Should Mundo have a Taunt?

I don't know, it just seems like Mundo it a little bit of damage, plus a meat shield. And Shen is a meat shield, but he's a meat shield with a taunt. Why can't Mundo have one? Maybe change his E to a taunt? I never liked that AA buff anyway, always seemed kinda useless to me besides a little extra punch. Like I get he does 25% current health with his cleaver, and AOE, but really I think even if that was nerfed a little being able to be a really viable meat shield would be better. Generally what a tank is anyway, right? Meat shield and sometimes CC, sometimes health percentage damage.

I mean, think about Gnar, he does 6-14%(or more, depending on whether you build any AP or not) max health every 3 hits and also has CC, is huge in Mega Gnar form for a meat shield, has a team-fight changing ult plus an AOE stun, and when he's not in Mega form he can poke better than Mundo with his AA's and W, and honestly it just seems like he's better in every way.

And for another example, Sejuani. She has two initiates, she's generally tanky, she's big for a meat shield, she has %maxhealth damage and AOE, and tons of slows plus her ult for AOE stun(one of the two initiates).

Shen also has a global shield/teleport, should mundo get one of those too? Different champions have different strengths and weaknesses, just because one champ has something doesn't mean a champ in the same role should too.

Mundo is a ton of damage. His abilities aren't lacking in damage by any stretch, and offer such solid bases (and that %HP scaling) that he doesn't need to build damage to lay down a lot of hurt.

A 100~200 AD steroid isn't exactly low damage. It's just more sustained than Bursty in Mundo's case, favoring building a ton of bulk so he can last long enough to make it devastating.

And Shen is a meat shield, but he's a meat shield with a taunt. Why can't Mundo have one?

Short answer? Taunts are lazy/bad design.

In a great game - a tank is going to be enough of a problem that the enemy team actually wants to focus them,. The opponents of a tank will have to decide how much focus they should direct at the tank, and the skill of the tank player will determine how much the enemy team feels they must deal with the tank.

If a tank champion can legitimately generate aggravation and threat in the real-world sense that's a lot better than simulating those functions.

Finally - in regards to Shen vs. Mundo:

Shen is a tank. Mundo is a fighter.

Tanks are tanky + CC/Utility. Fighters are tanky + DPS.

Fighters merit getting focused almost exclusively for the same reason an assassin, marksman, or mage merrits getting focused: they deal a lot of damage. Also, defense on fighters mirrors the range, mobility, or mix of both on mages, assassin, and marksman. It's a means to survive long enough to do their job, not a sentence that there job is to sponge damage. Mundo doesn't want to get focused, he wants to survive through the ordeal of sitting on top of his enemies while he's killing them.

Shen actually does want to get focused and take hits for his allies, as that's the main long-term contribution Shen brings once his QWER goes on cooldown.

You make a very good point... hmm. I personally never tried to level his AA steroid because it always seemed kind of useless compared to 25% current health range damage or an AOE, but I don't know, I'll check it out.

And, yeah, I guess fighters are mainly DPS. I just always thought of Mundo as a tank, I mean, both his ult and his passive scale off of health, plus his Q is flat %currenthealth damage. Always thought of Garen as a tank too because of his passive and W, but you do make a good point.

"a little bit of damage"? He deals much more damage than Shen while building full tank, if Shen wants damage he has to actually buy a damage item.

Eh, its mostly single target though. I mean, his AOE is good but it really isn't that great, his main ability is his Q and single target just doesn't seem that good. Like, maybe I'm just over thinking it, which I may very well be, but it just seems like a meat shield plus 25% current health, minus magic resists is just a little eh. Maybe its just me though.

Yes it is, it lets him push, you know, that thing Shen takes ages to do? You're also forgetting it gives him tenacity as well. Not all tanks are threats through CC, Shen doesn't really peel well compared to other tanks, he's a threat because he can pop into a fight from anywhere on the map. Mundo is a threat because if ignored he will do a lot of damage. If you want to play tanks that are threats through CC then play champions like Nautilus.

try maxing E first, it may seem dumb but you won't think its useless when you hit as hard as draven with your auto attacks at level 3
