How reliable is NA.OP.GG and lolnexus data? How is the MMR determined there? When i lookup the games in lolnexus the average team MMRs are listed around 1200, but when I go to NAOPGG it lists me at just under 1500 with average at my level being just under 1400.

  1. Are these MMRs just made up thresholds at each level and have no correlation with the 2 sites?

  2. Why wouldnt I get more points to get me closer to my actual MMR? Just been getting 21 points per win. Gold in S4, didnt play last year, came back rusty and tanked all my placements a few weeks ago and climbing now again. Getting people doing their placements, no idea how to build (tear and runaan's jayce :/...) slowing down the climb

  3. How do they determine that my actual MMR is higher than my placement on OP.GG? Coming back I bombed pretty hard for the first 2 weeks before getting together, yet at a low % winrate it still lists me as higher MMR than my level?

They're internally reliable because they are arbitrary estimates. op.gg will always estimate your MMR the same way as itself, same with lolnexus.

Do they represent your true MMR that Riot uses? No.

If you're consistently getting more MMR per win than per loss, then your MMR is above your rank. When completing placements on an account that has played ranked in the past, most people get placed below (and sometimes significantly so) below their MMR. So if you just finished placements, it's pretty natural for your MMR to be above your rank.

It helps to make sure people get the joy of climbing, instead of being put in stasis of where they belong with minimal movement. (not relevant for higher MMRs, since there's a max you can get out of placements)
