Please Help Supports & Ideas
Check bottom of very long post for TLDR; :-) I am a support main, which you may not be able to tell by checking my match history, but I definitely am. I am also not happy with the current state of supports, so I will break it down for all the ADC and mid mains. TYPES OF SUPPORTS(Some champs may be multiple):
- Damage supports, spend time peeling by putting so much damage on that you shouldn't dive the adc, generally have 1-2 support abilities,

- Utility supports, mostly peel for adc's, but are also very good at setting up kills and making them easier to get, usually not much damage,

- Healing supports, spend a lot of time healing and protecting allies, hated by most everyone, and almost always have a fair bit of cc,
There are a few anomalies in these types of supports, but this is about 90%+ of them.
THE MAIN PROBLEM: It is nearly impossible to climb as support stuck in a bad mmr. I am bronze 1, but I usually match with low ranked silvers. I want to get to silver before the end of the season for the border. If you play a utility or healing support, you can have amazing mechanics(I don't have amazing mechanics I just have a bit above average ;-; ), but still not be able to climb because of teammates. Obvious of course, you can't carry as a support! But I have had teammates who say things like,(these are NOT exact quotes) "Why are you complaining? You get free lp from being carried as support." or "Thanks so much support! You really helped me thanks!". I am kidding of course about the second quote, nobody ever thanks their support( ;-; )! But the first quote is a thing I hear often. It is very wrong. With a bad support, it is hard to win; however, if you have a good support, that matters almost nothing! I have played against supports that have done basically nothing and lost lane, but because other lanes are doing well, they can still win. I have also played up against supports who are really good at the game and their champ, but just lose because their team is not working with them or is simply not good enough for them. I think riot really needs to change this. I think the next big class-wide update should definitely be for supports. Think of this as a PSA, made for people who do not know the hardships of supports, and how hard it is for us to climb.
SOLUTIONS/POSSIBLE IDEAS: I came up with a few ideas for a class-wide update, but first I want to cover what I think is a good design for a support.
- Diversity: A good support is should not be good for only one thing or should only be built one way/have a standard build you build 90% of the time. Two examples of diverse supports are

. You can build Sona with lich bane and a lot of AP and get one shots in to protect your AD from divers, or you could build her with cdr and healing items so you can sustain your team if they have a lot of poke. But with champs like
or
you basically just build your support item because you are supposed to, and then full damage. I am not criticizing riot or people who do this, but there is basically no reason to do anything but that! - Skill: I think supports should be able to be played and not do terribly with not much previous skill, but be able to do much better when skilled at them. But a
will almost always beat a
, just because Morgana can basically block his ult and stun, out damage him, and basically ruin everything for him. In my opinion, Morgana really isn't difficult and most of you won't disagree, but Bard is a really skillful champ(I have level 5 on him), and Morgana may counter him, but it isn't fair to the Bard player how he can't do basically anything if Morgana is around. - One ability centered: I love hook champions, having level 4 on Thresh and owning Battle Boss Blitzcrank, but often they don't feel fair, even though they have some of the most straightforward counterplay in the game: Dodge the hook. But sometimes it just feels like, "Yes! I am totally set up to kill the enemy ADC, they are at 200 HP and I have my
E on them!" and then B
Q-E's you and just from the time it took for you to travel, the enemy ADC has killed you, leaving you feeling like ;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;. That is very weird, but it has happened in my games a number of times. And the prospect of just being "outplayed" just because the enemy hit one measly skillshot is unsatisfying.(I am not hating on Thresh I will always be supportive of him he has much more skill then just landing his Q ;-)
AND NOW FOR THE ACTUAL SOLUTIONS YOU WANTED IN THE FIRST PLACE:
Support items in general: Make more support items so supports can be more diverse in the way they itemize, like maybe an item that has an active where you can give your life to an ally if you are playing
or something. I just want it to be so supports are not just repeating 1 or 2 builds every game, but where support itemization is an actual thing you team will have to keep tabs on other then just gauging what point in the build the enemy support is.
: I think Zyra should be punished for needlessly using up her seeds or not using them. In my opinion, right now it does not matter if Zyra uses up all her seeds on the ground, because they will just regrow automatically at no expense but time. Riot could give her a more protective kit, one that makes it so she doesn't just kill her enemies for her ADC, she actually protects them. Like give her an ability where she casts it on a seed and it grows a protective barrier that acts as sort of a
shield. Maybe give her abilities you cast ON seeds so she can't use up like 305 seeds in one ability and makes her positioning more strategic.
: The idea of your abilities affecting your other abilities is really cool and I like it, but Brand is too effective at both damage and peel in my opinion. His poke is great, his CC is great, his peel is great, his AOE damage is great, what he lacks is range, sustain, and tankiness. I feel like there are just a few combos you do with Brand, and that is basically all there is to him. Burt combo, aoe combo, waveclear combo. Maybe he should be changed(again) to make it so W-Q has a different effect then E-Q. Just something to spice him up a little :-) I am not sorry.
: I will be very clear on this, I hate Soraka. I do not like how she basically just heals and heals and heals. I think she should be changed so her heal is a channel, kind of like a reverse Fiddlesticks drain you cast on an ally. This would make it so she can't run circles around her low health ADC constantly heal them while blocking everything, and still being incredibly tanky because you fit three tank items into your build. It also helps with conserving your heal, instead of just using it whenever a teammate does not have full health.
: Oh my sweet Bard, how I used to main you. I have barely any ideas for your near perfect amazing design. But an issue I have found with Bard is how easy it is to dodge his ult. It is a huge part of learning Bard, using his ult. It is hard to land and even harder to utilize correctly. If you have ever played Bard, you probably know that his ult has a very long time before it lands, and is very easy to dodge. I suggest only one change to his ult, and that is that the ult indicator not visible to enemies during the cast animation. It changes nothing about the timing, just a bit harder to dodge early game.
: What? What are you doing here? I don't like you and you aren't a support. What's that? Trundle support is a pro pick? Screw that, nerf him. Nah JK I just want him to be changed so he is not as effective as a support. Same with
: Ahhhh Leona, I remember when I played a couple games as you and many more against you. I just hate it when you fight me in lane and win support vs support. Please tone down her damage ever so slightly and lower the speed of her a just a tad bit please.
