So what the h#!! with this ranking?

So I've come to the conclusion that it must be DRASTICALLY harder to get an S rank as a support. I recently had a game as Morgana where I went 0/1/8 as support, the game ended at 20min, and I got like an A-. Then I literally just finished a game as blitzcrank where I went 1/1/12, again ending it right at 20min. I still only got an A rank. I have had many games like this, where I perform very well, but can not get an S rank. But then I'll have a random game where I KNOW that I under-performed, and I'll get an S rank, but that's usually when I play mid. So what the heck is with this ranking system....It seems to make no sense, and be extremely tilted against supports.

And I know that it takes into account other things, like wards placed, gold per minute, CS, damage dealt to champions, and a few other factors, but still, it seems WAY harder to get an S rank as support, and the few people I've spoken to have said they noticed it too. What do you all think? Is it actually harder to get S as a support?

P.s. this may be in the wrong section, was not sure which area this would fall under.

Had to be on a smurf, because your last game on the account you're posting on is 15 days ago. Without seeing match history on both games, can't comment on where you went wrong specifically.

That said, i'll go for the generic advice. One, if either of those games being that short ended with the enemy surrendering, you will likely not get a S-, S, or S+. If those were games played to conclusion, the following would be necessary: That you participated in the majority of team kills, had around 20+ cs, warded as much as possible, ideally a ward per minute of gameplay. At 20, you should be in the double digits at the very least, and most definitely more than your team and enemy support. You also want to be sweeping constantly and clearing pinks.

As to answer your question, no, getting S on support is easier than other roles. Those that you've talked to might just struggle as you are, but it really isn't complicated if you know the goals.

yeah it was on a smurf, so I just did a game on my main account(this one) and I went 0/1/19 as thresh. 27 wards placed in a like 32 minute game, enemy fizz was like 4/0 by 8 minutes, and I caught him mulitple times allowing us to kill him, and get back. Was involved in taking turrets, and inhibs, had just over 40cs(which is normal for support since i had targons) And I STILL only got an A rank. HOW THE HELL DO YOU GET AN A RANK WITH ALMOST A 20 KDA?!?!

I can see the frustration. I'm looking at the game now. Good amount of wards. Remember to include your pinks when you review your games. I'm going to assume at least 2 of the pinks got placed with one still in your inventory at the end of the game. That's almost 30, which is great.

Your cs looks good, your team participation is over half. Now remember that you are judged against other Thresh players in that role. The only thing I can think of regarding improvement is sadly something they drill into our heads about not doing: Getting a few kills. Taking a quick glance at others who have gotten S+ on Thresh, they seem to have a few kills. If not that, then you were shy a bit more on assists.

I typically play healer/mage supports, so kills come a bit easier and the comparisons with lower expectations. Thresh is a naturally aggressive support. I think you should be proud of your performance. You are definitely on the right track. Keep going with how you are, and the perfect storm will come with the right team, the right enemy team, and you making amazing plays.

I know that's not an easy solution to the problem. I wish I could give you one. Good luck out there.

I haven't had much trouble getting an S on support, but I think it depends on the champ. I haven't played the engage champs much due to lack of trust in my ADC. You mentioned that you played these on a smurf so I can't really comment but I wonder if some of it is due to you not taking Relic Shield on Thresh. With that you'd get more CS so maybe that plays into it.

I feel like a lot of getting an S on support is warding well, clearing wards, making picks, keeping your team alive, and getting objectives, which is basically everything a support is supposed to do....

Honestly, I don't really know what to say. I played Lulu for weeks before finally getting and S with her, then I played Soraka once and got an S+...

Unrelated, but I had a game as Miss Fortune where I didn't load in until 18 minutes into the game. I ended up going 5/1/15 and got an S-. I had a game before as MF where I was 20/4/10 and got an A+. So, I think some of their ranking system depends on factors outside of just performance.

I did take that item on thresh. On the account I'm posting from (Apex Citavista) go look as my last played game, because I played one on it just to see if I could get S rank(Keep in mind, yeah I've been away for a few months, but I was previously plat as a support main)

If you're a plat support, I don't think I can offer much advice on improving except maybe try to clear more wards, place more pinks, or place wards where the enemy is likely to walk over (since I think that counts). Other than that, you probably know more about the game than I do as to what is important.

I think some of it is just the fact you are playing Thresh a lot. He's an engage so it's expected that he will have a certain amount of damage due to that nature. Soraka, on the other hand, normally isn't dealing damage, so me harassing and zoning the enemy is worth more since most other players just stand back and heal. It may just be as simple as that.

I just did a quick stat check and you seem to be better than the gold/plat average in multiple categories, so apparently you just need to be a slight bit better (maybe steal a kill or two) and you should be fine. That or find a carry who you can get ridiculously fed and stick to them like glue for all those assists. http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/stats/thresh

Honestly, I'd kill to have a support like you. Normally I'm the ADC running around lane trying to CS and ward while my support sits in the bush and either goes ridiculously hard or does nothing until the enemy attacks.
