

you poke him and then you use your cc.i dont see whats rocket scienct about this. the other day as zed i was facing a 15 kill malzahar. he was chasing me. i qd him. waited and all inned him. any aoe spell or some skillshot lands on him his passive is gone. i dont have too much trouble with it.

"Extreme Range Mages" is my suggestion, but that's also my bread and butter. Break his passive from well out of range, poke him out from out of range, make him question coming anywhere near you.

Personal favorite: Xerath. Your Q has a very nice range, with little warning and lots of damage.
