ADC's if the enemy team has 3 tanks dont go lethality
I dont care if all the pros use lethality builds on Varus/Jhin. You do no damage to 3/5 of the other team. Thats just asking to lose

For that matter, if you see the enemy pick 3 tanks before you choose your ADC, don't play Jhin.
but if they pick 4 go right on and pick jhin
But what if they pick 5?
Don't pick Jhin
but what if they pick 4, you pick Jhin, and they pick another tank?
Have a mental breakdown (but don't tell your team) and then unplug the internet. When the game ends add your team mates and message them that your cat walked over the wire connecting your router to a plug and that you're sorry. Immediately remove them and pretend like nothing happened
valid plan.
Don't play ADC* lol. Cuz you know there is no way your Master Yi jg, Teemo top, and Sona support are going to be able to keep them off of you.
No matter what you do as that Jhin, you will be useless against three tank.
The real issue there is varus/jhin into tanks, not lethality. Stacking lethality and combining it with a last whisper item is just fine against tanks.
Varus is actually quite good against tanks if you go for an actual crit build. Your autos hurt and you do have a realistic way of getting your w off since you don't need your abilities to hit for poke
You can say that, but chances are you'll just get engaged on immediately and die instantaneously. The way you describe him, he's just auto attacking and proccing w; without magic pen, that w is pretty worthless dps against a tank. So, no, he's not good against tanks when you compare that build to pretty much any other ADC, who is more safe and does exactly the same damage with such a build.

Like every squishy carry?

Ashe, Varus, Twitch, Sivir, Jinx, Kogmaw. All imobiles who can build crit and put our honestly pretty similar damage to tanks and squishies alike. They all have different strengths for taking down tanky targets. Just because Varus has a 15% max hp magic damage that gets absorbed (we'll say 150 MR for a standard tank build) he still gets off about 6% of an enemy tanks health twice with 1 e and 1 q. And yes, I think it is safe to say that in an auto attack based build, you auto attack.
Engaged on and die instantaneously - Because they're immobile and amongst the squishiest ADCs, compared to Lucian, Graves, Ezreal, Vayne etc. while few people build team comps around them to protect them like KogMaw and Twitch.
You're missing my point. If you build Varus purely for autoattacking, you're not nearly as effective as all of the other examples you mentioned. Varus gets, on his autos: 40% attack speed after a kill, and 5% maxhealth magic at best. MEANWHILE, Ashe gets onhit slows and 40% attack speed and 25% extra damage, Twitch gets 50% attack speed and AoE hits, Sivir gets 60% bonus attack speed and AoE hits as well as having movement speed, Jinx gets more range and AoE hits, and even KogMaw even gets more % magic damage onhit without needing to 'proc' it and more range.
My original point was don't pick Varus into tanks. Your point is "just build a lot of damage". I say your point is moot because, like I just said, all other examples do more damage via "an auto attack based build" and are probably safer, so why pick Varus? Why not just pick any ranged character at all, since it's just autos? What makes Varus good at taking on tanks with that build compared to anyone else?
Crit build? What are you a pleb?
is what real men do.

WRONG.
AP man.
Whatchu chugging to think manamine on-hit is better.
Actually hardcore manics go AP varus on hit. Real psychos go AP mage.

It's fun having having just under 700 AP and watching the 3 enemy tanks lose > 60% of their maximum health in a couple of seconds as burst mage Varus.
It's 100% more fun when they don't have tanks either. Example see below.
- I see no problem
I'm kidding kidding, yes please follow this guys advice, you're the dps, not the assassin, please make sure you can deal with tanks or else tanks will rolf face you and your team
Isn't Jhin quite awful against tanks to begin with? His attackspeed is simply too slow to get enough damage in between their barriers and damage reduction abilities.
And varus.......should actually go something like
start against tanks. That is mana and cdr for abilities, attackspeed to use his W well and enhanced autos against tanks.
Doesn't that sorta say something though? Armor pen is meant to cut through armor, so it's a counter to those who build armor. If it has zero effect on tanks yet deals super damage to squishies who already pop, why is this even a stat? It feels like it creates issues with cheese/no counterplay without offering its intended use against people with more than 50 armor.
is the "counter to those who build armor", not lethality. Lethality is utilized best on those who DON'T build armor, which is why it helps with popping squishies.
I do agree that it feels weird having it though.

Flat armour penetration, or lethality, is not a counter to people stacking armour and health. It's a counter to squishies who built no or little armour, since 50 flat pen will barely dent a tank's late game armour amount, but that will take out over half of a squishy's health.
That seems like weird/bad design. I'unno. Thanks for clarifying that though
Well it IS made to be the Assassin stat.

That's why Flat Armor pen (which is better against squishies) was renamed to Lethality. It was done so in part for clarity.
pick LDR and your good.
Honestly, I don't think a lethality build is a bad idea against a team of tanks, assuming that the ADC that is building it is also building a black cleaver and isn't named jhin, then I would think that a lethality build would be roughly on par with a crit build (once again, assuming that the adc in question is also building a black cleaver or perhaps a last whisper item).
Math doesn't check out, lethality, even when paired with a last whisper just isn't enough against tanks. You're basically dealing okay-ish amounts of base damage with good penetration.
With a crit build and a last whisper you're dealing ungodly amounts of base damage with good penetration, since against a tank lethality is barely a bit more penetration than what last whisper is already offering.
