How do you even play Katarina now?

Honestly, I don't get it. I know Riot wanted her to be more difficult to play than her previous smash-your-head-against-the-keyboard-type stuff but man, they made her way too tricky.

I loved old Kat because she was like that, and way more simple to play. Now I can barely got off any burst, and just about everyone counters her with this buttload of CC meta. On top of her health nerf last season its even harder to stay alive.

To give you an example: I chose a mid lane ranked game today, hoping to get my Lux and try to win the game to get the mission of winning a game with ignite done. I get last pick to choose in champ select.

My jungler- who was third pick, LOCKS IN KATARINA, then when I complain he just says "oops" and "can u play kat?" and I went off on him. This is the first time ever someone has chosen a champ for me when 1) I didn't ask, 2) we aren't duos, 3)we didn't even ask to switch pick roles. He did it without even talking to me, which I think he did it just to screw me over, and asked if I had rammus to switch.

Grudgingly I switched with him, and got counter picked to hell. Not only could I not do anything because I can't play new Kat well, Ziggs on the enemy team completely bullied me in lane and I couldn't do anything because he got fed, and my team couldn't peel for me to get a successful ult off in a team fight.

We lost of course.

How do you even play her? Unlike Zed, Yas, and others, she has no escape tools unless she gets a reset, and she has no survivability either. One CC and she's basically dead.

Please, give me some help and tips here. I would love to get to know how to play her but man in this meta it clearly is not suited for her.

From what I know, Kat's main damage output comes from the daggers you drop on the ground (besides her ultimate of course). They reworked Kat so that she won't be that champion who has limited counterplay and has lower skill than other champions. As stated, the daggers on the ground deals most of her damage, but they are visible to the enemy, allowing counterplay against her.

Her W can be used differently in certain situations, especially since using the dagger will lower your E cooldown by a lot. You can use it for the move speed. You can use it to E back where you came from after doing your combo (Q->W->E to Q dagger->E to W dagger->), use it to reposition yourself, etc. There are quite a few things you can do with your W dagger. If you are able to get multiple kills, you can potentially have more than 1 Q and W daggers on the battlefield, allowing you to blink all around and wreck the enemy team.

Or you can still use the usual combo that old Kat players used: Q->E->W->R. Just remember that your Q dagger lands 350 units away from the first target the dagger bounced on and that you can still pick up your daggers while ulting if you are standing on top of one.

However, don't take my word for all this. I'm not a Kat main and haven't played her in a month or so.

Just don't move when you press r, unless you WANT to cancel it.
