Why does ghost not activate a character's running animation?

I have Sion's mecha sion skin, and only get to see his jetpacks used very rarely throughout the game, despite using ghost in almost every match .1820 skin should activate his jetpacks, instead of speedrunning.

Because you have to reach a certain speed in order to activate the running animations.

Generally those speeds are achieved by the 20 minute buff you get at fountain.

Sauceyapples2 votes

It lasts for twenty minutes? ;)

doiminat0r36001 votes

The buff you get at 20 minutes. Just rememebered the name "Homeguards"

I know you just said 20 minute buff so it sounded like you meant it lasted 20 min lol

Actually, isn't it based entirely around Homeguards? They're certainly referred to as Homeguard animations.

Sometimes you see people enter their haste animations from Youmuu's or Lulu's W

Atanchan2 votes

Huh. Maybe that's two different classes of animations, then, with Homeguard ones being reserved for ones that don't transition well into or from in-combat animations, like Pool Party Rek'sai jetski.

Zed goes into running ninja-style with just Youmuu, yeah.

But i only see my SG Janna flying with homeguard, and she has to be way faster than him with W + mobi and the additionnal point runner / censor / shurelia.

That sucks, it's the most beautiful thing on the skin.

Or Stormraiders

Diana's running animation is sexy

Nope it's only for homeguards. Try getting the same amount of speed without homeguards and it won't activate the running animation. Same for Pulsefire Caitlyn.

macromite4 votes

there are running and homegaurd animations. I'm pretty sure a few legendaries have both.

every sion skin that isn't mecha zero sion gets the running animation when you use ghost.

I'd love to see my Star Guardian Janna's comet animation more. It's so pretty. [zombie-nunu-hearts]

With the music too?

Heroquet1 votes

So very much. It's dumb we don't get to see this more as it's the best thing on the skin :/

Well should Ghost make us float instead and make us transparent?

I think any kind of MS buff boost should activate running animation, so that these animations don't feel useless waste of time on some champions (similar to crit animations) and it might provide more clarity.

I realize though that it may be distracting for some people and become pain in ass in team with many MS buffs. Then there are cases like Deadman's where you have to decide whether that champion would be permarunning or just at certain threshold.

Atanchan4 votes

Maybe not any kind of MS buff or even any kind of MS buff that pushes a champion past a certain threshold, but it seems fair that a lot more buffs are tagged to use the animation.

Should be reserved for buffs that create high moments, like Righteous Glory, Talisman of Ascension, On the Hunt, etc. Though while Whimsy can certainly act that way, it'd probably be funnier for it to keep the hyperspeed walking, fitting for such a whimsical spell.

Ghost is delayed, it takes a second to spin it up. For the 1st second of ghost activation there is very little meaningful movement speed increase. It's the unit passthrough that matters at that point. So do you wanna see a running animation move really slow or a walking animation suddenly move fast?

Mecha Incognito2 votes

The thing is it would look very poor in the middle of combat, going from floating to being on the ground for a split second to floating again. It's fine just having it as a homeguard animation.

CasterGilgamesh10 votes

they could just make it so the running animation doesn't play when you are in combat and be out of combat only

Project omen2 votes

That sounds like a lot of unnecessary coding.

MrryZ2 votes

A check for being out of combat really isn't much coding whatsoever

Odriew1 votes

Do you want Riot to have more spaghetti code? Because that's how you get more spaghetti code (more than the 60-ish percent we already have).

MrryZ1 votes

Im about 90% sure they already have the code for an out of combat check. Also if you manage to spaghetti an out of combat check what are you doing coding for a huge game like league.

Wait... Do ghosts even run? Where are they going in such a hurry hmmmm

Shepherd o Souls1 votes

This is something I've always wanted to see. I only have 1 problem with it:

While some skins would be really fun to have it on (like Mech Sion or GF Lee) It would be distracting while in combat on skins like PF Cait or the Star guardian skin line. They could just disable it in combat for intensive haste animations though.

LunarStrike1 votes

the better question is, what's up with sivir's animations

Elikain1 votes

You have to reach a certain MS threshold in order to activate those animations. So that means Ghost in early levels without any additional MS does not pass it. So no Homeguard animations for you! [slayer-jinx-wink]
