Noobs on onslaught why?

ShadWooo··17 votes·8,658 views

Just why everytime I tried go onslaught with randoms I end up with ppls with 3 or even 2 augments and using stupid augments and dying to just those rotating beams all the time?

Hell I was farming like mad man to have all augments and slots so I can go into this mode and won't be a nuisance, but here I come and I see ppls who just finished intro....

Why do you feel the need to play the highest diff when you are not ready yet? Or why do you think you are ready to go onslaugh once you finish intro?

Basically. Same as people raging in URF/OFA. If you want to tryhard - play ranked. The rest of us came to have fun; sometimes trying new/stupid things and feeding is how we have fun. It's not a serious game mode where every win gives you mountains of free RP, DUH. [slayer-jinx-unamused]

ShadWooo5 votes

This is not comparable with URF and OFA. This mode has 5 difficulties one of which is hardcode and meant to tryhard. If you won't you will lose usually in first map and you are only wasting time of other players. If you want to have fun you have 4 other difficulties to do it. I just don't get it why you must go have fun into onslaught where is no chance for you to win with this attitude.

Auxion3 votes

The mode is not meant to be tryharding. Its just for fun, i got close to killing kayn with low augments people and i still had fun. respect people

TheUrbanKitsune5 votes

I won my first game of Onslaught as Jinx where the 'tryhards' in champ select were telling me to play Sona because our team comp was 2 Yasuos + 2 Malphites and "Jinx is garbage in this mode". Not like I got carried, either. Everyone pulled their weight, and they even tried to invite me for another round after being extremely rude.

I played Jinx because she's the most fun imo out of the available champs. Mashing buttons and being the designated heal-bot isn't fun for me.

You don't have to sacrfice fun to win. The gamemode is FOR fun. Have fun with it. The augments are wacky and goofy and make weird things viable like utility/support Yasuo or AP Jinx. It's not serious at all.

If you want to tryhard, get a group of 4 other people together and coordinate a strategy to win. But don't blame randoms who are newer or just trying to have a good time.

UnboundHades1 votes

thats not the problem that hes bringing up, if you have 4-5 augments on a jinx then you will be 500x more useful than a yasuo with 2 augments because thats how the mode is designed to work

Haemonculus1 votes

I almost won with a Jinx who went with her Ult augments and full AP. That trail of fire was doing so much damage, it was insane.

As well, I find that Ziggs with just his Shorter + Bounce augments and an on-hit build does insane amounts of damage that you can get away with just using those two augments and nothing else. Though, Distribution does help a lot, I don't think it's too necessary.

you cant go from intro to onslaught

I think you can, premades exist.

Anidan2 votes

Hell, I didn't even do intro. I joined my brother and we went into Crewmember immediately. Luckily, Crewmember doesn't require much out of you but still. You can easily go from Intro to Onslaught if you're with someone who has Onslaught unlocked and doesn't care what other people think about their party member's 0 freaking augments.

ShadWooo1 votes

If you are in premade group you can bypass this. Though it was intented overstatement from me. I've seen lvl 6 sona in onslaught who probably didn't know how to equip augments and also few lvl 8s (which means they completed 4 games in total so far) and every other player is lvl 9.

BlinkZZ1824 votes

Glassminded people playing onslaught without a full premade team, why?

ShadWooo1 votes

My friends weren't online when I wanted to play it. Tried to recruit some players from random parties but it proved to be impossible.

I get your argument that you play this for fun, but I wonder how many of these lvl 8/9 players in onslaught won already. I just assumed that everyone will have the same understandment and they will farm their 4th and 5th augments on captain or lower. But it seems I want too much.

Auxion2 votes

Well u just said u want too much, thats true

GreenKnight4 votes

Oh no, bronze and silver players are breaking your tryhard attempts?

Here's a tip: gather a few friends if all you want to do is win. I don't play this mode to beat it and go to rankeds. I want to have some fun for once in this season, and this event has given me a fine opportunity to play something different so i will play it how i want.

Sorry for rant, but this sort of high and mighty attittude is getting on my nerves recently.

ShadWooo1 votes

If thats true why the hell you go into onslaught? You can have your fun on captain or even intro can't you?

Auxion3 votes

Because we are human beings, we can do whatever we want. Don't take this gamemode TOO seriously. U have ranked for tryharding

Chembaron Yamada2 votes

There is the fact there that there is a free skin as a reward for this game mode, tho. If Riot doesn't want people to try hard in that mode, they shouldn't give skins for free tied to a mission for it.

NepgearDesu4 votes

Because Onslaught has way more monsters, with more HP, more mayhem, etc. It's just more fun than other difficulty settings. Why the hell would e.g. I go anywhere other than in Onslaught?

Leto GT3 votes

Welcome to the MMO-like experience based matchamking. Ppl come to raid without learning strats, builds and rotations. x)... You need to find a good group.

0DESTROYERZ02 votes

this is so true lmao dont get why there are downvotes

Anidan2 votes

It is absolutely true. Some of the guys with 1-2 augments in Onslaught remind me of the Hunter I saw in LFR on WoW who only Auto Attacked. No abilities whatsoever, just a man, his gun, and his pet. I'm guessing he was either drunk, high, or just wanted to see if he could get away with it. He was kicked after the first boss. We killed it, but he was kicked almost immediately.

ExpStealer3 votes

Because they're trying to have fun even if they lose and die all the time? [zombie-brand-mindblown]

King of Demons2 votes

Yeah, same problem. Each time I check they are Bronze or Silver and have no idea what they are doing. It's a shame. I don't even have enough friends that play league anymore because they all quit to get a full premade group without problems.

King of Demons2 votes

I'll just accept that the large majority of the playerbase and forum goers are the exact type of person I'd never enjoy playing a competitive game (mode) with.

Bye bye, hope you at least aspire to do something in real life if "having fun" means being bad to you <3

DamSonWhUFndThis1 votes

after intro you need to finish 4 harder difficulties before onslaught witch almost everyone gets through but oneslaught is really hard compared to it's previous one and thats what they dont know - also they are looking how hard the gamemode is or they think they can beat it because me personaly I have beaten all the gamemodes under 45 min and I got to kayn's third stage where it was really hard and I failed - I got this far with only 2 augment slots

Sugarlicious1 votes

I know your pain, I feel the same in captain mode, idiots coming in with 1-2 augments not knowing how to flash in front of rays. I have 6 good augments, silver but not stupid, so add me if you wanna have one less noob in the group.

SirGank1 votes

It's almost like they've been playing this mode for years.

It honestly doesn't take much to get to onslaught. If like 2 people were competent in their previous games, then they could coax through. That said, I got to onslaught but I personally won't touch it till I got a solid build and plan. I also would rather avoid doing it with pugs, but thats all probably due to the mmo'er in me

WoodenCreature1 votes

Getting to onslaught difficulty shouldn't be this easy tbh u can go at it with just 2 augument slots making random parties pointless. Now im forced to use discord forums to do my missions why is riot assuming we all have friends to play with? Fk this.

Auxion3 votes

Find some friends on the forums in recruitment.

Once you practice a lot or you are just good with that champ yes its doable but you also need the right augments. What I encounter is lvl 8 (means they played 4 games so far) and lvl 9 players who has bad augments, don't know what to do and just loses and rage in chat after we die because of them.

Elucidarious1 votes

Testify, I kind of feel the same every time I see people playing ziggs or jinx on Onslaught even if they ARE a higher level. The safety and dps output of having to kite so hard just makes them seem like less ideal picks than yas and malph who Ive yet to get under 550k dmg in any given Captain round. With the lifesteal nerf in this most so harsh it's just brutal. Im still waiting for the 5 ziggs/sona onslaught completion videos to hit youtube X)

NepgearDesu2 votes

I seem to have overheard your badmouthing Ziggs. Have you tried any funny build?

https://i.imgur.com/S0KLo7W.jpg

Onslaught difficulty, with item 3020 item 3115 item 3124 item 3089 item 3100 and Bounce, Shorter, Brink, Distributor, Mine healing as augments, for maximum Short fuse damage and availability. It would seem that Short fuse is counted as a single-target spell on each bounce, and when you deal over 5,000 per second you don't have a problem with healing thanks to the 10% omnivamp.

AP Jinx is also a whole lot of fun, though it takes a few items to really unleash hell. Build AP with a Liandry's on top, and pick augments such as Bamboozle and Hoppers (for lots of snares), Arsenal and Comet (absolute killers), and Plan:A for added damage. Well, these were mine when I finished this one game:

https://i.imgur.com/R5jLC3u.jpg

It's one of the tips that show up during loading: try out stuff! What is called "off-build" in other modes is perfectly legal here.

Elucidarious1 votes

Lol, nah bro, I totally agree that those builds are fun to do and have tried quite a few (the full satchel + bouncing bomb augments actually stack to TWELVE times damage while airborne if you manage to hit something on its sixth bounce) but those are very hard to maintain dps and its so ez to get one shot or punished by say ONE Skarner ult and rip. If your god-tier at any of the 5 champs then you can def make it work, but by an large most people are not. Thus, the only real viability lies in the OP picks like Malph Full AD with Transmute or Yas with Wandering/Tempest/Windwalker/Silvered. I'm not trying to throw shit on anyones picks, but from the last 12 or so rounds I played yas, I have over 550k damage and only Malphite ever comes close to the same damage.

NepgearDesu1 votes

Don't worry, I was joking. I know you don't mean ill :3

  • A Short Fuse build is very easy to maintain a high DPS with: you just have to basic attack, Q, attack, W, etc. It's pretty safe thanks to Distributor (850 range), plus your W and E allowing a little room for riskier plays since they can let you escape a rather serious situation were you to run out of Warps.
  • It doesn't deal a lot of AoE damage (not as much as Jinx' AP build), but the damage on 5 targets (thanks to Bounce) is high enough that you can effectively wipe a large area clear of these eggs that spawn Malzahar's minions, all on your own.
  • The Shorter augment makes your Short fuse cool down in 2s, and with 40% CDR, you have a 2.4s CD on your Q. You can effectively roll out something like attack > Q > attack every 2.4s, with a downtime of a little less than 2s which you can use to reposition. Just like Jhin, sort of.
  • Buying stuff like Nashor's tooth or Guinsoo's rageblade lets you deal some damage still if the monsters aren't targeting you or you just wrecked the closest ones. The added attack speed also makes it easier to use your quick combo and GTHO before you're caught by an alien scorpion.

It's a metric ton of fun because it feels so off to deal so much more damage with basic attacks than with an ultimate. Like, how is that even possible?

And to really prove that weird picks can make it to beat Onslaught: yesterday evening (night) I was in a full party, and we were trying to beat Kayn with a team of Yasuo, to no avail. So at some point I went "people, let's play AP Jinx because it's fun". None of my four teammates seemingly had ever tried it in this mode.

The results:

https://i.imgur.com/zJaTtoE.png

Augments were (mostly, not all of them had enough slots): Bamboozle, Hoppers, Arsenal, Comet, Plan:A. 2nd player changed item builds partway because they thought our damage wouldn't be high enough (finished it with Essence reaver, Spear of Shojin, Zeal; didn't do much with these augments), 5th seemingly didn't possess the Plan:A augment, which was a big part of the damage. As for items: item 3020 item 3151 item 3148 item 3124 item 3089 item 1031. Guinsoo's proved rather meh, because I didn't have enough AS for it to have any effect (next time I'll pick a Rod of Ages). I don't like augmenting my Zapper (W), because it feels pretty underwhelming, in so far that it doesn't disable monsters (Kog'Maw / Xerath like monsters keep shooting), doesn't scale with AP and costs boatloads of mana. Maybe in a juggernaut build of sorts? Also, stacking an Archangel's staff is very slow, because you don't have anything you can (nor should) truly spam. I advise against it, and for the management of your mana instead.

  • Try and always keep a Comet on you, in case a massive patch of very angry aliens appears. Said Comet has a 19s charge CD, down to 12s with 40% CDR, but I didn't feel the need of it since I carefully managed my charges.
  • You'll kill anything stationary (Vel'Koz birdies of sorts, for example) with just one Comet thanks to Liandry's and Plan:A.
  • Drop your E whenever it might hit stuff, the Hoppers + Bamboozle augments will decrease its cooldown time drastically. If you manage to hold off a big pack of rather slow things thanks to repeated use of your Chompers, you can then shoot a Comet into them and see them burn to death. Also, the large number of Chompers and the rather low cooldown of the spell makes it so that scorpions etc. rarely get to you.
  • Always keep a look at your minimap: sometimes you will see a mega-pack of aliens bundled in a long corridor. At which point you just have to run a few steps and press R to disintegrate them all.
  • The absurd AoE DPS makes you heal extremely fast, so don't worry if you take a few hits. As long as you aren't dead, you can shoot a Comet into an angry mob and recover.
  • You can begin casting any skill, then Warp (Odyssey Flash) immediately: the spell will shoot where you began casting it from, in the direction you wanted, but you'll have teleported far away in the meantime. It basically lets you get a very risky line of fire, and get away with it unscathed.
  • If you happen upon a map with lots of these weird things that stick out their tongues to grab you, Nautilus-style: don't panic! Hide behind terrain, and ensnare them when they risk getting a clear shot. Their movement capabilities should make them stick close to one another, and by then it's a free Comet apocalypse.
  • It's a motherloving mayhem when all five players shoot stuff in all directions.

Also: I appreciate being called a goddess from time to time. Or god-tier, however you name it really. So thanks, but I still advise anyone and everyone to try stuff out that looks like it might work.

What are the best augments for onslaught? I haven't tried it yet and I want to have the best ready for it

2Charmnot2Charm1 votes

For yasuo, Tempest. Wandering, and Windwalker (these are the only three that matter but if you want another one take Horizon)

Jinx: Arsenal, Comet, Plan A, Antsy, Eager along with item 3151 rush is pretty fun imo.

I don't know whats best for her with 3 aug yet but it will feel bad losing infinite flash to keep the damage augments.

Ziggs is pretty diverse.

Healing Ziggs: Delayed, Shatter, Hexhealing, Leftovers, and Mayhem= better healer than sona with more CC.

Mage: Shatter, Fallout, Overkill, Brink, and last one is whatever you want.

The ult augments are pretty important for mage Ziggs so he can clear mobs fast. Rush item 3151 again % hp damage is too important to not get.

Auto attack DPS: Bounce, Shorter, Brink, Distributor, and Overkill.

Only reason for overkill is so you can gain 80% damage reduction when you're in a tight spot, otherwise your main damage is your autos and you want to spam q when your passive is on cooldown to instantly refresh it. Rush item 3149 for it's % damage obviously.

Sona: Cadence, Cascade, Hyped, Benediction, and flurry.

I haven't tried it yet but having her ult back really fast sounds good to me, and flurry is nice when your yasuo doesn't have windwall ready (or you just lack one on the team) for the Shadow Kayn Ora Phase. But if you want to lag the hell out of your teammates replace flurry with Concerto.[sg-miss-fortune]

You know... these "noobs" survived the previous difficulties.

Also, there's a reason why they are not using full auguments. It's missions. Maybe you should comply and make agreement with your team just like how I did with 4 random Yasuos with 4 auguments full tornado and won the onslaught

As for these "stupid auguments" well... that's just your opinion. It might be stupid to you but not to them. There's also possibilities that they are testing these auguments for future strats

And they die to the lasers because maybe... their flash is used up and on CD? Or maybe because they got so confident that they'll survive it? I must admit that many people really underestimate these lasers :/

Btw I feel like Ziggs is really useless unless you have a good experience with him. Because so far the Ziggs on my team on every onslaught almost never seem to help at all. Started winning onslaughts without Ziggs :)

ShadWooo1 votes

Nope you are wrong. This post was created in second day mode was released and btw it no longer applies.

In first 2 days there were many players who didn't even know what augment are and who really went onslaught after winning 4 or 5 games.

Btw ziggs is really good. It is quite easy to do 5 ziggs mission if you take right augments.
