Anyone else lagging and "attempting to reconnect" even with your internet fine?

MissMikasa··41 votes·9,008 views

I have had a few games in a row now where my ping is fine, but my game is freezing, and "attempting to reconnect" throughout my whole game. At first it was a guy I had played earlier saying he was "ddosing me," but the last few games he hasn't, and it's been acting the same. I ended all the apps I was working on, ran CCleaner, still didn't help. I disconnected and had to restart my client three times in my last game as Kayle, and didn't even get back in time as the enemy surrendered before I loaded in. It froze many times especially when I was in a team fight, and my ping was fine through out, only once during a freeze did it go up to 500 but otherwise it stayed low, but I kept freezing. Has anyone else had this problem today?

EDIT: I ran the repair on League and that has seemed to fix things for now. Who knows it might mess up again.

If you can, go into your router/modem and change the data transfer rate from the stand 217 Mbps to 450/300 Mbps this should help reduce the lag issue. Also check to see if anyone besides you is on the internet at the same time and check if they are downloading/streaming/video communications. If you have a dual band router check to see if your computer is able to access the 5Ghz connection since it will have less interference (has less range than the standard though) than the standard 2.4Ghz connection everyone use's. If you are not sure which frequency your computer takes for internet connection then go to the control panel and open the device manager, go to the network adapters and look for your Wireless Network Adapter. Once you find it it should have letters after the number 802.11, if it says 802.11ac then your computer has the ability to use that 5Ghz connection, if it has 802.11 b/g/n then your computer's wireless adapter can only operate on the 2.4Ghz connection. The reason why packet loss occur's is because that most internet connections and cordless phone's use a 2.4Ghz (there are some companies that offer cordless phones on a 1.9Ghz frequency) radio frequency to communicate between their respective cell towers when transferring data whether it be sound or Mb of information. Now tell me that Riot Games gave you the same explanation as I did as to why you guys might be experiencing disruption while you play the game.

I'm on my dorm internet so I can't do any of that.

you can still check the wireless adapter that your computer has and also more than likely someone has setup a router in your dorm building, so if possible try to get their password to it. When I was at college I was the guy who setup everyone's router's with unique passwords to each of them inside our building of 80 students both male and female. The only thing is that I doubt anyone in your dorm has a dual band router since they usually cost an excess of $100+ for the really good mid-tier router's

Guys also remember to first run a hardware check to make sure it isn't your graphics processor. But yeah, just ran a test and everything's working fine. Thanks for the tips, will definitely help in solving this issue.

how do you test your graphics card?

Erm, you can't just turn up the data transfer rate, that's dependent on what you are paying for with your internet.

Never once in my time with an Arris, linksys, AT&T or asus router have I ever seen an option like this either.

What Is Smite1 votes

Well I am using a Netgear R6300v2 1750 Mbps router and I do have the option to adjust transfer rates through the router

Silents4291 votes

Why would this option even exist, and not on commonly used routers?

I think it'd be unlikely this would cause anyone problems in the first place, regarding ping.

What Is Smite1 votes

it's literally what i did and it actually fixed my issue, the majority of tech today use's a 2.4Ghz frequency so there is a bunch of interference in the air when you play with a wireless connection

Silents4291 votes

The most you can do for 2.4ghz connections is change the control channel. Hard pressed to say majority of tech though, damn near every smart phone and new laptop support it, since the last few years now.

What Is Smite1 votes

Here is a picture to show you what I mean by changeable transfer rates, I can change the channel but I can also change the transfer rate (or what I assume is) which would be the mode.

Silents4292 votes

Oh those, It is not recommended to change that, you lose signal strength the higher it is, the default normally being 150.

The interference is increased the higher it is and more likely to cause issues from surrounding networks, you really aren't going to get a gain increasing this option unless you were right next to the router.

And in a field away from others with wireless.

Even still you are limited by what your paying for on your internet as well as your hardware limitations on your computer. With wireless cards that support N for example the highest they support is 150mbps (few support 300)

There's a reason it's not a common option in other routers, it generally does more harm then any good.

What Is Smite1 votes

on the contrary, my signal strength has been better than what the default was on the router (217mbps) ever since I changed it to the 450mbps. In essence i went from 4 bars to 5 bars and that's in my room on the 2nd story (also where my parent's room is in the house) even though the router is about 30+ ft away from my laptop

Silents4291 votes

Well this is information from Netgears support so I doubt that is what did it.

What Is Smite1 votes

right they have truth in what they say but also there is the idea of theory vs actuality in the sense that not everything is what it's said to be and sometimes the only way to test is to do it yourself, granted you have the knowledge to know what you are doing.

Silents4291 votes

Um, are you trying to imply the people that made the router don't know what the features they added does?

I mean even that aside this is basic networking knowledge, if your wireless card can't handle that high of a transfer rate it won't see a benefit, it's physically incapable of it.

As for signal degradation, not really a theory the higher it goes the more it interferes with neighborhoods other wireless signals causing the signal to be weaker.

I know you want to base this off of personal experience but more then likely you only now paid attention to the signal or something else had changed to make it appear like it got better.

But the only way you'd improve signal is lowering the rate, and that's just how it works.

What Is Smite1 votes

I'm not trying to imply that Netgear doesn't know the features of their router's, what I meant to say (since it seemed I wasn't clear) was that sometimes it's just better to try and fix ping/latency issues through the devices you are able to access before contacting your ISP to try to find the issue of the lag in a game. And you're right, I am trying to base it off of personal experience because that's the kind of person I am, some people learn through text and theory while others learn through hands-on and experience

For the past two days this has been killing me, it's starting to get a bit better but it's still painful to sit though, im terrified to go into ranked because of it.

SunriseSkaterKid3 votes

Yes, its killing me. Right when I join a game i get "Attempting to Reconnect" for about 30 seconds. After that it runs smoothly until team fight start. Which is the worst thing to happen during a Team fight. Like last game i was on thresh and it was all fine but literally every time i was about to engage or flash/flay/box my screen would freeze and i would just be dead. Its getting really annoying.

Cant wait for a Rioter to answer this thread and just say "Get a new computer" or some stupid unhelpful thing like that.

I've had that issue before and it was due to my routers wifi connection. Sometimes everything would desync and I wouldnt see any animations/effects. I ran pingtest and it confirmed it, as I had a lot of jitter in my connection.

MissMikasa1 votes

Well I'm on my dorm internet and it has been fine the past few weeks. I would alt tab and look and it was fine while I was freezing up. So I do not know why it is happening to me right now.

Powahcore1 votes

I've been having this problem quite a bit lately but especially today. I've played three games today, and two of them have had this issue. Tired of getting a 20 minute wait time because of it.

KingKong23501 votes

Can people really DDoS attack you in this game? That might explain what happened to me a few days ago

Zeurth1 votes

No. only if you give them your IP or call them on Skype. Use Curse voice for calling players. Less resources and doesn't give out your IP.

MissMikasa1 votes

Yea a guy I was talking to on Skype did it to me, he fessed up after the game that we lost. We would've won if he hadn't done that because I was the sup and could've made plays. Then the next few games after, it was still freezing and he was swearing he wasn't doing it. It's only better now that I logged out of league, than opened the launch screen up and ran the repair.

Zombiephil1 votes

This really pisses me off. The worst part is, for the past 2-3 days, the loading screen in games will say 107 ping or something decent, and as soon as we get into the game it goes up to 300-500 ping.

CrackVanAB1 votes

Trying also to play, my friend gets same issue but resolves it by pressing retry 2 times then cancel and orange reconnect button h e connects 2 minutes in, and doesn't work for me, he tries with my account and it doesn't work only custom, this is not some kind of DNS, Ip, Isp bullshit problem its the LoL server problem where certain accounts get flags for some bullshit and need to be reset, fix riot or hire a new network personal, because they suck, there is lot of student people in Europe who needs a job. Or add like a unstuck command from your homepage like in all MMORPG.

Edit: Tested all Connection issue guides nuthin help and custom is the only game mode that works.

I was yesterday, today's been fine though.

Same thing with me. Keep hitting 3000 ping.

Spirit Shard1 votes

Been getting skill use and slight click delays in the shop since yesterday. Just disconnected from a ranked game and couldn't connect to league for 15 full minutes for some unknown reason, even after restarting 10 times. Servers are messed -.-

3TWarrior1 votes

I have this issue all the time but I am fairly sure it is just riot's servers

Shipwright1 votes

since yesterday every time i start my match after the loading screen it will freeze and i can't see any buttons to press on the screen or click anything e.g options or the shop or even move, i have to restart my computer then when i load it back up i might connect in 10 into the game and also i have countless bans now and feel like giving up anyone know of this problem and how to fix it at all? Also i have 20-25 ping and 55-60 fps while running the game

Feathermane1 votes

Best thing about "attempting to reconnect"? It never reconnects, you have to leave the game through two needless timewasting warnings and restart the client.

Irelia Bot1 votes

Yeah it is happening and it is why I have gone back to Dotaland

Gingivitus1 votes

Yeah its super cool when that happens to you and the client crashes or something lags you out when your internet is just fine, and you get a leaver buster for it, then you have to read forums in your additional 10 minute wait for the game Braum
