[Suggestion] Gate New Champions in Ranked with Mastery

When i new champion is released i think that it should be gated in ranked till a person is level 5 for two to four weeks or so. That way both situations can occur. Either A an amount of time has passed to where everyone gets a general idea on how the champ should be played or B. a person dedicated enough time to learning the champion to actually hold their own in ranked. Hell even a level 4 lock with a 1-2 week restriction would be better then what we have now. Might as well put the mastery system to use imo.

Yes, I agree. Not only new champions, I would like ranked a lot better if people would have to be at least Mastery Level 2 on a champion to play them. Maybe even 3, because I can't stand it when people say "sorry still learning champ" or something, then throw game.

yea i kinda figured sometimes you will get games with people who play champions that they have only played once or twice however i think that isn't so bad because older champions have tons of videos, guides and other helpful information to help people transition into those champions while brand new ones do not.

Familiarity and mastery are two separate concepts, and the Mastery system at best only conveys familiarity. You can get carried for 2 wins and be Mastery 2, but you've neither mastered it or are familiar with it yet. At level 5 it can probably be said you are quite familiar with the champion, but that doesn't mean you're good at it.

Look at it this way; The lowest Bronze players that can't do any better than feed probably have mains and have played them enough to be Mastery 5 with it. Any decent player could pick up a newly released champion and ruin them. It's got less to do with individual champions and more with personal skill.

so essentially you are saying that it is better for someone to not have any idea what they are doing with a new champion rather then at least having someone who is familiar with the new champion. That or you saying same being familiar with a champion is somehow worse then first timers. Gotcha

Are you so angry that people don't agree with your every word that you must twist what they say to make you look better to yourself? Wow. You have my sympathies.

really looking for a compromise tbh, sure having them completely disabled in ranked will be ideal however, i am positive this is not something riot will do and as long as people have been complaining about this i would think by now that people would be able to compromise a little to try and get results otherwise it is just another "dont do this" thing.

Nah. I play a lot of champions in ranked that I dont have much mastery on, simply because I played them in previous seasons and before the mastery came out. Even with Ekko, I played him in ranked before getting a mastery on him, still having a 67% winrate with him. If you really have a problem with someone on your team playing a champion, ban them.

You are pretty much missing the point entirely. There are a lot of champions you havent played yes however for example, i have never really played riven but if i ever wanted to there are several resources available to me to give me a healthy head start on her. First day release there was 1 Tahm Kench guide on mobafire and random videos that taught you nothing about him really. While you can say you had a 67% WR with ekko a champion who came out the gate broken can you say the same about 30% WR Tahm Kench or 30% WR Bard or even other ekko players when he was released. Average WR aren't determined by a single player FYI.

Another Issue with your "just ban him remark" You will actually have a higher chance of playing the new champ with my suggestion then now. New champs are almost perma banned in ranked wasting a ban slot regardless.

What i found interesting about this little experiment is that, not even 1 page ago do i see a suggestion to completely remove a new champion from ranked get upvoted to the heavens while my post essentially says the same thing but gives people a pathway to playing them earlier gets downvoted. This community is about as backwards as you can get lol
