Why is Jayce such a touchy subject? He needs to be talked about so he can get help.

Every single time I have brought Jayce up there is always someone there to tell me to shut it. I've was playing Jayce for about two months before I had to take a long break from the game. And while I love playing him, there is something inherently amiss with the guy. I really think he needs a tuneup. Look here is what I have noticed about him agree or disagree as you may.

  1. His itemization is unfocused not really lending its self to a clear build path. This is both good and bad as it lends its self to flexibility but lacks any major power points. Some biulds like Armor Pen Jayce still works, but is extremely hit or miss in the current meta, even then its not quite as strong in hammer form. Rushing Deaths Dance and IceBorn after tear followed by stacking Armor and AD as kind of an anti-carry has also been popular, but doesn't lend its self to cannon stance too well. Reguardless of the build path he goes down he's still in a very strange position for the rest of the team. He has no fixed job, and yet isn't really a flex pick either. Once again not really a bad thing but just not as refined as other champions.

  2. He's not quite a AD Nidalee. I've seen Jayce compared to Nidalee more times then I can count. But what always stops me from comparing the two is that Jayce's kit, while having some similarities, is far more clunky than Nidalee's in comparison. Nidalee is highly mobile, has built in sustain, and is AP. Jayce is more of an artillery peace. While he can have sudden bursts of mobility they are extremely short and often require set up. He has over all very poor sustain in both HP and MP that even itemization can't quite overcome in a standard build (Iceborn Tear combo excluded). And being a non crit AD user means he is much less bursty then would be expected.

  3. I will quot a nice guy from the board here "Jayce is weird. He has two kits that don't really...synergize with each other? Like one kit looks like it was designed for a bruiser (which he isn't with those base stats) and the other looks like it was designed for a poke adc (which he isn't considering he has to lose all of his DPS to change to the form that has his built in peel when someone gets on him)"

I think he needs a change. Something to bring him into a clear cut "this is what he dose and why you would run him" because these days there are better options for poke comps. He's not the go to poke top lane anymore. You want a poke comp you get a Nidalee and a solid tank line like a Maokai top.

Yeah, Jayce is in there with the long list of ~more than half of Riot's champion pool that are currently sitting almost completely useless in professional and casual ranked play.

I feel like as League of Legends has gotten more famous with eSports, Riot's balance team has become less focused on the majority of their champion base - and more focused on only a few champions.

While a lot of people won't agree, only a handful of champions have ever received favour when it comes to balancing, and a few of them are; Zed, Lee Sin, Lucian, Jinx...

These "Top List" champions that Riot favours see less harsh nerfs compared to other champions, more favourable buffs and slap on the wrists.

There's plenty proof of it. For example, when Nidalee was "too good" and needed nerfs, Riot utterly destroyed her... for the 4th time. But, when Zed and Lee Sin were "too good", they received very very light nerfs that were like being slapped on the wrist with a string.

Anyway, yeah. I highly doubt Jayce will see any kind of balance attention any time soon. Olaf, Urgot, Yorick, Warwick, Skarner... so many champions in their champion pool go ignored. Even fewer are even touched in professional play.

Jayce is good and everything, but he needs a larger auto attack range. I know Riot likes to give viable ranged top laners a lower auto attack range than normal, but I feel like he would be a lot better if they made this one change. Also he needs to get more mana per hit in hammer stance and needs more resists early. Maybe even give him a shield on hammer stance W.

Well okay in regards to the mana, have you looked at the new tear? That will fix alot. But what he really needs is like graves levels of MR and Armor when he switches to hammer stance. The pitiful buff he gets now is not noticeable. I personally would like it if they made To The Skys a skill shot instead of a point and click so it has more utility then just a engage tool. But I think his cannon range is fine considering you switch between melee and range.

Perhaps not Graves level, but what I like was your suggestion for making To The Skies a skill shot. I thought about this a while ago, think I even posted about it. If Jayce had To The Skies as a skill shot he would be a lot safer when it comes to being ganked or just being a bit better positioning-wise in team fights. I also think lowering the cool down on switching stances would be appreciated.

Well heres an idea, what if they let you put points in your R and it gave you bounce Armor and MR while in hammer and attack speed in Cannon and that increased as you put points in.

Actually scratch that bad idea.

I personally agree something should be done, not a full on rework, but a touch up at least. Maybe making To the Skies! an untargeted ability to go over walls easier, though that is what makes a good Jayce fun to watch... In all though he needs minor touch ups to help him compete top and mid.PLZ RITO!!!!
