Champion Mastery

Does anyone know if mastery for a champion resets when they receive a VGU or a Full Relaunch? Right now, I'm playing , partly due to him being one of my favorites and he's extremely fun to play. I've played him since season 3, and I'm curious when he gets his full relaunch, will it reset? I'm mastery 5 with him.
