Promos should be removed completely

Promos don't accomplish much, they don't make you feel any better when you get through them other than (maybe relief) and the logic behind them makes no sense.

If you have a 50+ % win rate, you should climb. Period. You shouldn't be restricted on a rank because when you got to 100 LP you got some "special games" where suddently you get matched with trolls and toxic people.

If you are doing good, why is it that losing on THAT one promo matter much more? You shouldn't need to have a 66% win rate on those 3 matches or 60% win rate if you need 5 promos. Just remove those completely, and let us climb when we get to 100 LP. If we got there, it probably means we deserve that rank we got. If we don't , we climb down.

I had to do my promos 3 times to go from S4 to S3, because of people trolling and being toxic. I had some flaws in the games, sure, but I could've won if it wasn't for them.

I like the promos from division to division, silver to gold ect. but the 5 to 4 to 3 to 2 to 1... cmon riot.

Srsly..promos from one to another division is fine but promos after every single SUBDIVISION....cmmon...

The amusing thing is that Divisional promotional series' are actually harder than going Tier to Tier (S1 to G5, etc.) Winning 2/3 games plus needing to win one to get there is a 75% win ratio, whereas winning 3/5 games plus needing to win one to get there is a 67% win ratio.

Overall, promotionals make absolutely zero sense to me and are a big reason why I very rarely play Ranked any more. I could have a permanent 60% win rate and it would still take me a few full rotations of promos to move up depending on the pattern of wins and losses, which is outright poor design.

There's also the fact that MMR and tier/division placement have very little to do with each other, especially when interacting with promotional games. I could be Gold 5 playing at the level of a Gold 1 consistently over many games and never move up, or I could be Silver 2 playing at the level of a Bronze and not move down.

Yup, promos and the disconnect between MMR and LP/tier/division is the entire reason why I don't give any fucks about getting back to plat let alone diamond.

Both times I tried for diamond the past 2 seasons my MMR skyrocketed and fucked over my promos, so why would it be any different this season.

Promos Yesterday: First game, Mid feeding intentionally (he knew I was in promos), because he couldn't get Morgana. Second game: Jungler flaming mid for picking ezreal (pregame chat), flaming him whole game and then going AFK after 10 Minutes. He was still in game but lost intentionally because of mid Ezreal pick :D Guys, just don't play Rankeds on Sunday 20-24. You'll just meet 12 year old kids playing with the account of their brothers (and they were Platin!!) xD Does Riot actually know, that there are a lot of people out there, who troll people in promos, just because they are in promos? :D

I understand where you come from, people are ridiculously toxic and especially in Silver, it feels just like we have to pray to God that our teammates aren't trolls and don't feed all game long. Either we single handedly get fed and hard carry our entire team alone, or we simply lose.

Yes by all means let me lose my promos, and then get reported for: -telling people to not troll -telling a person who keeps telling everyone to kill themselves to stfu

Then chat restrict me to make it even harder to play and coordinate ganks, then do some ranked bans. Chat restrictions im fine with(even though the ping sreally aren't enough) but ranked bans are stupid. Why do you have to play draft and then WIN the matches. You get even more trolls there...

And what about a new league system, hasn't anyone thought about it? Im tired of win a match and get 20 pts, then lose another match with a result of 12/3/8 and lose the 20 pts i get before... Only because someone plays alone or just has a bad day. But it isnt my problem that they feed and troll. Im thinking on consider the KDA and the cs of your match, so if you have a good result, but you lose, you shouldnt lose a lot of pts (like -10) and if you win with a good result you would win like 25 pts or something like that. I think this system would be much fair.

if you have that kinda thing going on your mmr should be pretty low, and you are in elo hell. Gold+players will rat on and on about elo hell not existing. It's there. The point where you gain less lp then you lose, i.e. losing 2 game's worth of lp in a single match.

There's some info on Reddit. Both are pretty clear it won't happen until preseason because it would be disruptive given how late it is in Season 5.

Personally, I liked the suggestion that was made a while back concerning promos: Basically, if you won your promos once before, you don't have to win them again.

I think promos are okay in the fact that they help to track progress and give you something to work for, but having to redo your promos just cuz you get on a small losing streak right after getting promoted really sucks.

For some reason I read this as "Poros should be removed completely" and internally screamed.

The ELO system entirely should be removed. Using a method used for single people in a chess tournament doesn't make sense to use in a team game. There should be individual points for teamfighting, CSing, not having a shit ton of deaths, etc. (depending on role of course).

Riot mentioned that they might make it so that if you are in promos for a division you have already be in, you would start with 1 win already. Would be nice seeing as its super easy to lose a division and annoying as hell to get back up

Promos are supposed to be games where players can showcase their mechanical skill and prove to the system that they've gotten better at the game and that they deserve to play with and against players of the said skill level. Nowadays, promos are more "lord have mercy I will be good for the rest of the year just don't give me trolls please amen" than "hey guys look I can combo and cs reaaaal good."

It's not about the system that's ridiculous. What we need to change are the players, or, more specifically, those who behave badly and troll once they know someone is in their promos.

Honestly, I think LoL should emulate the Smite ranking system. They have this thing called True Skill which accounts for how well the player did that game including how well the team did that game. Right now, the league system only accounts for how well the team did, which is flawed, because you climb as an individual player, not a team, unless you're in ranked 5v5.

League should use this current system only on Ranked Teams and implement a better one for Solo Queue.

Just my two cents.

It is an excellent 2 cents sir and makes several valid and important points! Thank you for sharing this insight with us! Have a +1.

My personal opinion is that Champion mastery needs to become rolled into the ranking system (as was my initial proposal almost 3 and a half years ago. I'm actually pretty stoked to have champion mastery, its almost verbatim what I described in that post, right down to measuring the score weighed against the position played and the average for that champion in that role across all levels) and that this would help it to function a lot like Smite's True skill. The premise would be that in order to prevent abuse of the system wins and losses still need to account for the bulk of skill determination. If you are more skilled you should win. Plain and simple. But additionally if we used champion master scores to inflate or deflate MMR and LP gains based on personal performance then players who perform very well in a loss will still lose LP and MMR, but lose a whole lot less. Players who perform poorly in a win and get carried would still gain LP and MMR, but gain a whole lot less. The gains and losses would more accurately reflect a players performance in game and players would achieve an accurate skill ranking far more quickly and with a greater degree of accuracy as well. And the possibility of abusing personal performance would be limited, sure you could try to up that creep score/KDA/ward score/objective control score instead of helping the team win, but you are still going to lose LP and MMR when your greed causes you to lose. It will be better to do those things as a natural effort of playing the game to win it since you will advance that way far more quickly. That was my 2 cents back in 2012, and I thank you heartily for sharing yours!

I'm not sure I'm reading this right, but if I play a Mastery Rank 1 Talon and do badly on him, I will lose more LP than my Mastery 3 Malphite ? Or is it if I do well on a Mastery 1 Annie I'll get less LP than my Mastery 3 Veigar ?

I play this game mostly casually with some intention on getting to Silver by the end of the season, but I mostly play what I feel like. None of my champions have made it to Mastery 4 yet, and I don't think Mastery should be tied into the system because it's either

  1. Balanced against the players that want to main a specific champion, or
  2. Balanced against the players that like switching Champions or play multiple roles

A Mastery Tie-in would make the system inherently unfair.

Actually, the master tie in would be inherently more fair. It's only your confusion about my statement because I was not clear with it that makes it seem less than ideal. Allow me to explain.

The mastery level of the champion you play has no effect on your ranking. None.

The mastery score and rating you receive in the end game lobby would in my proposed change. If you play Talon in a win and get an S+ rating for the game (This is usually achieved by having good CS totals, KDA, objective control and towers taken since they are weighed more heavily for that champ when played in his standard role of mid) that S+ rating would show a high degree of skill. The win confirms it. So instead of getting 22 LP with an average MMR for the division your are in you would get, say 35 LP and your MMR gain (say it was at 1400 and would be bumped to 1435 after the match under the current system) would likewise reflect that high degree of skill and you would get bonus MMR and bump up to say, 1470.

Conversely, lets say you play him in a win where you receive a D rating for whatever reason (played badly and fed despite best efforts, or afked due to some reason and missed half the match). In this example you would still gain some LP and some MMR. But that gain would be modified due to the fact that you displayed a low level of skill and or effort. Instead of +22 LP you would get only +10. Instead of bumping from 1400 MMR to 1435 you would bump to 1425. This would more accurately rank players according to the skill they displayed. It would work the same for losses. An S rating in a loss would mean you don't lose too much LP or MMR and you will feel less disgruntled about being unable to win a match your teammates didn't want to work together in. This proposal helps solo Q dramatically by reducing the amount of stress one feel from playing in games while simultaneously performing the function of ranking players more accurately and more appropriately.

Promos are the games where you get trolls 100% of the time. Till this day and ive been playing this for 5 years I have never gone through a single promo where someone isn't specifically trying to troll.

It's almost as if they look at your history to see if anyone is on their promos. That or Riot purposely throws trolls in the mix to see if you are worthy lmao!

One thing is for sure promos are absolutely terrible.

It's far too luck based and makes me feel hopeless. Check my match history. At some point I won every non-promo game and lost every non-promo game for about 15 games straight. Then you can look at the games I lost and you'll see that even when I did go negative KDA, my teammates did far worse, and I had to put up with shit like Azir and Teemo support, and AP Ezreals that didn't realize runeglaive is no longer useful for mid laners.

RP Tzuyu2 votes

to be honest i don't mind doing promotions, lol i do mind player behavior, and end game REPORT is ABSOLUTELY USELESS, if RIOT invested so much in END GAME GIFTING, they should get some works done with the REPORT, why can't we just have a player behavior in champ selections, like when we get to the champions selection, it tells the player behavior statues, as AFK, TOXIC, FEEDING, unSKILLED, DODGING, so that we can be prepared to not try hard to carry and give up right off the bat...

DorkunedAuras2 votes

I think a Rioter said at some point that they were going to do some changes to the promos concept between seasons, just that they can't really do anything mid season, especially so late into the season. One idea they threw out is that if you fail a promos you start the next promos with 1 win, so you have to simply get 1 win. It's not ideal, but it's a thing. Not sure if they will remove promos entirely I will say.

Stephenizgod2 votes

It should work like this: You are at, lets say 89 LP Gold 5. You win and you are gaining 20 LP per win. That would put you at 109 LP. So at 100 LP you play one match to go up to the next Division. You win and gain 20 LP this time putting you at 29 LP Gold 4 (the 9 leftover from the previous win plus the 20 for winning the pseudo-promo).
Ok lets say same scenario but you lose the pseudo-promo. Instead of losing LP you lose the 9 bonus LP and have to play another psuedo-promo. If you win this one, you are at 20 LP Gold 4. If you lose you now lose LP as normal and have to win back to the pseudo-promo.

This way even if you lose 2 promos you can still progress if you have a higher than 50% winrate because your LP loss should only be around 10-12 but you are still gaining 18-20 LP. You will enter into the next division with the LP you earned through winning, so your only real loss will be a few LP and having to play a few extra games.
