Two things jump out at me right away:

  • You apply the passive on auto attack, meaning in order to NOT apply it you have to NOT auto attack...
  • The damage amplification passive works on damage dealt by your team, so it makes sense on whichever member of the team can best control when they auto attack. Why not just throw this on your support? On a utility support 3250 gold to amplify dmg 25% against one target seems reasonable... or, as Nebuul pointed out, any mage that can trade without using autos. Because there's no window for the damage amplified, as long as you eventually make use of the 25% damage amplification effect, it will be gold efficient over a big-ticket AP item in terms of damage.

Remember it's not a damage amp; it's not actually a Zed ult.

It deals damage based on missing HP, so it doesn't need to be on the target while the target takes damage in order to kill. If someone's low and you auto them, you do the damage regardless of whether you do anything else before it pops.

This wouldn't be as good on supports because it's definitely a kill secure effect. The support would end up getting the kill

Yeah calling it a damage amp isn't technically correct, but thinking about execution abilities as damage amplifications when you're theory crafting makes more sense.

Anyway, if you just think of it as a really, really strong purchasable execution ability, it makes just as much if not more sense on champs that didn't deal any damage before because you still get the execution on your team but can control it better.

The forced on-hit effect makes it so that you have to choose who you're attacking. That kind of pick power is realistically only available to assassins.

Spending 3250g on AD and arm.pen. just so that a mage can have a missing health damage boost on a single basic attack is a bad idea. You'd be better off buying Nashor's Tooth or Lich Bane.

For mages, maybe. If they have mixed ratios like Katarina and don't really need to auto for damage it might be worth the wasted arpen. I think the more interesting point, however, is that ranged champions in teamfights can often choose who to auto attack, which means a ranged support could realistically build it.

Akali TwistedFate maybe Diana and Katarina . Malphite and Blitzcrank are the only realistic choices, and not even they might do it.

Ranged carries don't get to choose, they just have to target whoever's nearest. Twitch and Kindred maybe, but even they're subject to the same vulnerabilities that prevent ranged carries from initiating on whoever they like.

Theoretically, it's an interesting concept. Numerically, it will always be an inferior option to something else you could spend money on. The concept is akin to buying a Zhonya's on Draven. Wasting that much gold value just isn't worth any active.

That's not really what it's doing though. It applies an execution effect to someone who is already that low. If you get this on a mage, you lose a huge chunk of your ability to actually get someone that low. I'd much rather have my mage be doing damage to people no matter what their health bar is instead of potentially doing more damage to an enemy who is already low. Even on a support there are pretty much always better options, particularly since a support may often not be near the target that your team is focusing down.

I don't see this being a real option. Spending 3,250 gold just for a very situational execution effect that isn't even guaranteed to work well isn't something supports are going to be able to do. It didn't work for DFG's magic damage enhancement even though supports could use the stats and it was much harder to mess up, and I don't see any reason why this should be any better when supports can't use the stats.

More like, you have to choose who you want to autoattack first. Kind of like an assassin does.

I think it would work much better than DFG for three reasons:

  • You can use it after the damage has been dealt
  • It works with physical damage
  • Giving your adc an effective 25% dmg increase on someone diving them is pretty significant

More like, you have to choose who you want to autoattack first. Kind of like an assassin does.

True, but if you have no intention of procing the effect yet and want to wait you kind of have to twiddle your thumbs. It also means it's inefficient if you want to take out a low-hp target that you'd be able to pop with one or two autos without the passive. I guess that's the "strategic play" that comes with the item but generally Riot tries to avoid situations in which a bad outcome (inefficient use of abilities) is difficult to extricate form a seemingly good decision (killing an enemy). For very low cooldowns, like ludens, the shard items, and champion passives, forced passives on spellcasts and auto attacks are a sensible way to gate things. But this is a two minute cd. Imagine how a champion would feel if your ultimate was cast every time you auto attacked a champion?

Either way this is good, sensible discussion.

Yeah I'm trying it out with champs that can do damage with their abilities like Annie Brand Caitlyn DrMundo Ezreal (even do I'm sure his e will still proc it) and Heimerdinger and others as well. Now hybrid champs like Elise JayceNidalee should be able to use this very well since they can land plenty of abilities before needing to land an auto.
