why the hell is ryze getting another update before Yorick???

Yorick has been in progress sinse Poppy rework release, they just started on Ryze after they finished Taric. Yorick just takes ages because champions that have minions like Yorick ghouls take ages to finish

They started on Yorick a while ago, he got put on the list when they were far enough along that they were pretty sure they had something that they could finish and ship.

Ryze was assigned to a different team working independently of the Yorick team because he cannot be balanced in a state where he's playable in solo queue without being oppressive in pro play.

Yorick is taking a lot of time because he is getting a full champion relaunch. They started with some ideas of his theme but pretty much everything else had to be built up from scratch, including full art assets. With Ryze they have pretty much everything they need in terms of art, playstyle, game role, even most of his abilities, etc. They just need to mix it up in a way that players can perform decently with him without sub-100 ping and the mechanics of a top-tier fighting game player.

Ryze is getting a smaller level rework and a visual update along the lines of Gangplank; this means one or two of his passive/skills may change completely, he'll get number tweaks, but overall, how he plays is still generally the same. His visual update is probably the largest part of his rework. Yorick on the other hand is possibly one of the worst designed champions EVER. He's getting a Sion/Poppy/Taric level rework and visual update, but I believe it may even beore extensive than that. His kit does not work, period. They have to essentially invent a brand new champion that is a minion master who has presence in team fights. Creating an entirely new kit takes a helluva lot longer than the spell replacement/number tweaks Ryze needs, even if they're both being worked on silumataneously. There's brainstorming, internal testing, broken mechanics, back to brainstorming, more internal testing, more broken elements, more brainstorming, etc. It's a long process and that's why they can crank out Ryze a lot faster than Yorick.

I never said he wasn't. There's a reason he's getting reworked to.

Have you ever seen him in LCS? Also Riot has never really been able to balance him he's either underpower or overpowered.
