What happened to 20-minute laning phases?

Serious question. It's incredibly annoying when you're trying to farm in lane at 10 minutes, and then something happens that triggers Teamfight phase. It could be as simple as a gank, and then the bot lane follows the JG back to mid to push the tower. Soon enough, it's teamfight phase at 12 minutes. Before S6, lane phases were relaxed, and lasted well beyond 15-20 minutes; sometimes even 25-30. Teamfights only happened when one lane won/lost.

I was playing Jhin Mid today, and I was barely level 9 before their ADC and support came mid FOR NO REASON. I wasn't even overextended; I was under tower, and our bot-lane minion wave was pushed to their outer turret! In response, our JG and top came to mid, and before you know it: 5v5 teamfight at level 9. The worst part? This teamfight lasted 40 minutes! It started at 15:00, but we didn't even win until about 54:47. It's the most annoying for the mid laner b/c he/she can't get XP with everyone in the area.

Can someone answer my question? I don't understand how teamfights used to start at 20-25 min and now they begin as early as 15 minutes (at least for me).

How long have you been playing LoL?

I'm kind of getting the sense what you're reminiscing about was your level 1~30 yoloqueue experience.

For, well, pretty much forever games of LoL have taken ~33 minutes on average and seen ~11,000 gold per player, or 3 major 3k items, 1k in boots, and 1k in the bank when someone's Nexus explodes.

lanning phase ends for that lane when a tower dies. It takes long enough for the minions to move from one tower to the other there's no risk in roaming the map and pressuring other lanes, with a pretty solid reward. Usually someone's tower falls before 10 minutes, which stats mid-game and can result in team fights and skirmishes right there. By 20 minutes each lane is usually down a tower, which generally results in large-scale teamfights from then on, barring a committed split-pusher.

Probably because people want to A. End Quick (For example if you're against a Vayne you would want to do that, or if your team is falls off late) or B. Its because people always complain about 45+ games and riot is trying to fix that.

Every game ive had that lasted more than an hour and wasnt just one team was stalling to end, thought it was a great game. People complain about 20 minute games being a waste of their time so 45+ is kinda meh xD

Normally was at a standstill most of the game. Half the time during the team fights all the people who could actually do damage and end the game died on both teams, normally with just supports left alive or adc's killed and then the team fight split because both were low and were gonna die if they stayed. Or minions not pushed enough with anyone alive to take out tower or with enough hp to tank tower..... etc. Was a while ago since i had games like 1h 10 min games, but i think my record atm was 1h 16 mins and some seconds.

Ive been in silver for like 2 seasons or so, other than that i do not pay attention to elo. Ever.

Ive had games that had teamfighting start as early as 1 minute. Roaming has become easier and more rewarding most of the time, and so invades happen. Then after the invade, the adc might be fine at bott with just farming, so the support roams mid or with the ally jungler into enemy jungle territory. Then there is top and support and jungle coming for enemy mid laner, boom that is down. Top teleports back up and farms again, gets ganked by enemy mid and jungle. Boom your top is down, turret goes down, enemy top starts roaming. May not be full 5v5 but grouping is pretty much everywhere at all stages of the game. With good communication you can coordinate those a lot easier as well, and since there is easy communication with Skype, Curse Voice, and TeamSpeak...... you can get a full team on the phone in less then a minute normally. Which i suppose could be the answer to your question prehaps?

Better communication + easier roams = earlier team fights?
