I'd be interested in how Riot's matchmaking works

I started climbing not so long ago and so far only have 23 wins only got to Silver 1 so far. Neverthless i am kind of confused by getting a player that played his very first ranked game in my team. Shouldn't these players be matched with bronze players instead of low gold/high silver? Kind of hard to carry a game when your toplane goes 5/22

Matching complete beginners in these kinds of games is basicaly a free win for the enemy team. It's bad for the newbie becasue he gets flamed and doesn't have fun and it's bad for the other teammates because it is nearly 100% they will waste their time and LP.

Kind of fucked up

Its silver. The system tends to put new/unranked players in silver elo.

Riot would say that see we want players in low ELO or lower-rank to become better so we put them into those games which have at least one 'normal' player in each team. And of course, they can use this approach to manipulate players' win rate and make them put more effort (more time in League = more chance they can earn $$$ from them) in this game. This phenomenon has happened more frequently simply because the player pool has shrunken. If you played in OCE then you should know what I said.

that really doesnt matter cuz people in every elo sucks goes first time champion or 0/10

Yea RIOT does this. They make you play with new and or bad players when you are on a win streak or about to rank up to prove that you deserve it. The Silver1 wall is real.

If you have 23 wins in silver, you're talking about yourself.
