Sona, Kleptomania, and Spellthief's Edge

I mean- was it intended for the notorious Q+click to get such an advantage?

With Kleptomania and Spellthief's Edge, it doesn't take a Sona very long to acquire Lich Bane. And with that it's GG- her entire kit is utilized to extreme efficiency and early domination with just a starter item and her first essential.

If a Sona rushes Lichbane and then dominates you, then you really have only your self to blame. Take advantage of her terrible early game and you should be fine.

I haven't had a problem facing Sona. I'm talking from the pov of using Sona. Klepto+Spellthiefs gives Sona an amazing early game with gold income. Klepto also gives those skill point elixers. I had a game where I was maxed at 16. With good teamwork, Sona can get her Lich Bane early.

the issue is that she needs to auto attack you to use kleptomania, something that she really only does (with a passive support) once every 3 spellcasts, now of course an aggressive sona will benefit more from kleptomania than a passive sona but overall she still has to be able to auto attack you to gain anything from it in the first place, now as far as spellthiefs she has always benefited from that line of items just because she only has one ability that needs aimed and that's her ult, the others simply target the nearest enemy or ally at the cast time, giving high priority to champions and large monsters

Sonas AA range is fairly close to the range of her Q. Typically, when Sona can land a Q she can follow up with an attack.

^I might be wrong considering I don't Q until I'm in range to attack...

I play Sona like I play Taric- aggressive attack and spam casting.

I understand, I mained sona till she started getting banned a lot in my games, but yes I'm aware of her AA range (its slightly smaller than her q range) and since I play an aggressive sona I figured id put the two support styles of sona in my answer, A more passive player will rarely autoattack unless they can do so without retaliation, while an aggressive one will risk damage to land an auto. but yes generally anytime sona presses q she can also autoattack unless they flash or get away somehow

I get that. But with the Kleptomania (or is it kleptomancy...) on top of Spellthief's bonuses- it seems prudent to utilize these effects. Like I said- I was able to get my Lich Bane rather quickly- and Klepto kicked in so much I was able to get those elixirs and dominate on skill potency.

Honestly as a support main, I highly doubt that Lichbane rush is representative of most Sona builds. (I wouldn't prioritize it over sight stone.)

Still, I find that sona works best once she has items. Personally, I do not rely on going full monty on damage. I do poke aggressively, for the Kleptomancy gold, But I invest that gold in Redemption, and Censor, pretty much to turn that poke into an unstoppable enchanter.

True. A good support should get vision and good utility items. Sona can be played Mid as well, and can out farm her opponent by simply poking them away from the CS. Killing minions resets Tribute, so Sona Mid can grab Spellthief's and harass her lane opponent while ignoring CS. Neither Sona or her opponent will get much CS this way- but Sona will be getting gold income where her opponent will not.

And as for support, aggressive builds are common. I feel Ignite is an aggressive Support spell- and I've seen many "kill lane" bottom laners. (Rengar and Thresh is a good example of a Kill Lane)

another kill lane that ive seen popping up is the old xerath "support" who can ultimately barrage the enemy out of lane if they get too aggressive or play too passive, hes a terror either way granted hes a lot squishier than most off supports

Well the major thing here is that kleptomancy is more or less random in the rewards you get from it, ive tried klepto on sona and a few others and out off those games ive gotten ONE elixir of skill and still finished my first item in line with where I normally do, at about 10 minutes if I don't snipe any minions, that said if you happen to get lucky and get say 5 or 6 gold pouches with 100 gold in them each you will very likely be 10-20 minions worth ahead of even your lane partner depending. but overall kleptomancy is not a reliable way to jucge a chmpions power because it has unreliable and random rewards for its use, sure it greatly boosts that champions effectiveness but only when it gives something major. and for klepto to be overpowered it would need to be more reliable on melee champions, right now its primarily a ranged only rune (except GP, Kayle, and Jayce who can be both) and has in fact lead to more than a few champions being pushed aside because they cant compete gold wise with an enemy champion who can use klepto (ezreal)

Good point. But I think Irelia is the champion who can benefit most from Klepto. "I think". I don't play Ire, but I know when I lane against her she seems to be able to spam a couple abilities.

Are you seriously complaining about Sona's earlygame?

Sona is the worst performing support early even out of off-picks, If Sona is poking early you only have to do one simple thing to stop her, click on her and she will take way more damage and mana drain then you, Sona is also gated by tear now thanks to the mana nerfs Even with the money gain it can come down to pure RNG on those Klepto procs

The stats say that Sona is a pretty bad champion now, no good earlygame, pretty bad winrate overall now, no higher elo plays are picking her (dead on probuilds for 9 days) and really looks like she needs buffs

No. I capitalize on this. Plus I usually support with either Alistar or Heimerdinger, Sonas don't give me too much of a problem.

her stats don't take into account the players familiarity with her or who she is facing, not to mention there are runes (manaflow band) that relax her mana restrictions, the only reason she was even nerfed is because she has the ease of access and reliability on her spells that most other supports cant even come close to (I mean she literally has one aimed ability) if two sonas were fighting each other then it would come down to who knew more about how the champion works over who can press buttons faster.

ill example this, a sona can actually 1v1 an adc post 6 as long as she manages her spells correctly and uses her items effectively, and it can be done fairly quickly (shes almost like the urgot of supports) once you know what to do and how to do it you can pretty much use her like you would an adc or fighter
