[Question] Are you allowed to take other Summoner Spells?

BLIGHTBRINGER··6 votes·10,107 views

For example, if I find myself playing Bot. I sometimes don't want to take summoner 7 because it doesn't always feel useful and other options can be better.

Is it punishable in any way to take something unusual? (I know this can sound like a bit of a dumb question lol)

It's not punishable, but it's often not optimal.

The marksman in the bot lane generally wants a defensive summoner spell because of how important it is for them not to die early on. Heal is good because you are in a duo lane, and you can use it to not only save yourself, but your support. The heal is pretty substantial, and the speed boost can help you get out of range of threats.

That said, if you're really worried about dying (and don't care about your support not-dying), the enemy has Ignite, and/or your support already took Heal, it's totally fine to take Barrier.

Other options are generally not as good simply because you need that consistent defensive option. Cleanse is highly situational, and should only be taken bot lane if you're going against double CC (e.g., Jhin + Lux). Offensive options like Ignite and Exhaust are really risky, since you need to get close to the target without a defensive summoner, but they can pay off if you're very confident. Teleport isn't as useful because you're generally not going to be roaming as an ADC until the mid-late game. You need to stay bot for dragon control. Before 15 min, Teleport would be more insurance for when you die so you won't miss too much CS, but it would be better to not die in the first place.

Heal is the best in almost every situation as a marksman. It's very useful, even if you don't think it is.

Cleanse is also viable if they only have a single source of cc, but they are also running ignite and someone on their team has a long range pick tool like Sej Ult.

Since Cleanse removes ignite it can be very good versus even low cc bot lane matchups. For example I might take cleanse into Varus + Ignite Taric simply because Varus ult is a good pick tool and his E reduces the effectiveness of heal. Especially if their team has a Sej, Elise, or Lissandra who can also either pick you off or 100-0 you through CC as the game progresses. Cleanse is also the best summoner vs Ignite, as Heal gets reduced and Barrier has a shorter duration.

cleanse is a anti veigar summoner spell if your a rusher type champ namely sylas if he rings you u walk through stun point wait till he almost (hit cleanse and e into him.) Ws you then you ram the junk out of him with the rest of your weaves/skillset steals ult if he flashes away then ult him if hes low enough. btw i run dark harvest on him so i know the threshold 40% so i can W (gut punch) him.

Of course. You are allowed to take any summoner spells you want (but please don't take Smite). Feel free to experiment.

Heal is useful 90% of the time, so I would recommend always taking it even if there is no real penalty for not taking it. It's all about opportunity cost.

The other spells that would be good on ADC are Barrier (especially if your support takes Heal, which I often do), Teleport, or very situational choice of Cleanse against high CC.

As an ADC you're performing some of the most actions per second, with auto attacking, kiting, and managing CS, so it's best to have a spell you can just press and forget like Heal, or Barrier. Taking a spell like Ignite or Exhaust is another spell you have to target and use, and when you're at a few items these things become more of a hassle than it's worth because you're already dealing enough damage to kill most things easily without them.

when in doubt, Unsealed Spellbook.

Some of the different SS ADC's take are Teleport, barrier, or cleanse. It all really depends on your playstyle, your support, and the opossing team's compisition. Some people take TP so they can just shove lane out constantly and focus more on farm and not so much fighting. Then they recall and teleport back to lane. During the Ardent sensor support meta a lot of supports like janna, soraka, and nami took heal and the ADC took barrier. Sometimes I still see barrier bot if a soraka is the support. Cleanse Can be decent if you are up against a team with a lot of cc. Morgana, lux, and lissandra have a ton of hard cc and cleanse is a much better option than qss. Id rather spend 1300 on a bf sword instead of the qss.

Taking different summoner spells is punishable depending on which one is taken. No heal bot means you have a lower POTENTIAL health total. You are open to getting all in'ed by your opponent and don't have the option to heal out of lethal range. Barrier Is sometimes better in that the shield adds more to your heal total than heal does, and it also isn't negated by grievous wounds like heal is.

Heal is far and away meta, so it's pretty expected for you to take it. But if you don't want to, try asking your support if they don't mind taking Heal.

as long as you are playing your role you are fine if you take non meta summoners/picks/builds (tho you might be punished for trolling if you say build ap on someone without AP scaling)

If you are playing marksmen you always want something defensive like heal. But if you have a soraka or something like that on your team you can sometimes go Barrier.

I take smite ignite every time I jg. People scream why?????, you're trolling!!!!, you're "insert offensive slang for interlectually challenged".

3 minuts in.... "first blood" in river as naut vs lee sin. (A match up tanks generally auto lose)

They don't sook for the rest of the game after that.

Give it a go. It rocks

Heal was pretty much redesigned to be perfect for bot lane when they increased the heal but made it for 2 targets (instead of full AoE), lowered the cooldown and made it give a movement speed boost. I hate when they tailor champs/items/spells for specific roles, but now not having heal at bot is just a disadvantage.

This thread is why summoner spells either need cleaned up (some removed) or spell bans added. There could be a whole lot of different kinds of gameplay if it wasn't flash and the other couple staples constantly

It's just pointless to take heal when almost 3 people every game are running with Ignite making your Heal only 60% efficient.

You should be able to pick any summoners and be able to play any champ any role. My favouriteNunu summoner 6 summoner 1 mid

Bot with summoner 21 and supp with summoner 7 isn't uncommon with a more trade-heavy duo composition, and some champions just do well with otherwise odd combinations like Anivia or Ryze with summoner 21 summoner 12 to get an early item 3070 and have constant lane presence.

UlyssesISR1 votes

That really depends on your champion and lane. Ideally you want to use summoner spells that make up for whatever your champion lacks.

For me because I main Sion Currently. summoner 4 and summoner 12 are my go-to's because he has virtually no mobilty outside of his ultimate. Yes I can use summoner 7/summoner 21 but it's not as needed because of a combination of max health gain from soul furnace passive+runes + potions. So using things that give mobility helps out much more in my case.

But if you want to do some wacky combo go for it. Yes you can use summoner 11 if your not a jungler. But just be aware that means you have one less option when you are in lane. It's why it's not recommended because the benefit doesn't outweigh the cons.

There's no written rule saying an ADC must take heal.

I've run cleanse before on an ADC vs a hard CC lane and it's worked.
