Rod of Ages honestly is a rather boring item choice

All it does is function as a stat stick, and even though it might give plenty of stats, that doesn't come across as exciting or dynamic. One could say the same for Rabadon, but at least that one gives a crapton of AP, so it's justified.

I also don't see many people even go for Rod of Ages, instead getting either item 3152 or item 3030 because of their active effects. It's kinda sad, and any attempts to make Rod of Ages give you more stats just get it nerfed into the ground again.

I'd like it if Rod of Ages could get some kind of active effect to make it less boring, or could give ridiculous stats after, say, 20 minutes in your possession.

A fully charged rod simply offers better raw stats. Some people like that. People like me.

Only marginally better stats. If it were much better raw stats, then I'd find it okay.

If they were much better raw stats, they would also have to make it more than 2750 gold.

What if the extra stats came in sometime after the first 10 minutes? You'd have to wait even longer to get the absolute full benefits, but said full benefits would be super-strong.

It's for scaling mages, it's never supposed to be for everybody.

Morello on the other hand, is too go-to.

As for your complaints on stat-stick... isn't the point of item is to be stat-sticks, first and foremost, hence why most of the items are non-active, and are stat-sticks?

But you can find other ways to use the flat stats. It all comes down to preferred build and playstyle, and what champ your talking about, and the specific game.

Literally every none active item is a stat stick?

What if they just leave it as is because there's nothing wrong with it?

I honestly prefer it vs Morellonomicon(both are pretty much stat sticks though, one just gives pure damage/some mana sustain up front, the other gives you a semi good item with good tankiness/mana sustain/damage but way better later on. The only thing Morello has on it is that it gives it's 100 AP up front so you're doing more damage from the get-go and the fact that it has the added bonus of grievous wounds, oh and the 20% CDR(which honestly at this point is just a random added effect no one builds it for)
