It boggles my mind how a Diamond 2 ADC can be matched against a Gold 5 one

I get that it's only normals, but part of the reason I rarely play normals is the matchmaking is fucking atrocious. Seriously, fix this shit already. I couldn't even be mad at the fact my botlane was basically inting because they were virtually set up for failure. I find it outstanding that this shit has been going on for yeas now.

then again.. i PERSONALLY loved that game becuase it was the first challenger player i ever got to face in one of my own games in 5 years of playing...

( yeah 3v3 challenger isnt the same as a 5v5 challenger, but its challenger none the less)

and i actaully got to see a player beat me not becuase they were "fed" or picking a "broken op champion" but because they outplayed me..

and damn they were amazing to watch.. i wish i could face challenger players more often..

i was only ever able to shut her down once before she got crazy far ahead... but i had a fantasic time that game.. even though we lost.

s/he played so beautifully and countered my ganks so perfectly i was was like WOW that was soo perfectly done.

i did get her the one time when she ganked top.

but i did feel back for the poor unranked yas who stood no chance in hell

Usually it's the result of group q's. My friend group spans diamond to silver and while positional matchmaking has certainly helped, sometimes it's just too much of a difference.

Bro, this has happened to me in SoloQ several times. Especially at the start of the season, when ex-Diamond players don't have their ranks yet and they can be practically put against any rank. My first game in this situation was against a Diamond 5 Kata mid (I was B2 then). The result was unexpected. No matter how good she played, I ended up going 13/1 and stomping the **** out of her.

The reason is very simple: if you have a normal MMR for, say, Silver/Gold, the matchmaking system will try to pair you against players with similar MMR. If a Diamond player has their MMR around 1300, then, well, that's a boosting case. So, in my experience, never be discouraged. Seeing a high-elo guy and thinking 'OK GG this is over' has a great psychological impact.

Also, even if they are truly high-elo, there's a VEEERY small chance that you'll be able to outplay them.

I once played a 1vs1 against a Master. Same champion. We had equal skills on that champion (Anivia) and we kept killing each other EXACTLY at the same time and doing exactly the same combos. Why? Because I am an ex-Anivia OTP and he was playing her for the 4th time that season. Remember: experience on a specific champ can counter even Diamonds XD. Rarely, but it can.
