How about an expieriment where one can ban an item instead of a champion from a game?
Probably give a lot more insight on what items players hate seeing.

would be funny as hell hahaha

"Tanks the entire enemy team in the fountain by just regening"
Just ban IE and Phantom dancer and you just gutted the ADC role. Or you could ban every single grievous wounds item and just run a busted susten comp
^^^^^^^ This asf
Phantom dancer is only build in a few adcs, I think you mean Zeal, so no one can build RFC-Shyv-Runaan-PDancer.
How does banning Zeal stop anyone from building anything that builds from Zeal?
I can buy Phantom Dancer without buying Zeal.
Re: The Wolf King - Okay, if they ban basic items like that, nothing is going to stop them from building higher tier items that build from the banned item.
Re: Mew28 - Then they've gutted the ADC role for themselves as well. And if they ban all the Grievous Wounds items they aren't banning any champions who have more than enough methods of dealing with a sustain comp.
Could make for a fun game mode, but it will never fly in basic summoner's rift.
How about if each side suggests items to ban and one of the suggestions is randomly picked per side... AND THEN THE CHAMPS ARE RANDOMLY PICKED TOO! It would be impossible to plan your comp around your item ban, but it would be funny as hell to see the chaos unfold afterwards when both teams struggle to put together a decent comp. It would also show better what item people thing is overall loathed or OP if they're banning it not to exploit the enemy not having it but to just plain avoid seeing it.
Can I ask how banning items is different from banning champions?
Because the response here has me confused.
You can build your team around item bans? Well, you can build your team around champ bans too.
You ban IE + Zeal items and boom, no ADC anymore You ban Triforce or BC and boom, half the Bruiser roster is beyond shit You ban a Jungle item and boom, jungle is shit You ban Zhonyeas and boom, assassins OP You ban support items and boom, all supports are beyond shit You ban grevious wounds items and boom, you get Swain mid Vlad top Soraka Support Mundo jungle You ban Duskblade and boom, 70% of all assassins are shit You ban mana items and boom, every mage is shit
You don't just ban an item no, you ban literally tens of champions from that single ban. You can ban items that counter you and rampage around. See where the problem is?
No I don't.
Even if all five players ban items instead of champs they literally cannot hit all the items.
And your Grievous Wounds example is really dumb. You'd think someone on the other team would pick some of those sustain champs if you banned all those items. Or at least I'd hope you'd think that.
You don't need to hit all the items?
You need to hit core items, Steraks Cage / Triforce ban and boom, half of all bruisers are shit As long as there are core items you can't just let players ban items How do you think you want to play jungle without a jungler item?!
And what if you don't want to play Vlad / Swain / Mundo / Soraka? What if you don't have these champs? What if you don't know how to play them? You can't expect a guy to be able to play all 130+ champs at all roles and playstyles perfectly.
This idea is so dumb because of multiple reason that I don't know how you are still trying to defend it.
You need to hit core items, Steraks Cage / Triforce ban and boom, half of all bruisers are shit As long as there are core items you can't just let players ban items
Then don't play the ones that are shit, obviously.
And what if you don't want to play Vlad / Swain / Mundo / Soraka? What if you don't have these champs? What if you don't know how to play them?
Buy them and learn to play them, or lose if you don't want to play as them. I don't see how this is so difficult for you to grasp.
This idea is so dumb because of multiple reason that I don't know how you are still trying to defend it.
And I will continue to pose this question to you. How is banning items ANY DIFFERENT from banning champions.
If I go into Draft pick and someone bans the champ I want to pick. I'll just play as someone else that game.
If I go into this hypothetical mode and someone bans core items. I PICK A CHAMP THAT DOESN'T NEED THOSE ITEMS!
I STILL HAVE PLENTY OF CHOICE! IMAGINE THAT!
IT'S NOT THAT COMPLEX!
If you let everyone in a 5 v 5 ban one completed item, then watch this:
Ban:

I just gimped over half of the ADC Roster, every single AD Assassin, any AP champion that was even thinking of getting Hourglass, gimped general AD safety with GA, and knocked out over half of the mage roster thinking of having an earl-mid game with Luden's.
And this is with only one team's worth of bans. Imagine what happens if the other side does

Suddenly, despite an overlap of two items, Bruisers and Fighters are no longer viable, and every marksmen bar Ezreal and Teemo (hey!) are unplayable.
Welcome to wet noodle fights. :^)
"Then don't play the ones that are shit, obviously."
Yeah dude just play the 3 bruiser champs that are left viable whats the problem right?
"Buy them and learn to play them, or lose if you don't want to play as them. I don't see how this is so difficult for you to grasp."
Yeah let's just fuck over every single one trick there is and also fuck over newer players and new player experience and also fuck over fun since you can't play what you actually want while we are at it let's fuck over chamion diversity and let's fuck over build diversity. I don't see a problem here hurr durr what could go wrong hurr durr
"And I will continue to pose this question to you. How is banning items ANY DIFFERENT from banning champions."
I told you above why banning a champion is DIFFERENT from banning an item!
When banning core items you literlly ban whole ROSTERS of champions!
A roster is more than ONE champion!
There is the difference.
"If I go into Draft pick and someone bans the champ I want to pick. I'll just play as someone else that game."
If I want to play Darius and a guy bans Darius I can just go to the next bruiser and pick Yorick because I like to play bruisers! But guess what! The enemy just banned BC / Steraks / Triforce so EVERY SINGLE BRUISER IS SHIT!
You DONT have a choice! You are FORCED to pick something you are not comfortable with.
How is this so hard to understand I don't get it?
But guess what! The enemy just banned BC / Steraks / Triforce so EVERY SINGLE BRUISER IS SHIT!
You DONT have a choice! You are FORCED to pick something you are not comfortable with.
They wasted 3 bans on Bruiser items? so I won't pick a bruiser.
I ALWAYS have a choice.
Alright there is no point in arguing, you just don't want to understand.
There are reasons why it isn't implemented and you can re-read them above and to be honest, in the whole comment section. The only time it would have been useful was in the ardent meta where ardent cancer actually made more champs unviable than viable so banning it would have resulted in more champs being viable.
Would make a fun gamemode for sure though.
I'd ban IE
This would be really interesting if each team could only ban a single, completed item (not boots) with chance of overlap. One or two items gone. You have to do it before champions are picked and since it's only two, there's little chance you can completely cripple and one role or counterbuild.
If someone bans IE, just pick a Lethality, CDR or On-hit Marksman. If someone bans Thornmail, you can still build Bramble Vest for in lane and have a teammate get GWs for late game. One Support item is gone? Take a Support that can pick another. If you need to pick that Support for comp reasons, you can still build up to the Tier 2.
Trinity, Duskblade and Liandry's would probably be the most crippling, imo, in terms of how they limit champion choices.
I'd like if they could ban tier 2 items only, but could still build the items that they go into. You can delay enemies powerspikes without forcing different builds.
I don't see how that's supposed to be healthy. You'll have Zed mains running around banning Zhonya's for example.
People will ban Zed or Duskblade.
It's not any less healthy than the current option to ban champions.
I'll ban longsword.
Experiment over.
