PSA: Zyra and Brand are NOT supports

So stop calling them as if they are one.

They both are mid lane mages first. People just take them bot because Riot is enforcing such a damage heavy meta right now and not the protective utility side which is actually what a support does.

Zyra was pushed bot by Riot, much to her fans protests. (Looking at you, Riot! Shame on you!)

And if we want to get more technical, same goes for Karma and Morgana.

So stop calling them supports. They are mid lane mages that are just taken bot for a kill lane, nothing more.

Support the position is different from Support the character archetype

That's why they call the support classes things like Enchanter, Vanguard, Warden, etc...

In theory any character can be taken to the support position, so in some metagames there are characters that don't play a supportive role in terms of character design, but fit in the support position really well. So it is totally valid and correct to call such a character a support if that's their strongest position currently.

I'm not defending Riot's continued failure to make Brand and Zyra good mid laners though.

PSA: roles are a social construct. What is the complaint here, exactly? That other people aren't playing the champions you want them to play, where you want them to play?

There is a solution to that: premades. Otherwise, stop complaining and live with the fact that the other four people on your team are going to play however they want to play.

The problem is Riot Game Developers are nerfing them and taking away things from these champions to force them into the support role. Hold Developers responsible for their work ethic. Karma was a mage and classified as a mage for a very long time. Several Developers including Morello said she was more successful and fun to play as a Mage in mid and top lane. Here we are and Developers like Meddler and Reav3s continue to be the forefront of forcing champions to be something they are not, because they are removing identities and abilities and placing them on new champions. These Developers DO NOT CARE.

Lux, Morgana, Mal, Karma and so many others are Mages first, but they've all ended up in Support more often these days due to nerfs and reworks just kind of forcing them there. So, blame Riot, not the people calling them what they call them.

Brand yes but unfortunately Zyra is because Riot pushed her there. I used to main Zyra since S3 but I had to drop her mid because of all the nerfs she just doesn't work there anymore. She beats absolutely no one.

i can agree on the first part even though i play mage supports i know im not supporting in that lane, im the dmg not the adc, but karma and morg actually are supports just for the fact they actually do focus on keeping the adc alive with peel and their shields where as brand or zyra i could give less of a shit about my ad if i can get a double off of it because i can just be the carry anyway

riot instantly nerfs it

many reject midlaners come bot

riot sees no issue with a "support" throwing out as much damage as the rest of the team if not more
