Thornmail rework idea

These changes are meant to make Thormail more useful against AS-based champions in general, whether they do physical damage, magic damage or true damage. Let me know what you think about it, because I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how to make the passive equally effective against crit-based and on-hit champions.

item 3075 = item 1031 + item 1057 + item 3067 + 680 gold = 3000 gold total 55 armor (1100 gold value) 45 mr (810 gold value) 200 hp (532 gold value) 10% cdr (267 gold value)

(the raw stats are 90.3% gold efficient)

Unique passive: Reflects 15% of the damage taken (+ 15% bonus armor and mr) from basic attacks and on-hit effects back to its source as magic damage (calculated before any resistances or reductions are taken into account). Enemy champions damaged by this passive are affected by Grievous Wounds for 3 seconds.

If it gave Grievous wounds then the damage reflect should be pulled from the item.

That being said I still prefer current Thornmail since I'd rather not pay 3k for an armor item thats useless if you don't get hit.

In fact I lowered the amount of reflected damage. My reasoning behind it was that on-hit champions usually don't have sustain, therefore the reflected damage on them is going to hit hard. On the other hand, those who build crits and lifesteal are going to completely ignore whatever number I put in, so that's when Grevious Wounds kick in.

I feel you, and props for taking the time to try and think of such an interesting defensive option.

Honestly, the idea might be better served on a new item rather than adjusting thornmail. True most uses of the item might be edge cases but those tend to be the most fun for a player like myself to toy with. Stormraiders Surge and Thornmail is a very nasty surprise if your willing to play a champion that is weak to kiteing.

current thornmail isn't even stat efficient.

Considering the item has a scaling effect attached to it you are both correct and incorrect. It still very much serves the function it is intended for even if the rest of the item build you are working on is required to compliment it. Simply discounting the item because 'vacuum math' says its bad is kind of a poor habit to get into if expanding game knowledge holds any value beyond 85.11%

Honestly this rework just sounds too OP. I think every tank would just end up building it lol.

I don't think so. The amount of hp given by the item is really low and it doesn't synergize well with item 3082 passive. And, even if you choose to buy it, you have to give up on something else.

That's a really good Tank item due to the stats alone. The last item that gave Health, Armor, and Magic Resist was item 3190 and it was bought nearly EVERY game when it had the Holy Trinity of Tank stats (plus CDR).

Well, it's not that gold efficient tho. Also, it's made out of 3 different components, so it forces you to commit to a certain build path.
