I got to ask Sirhcez what he thought of Zz' Rot portal on stream today

His response was "I dunno man this s--- is pretty useless"

He was playing Nasus and they ended up winning either way. .

So it looks like there isn't much point to building it on those who want farm or do not need more "tower-killing" power, but it is an extremely strong tool if many players purchase it on the same team or if a heavy waveclear or siege champion like Heimerdinger or Azir purchases it.

If you purchase it on a fighter who can already push/melt towers quickly enough you are probably better purchasing a combat-based item since the main advantage ZZ'P provides isn't utilized that well. .

There have been a lot of threads complaining about the item being Over-powered, which may just be because players have not discovered effective counterplay to the item yet, as it goes with many new champions or items. . . As a tank main I am very very happy Riot is wanting to give more love to non-bruiser tanks (as tanks have pretty much been the laughing stock of ADCs and Zed recently) and give them more split pushing capabilities but I haven't decided if this was the optimal route to do so or not. . . Anyone care to discuss?

It's kickass on high resist tanks like Leona and Galio . Their AR/MR boosts can make the banelings that come out of the portals hurt like crazy.

Plus it gives them an awesome late-game durability booster to make their resists even harder to breach.

It also allows for more map presence which most tanks lack (besides running summoner 12 ), which is a neat aspect of it.

I have very mixed feelings about it, it has some very nice features that give much needed power to some champions that are weak split pushers but can supplement and be abused by high-waveclear mages to make them an unstoppable pushing presence.

They might end up perhaps limiting the amount of void gates that can be on the map for one team, or built by the players of one team as an incentive to not stack them and overwhelm the enemy players.

Or as an alternative, they could modify Ohmwrecker to hard-counter the void gates. For instance, using Ohmwrecker on one could shut it down for a good time period and weaken its defenses, letting you snipe it easily if you can get close enough.

It would not defeat a multi-Zz'Rot team build on its own, but would at least stymie it.

Buying items to counter items is bad. It leads to really weird and annoying situations. Anyways, on Nasus I don't see it being good since Nasus doesnt even need it to kill towers or push.

That is correct. Nasus and Veigar would only buy it as a final item

But some champs would love it ... looks at Sion and his bonus health passive. Sion could build: item 3111 item 3512 item 3026 item 3110 item 3074 item 3075 Get free health from lanes he isn't even in ... and jungle for more health.

Also would be epic on Shen because he is a strong split pusher already. Adding item 3512 would just add speed to the tower taking. Shen could build: item 3111 item 3512 item 3026item 3143 item 3065 item 3025 I personally would buy item 3512 on a champ no matter the position., just replace item 3026 with it.
