Storm's Edge - If you are not attacking for X seconds next basic attack 50 +% Attack Speed as bonus damage Unique – Storm's Edge and Critical Strikes grands attack speed

I was excited about the crit version of the item but right now on PBE it seems like a very messed up design and it doesn't make any sense at all. So the item itself asks you to stop attacking to get damage that scales with attack speed. But the bonus attack speed comes after you do the damage so at the end you will never be able to benefit from the attack speed as a bonus damage so whats the damn point?

Here's something that would make more sense

**Every 3 seconds your next basic attack does 50 + % attack speed as bonus damage **

or lets say

Each seconds and each basic attack you gain Storm Edge stack. At 5 stacks next basic attack does damage increased with attack speed

Now this will make much more sense and it synchronize with itself and other attack speed items otherwise I don't see how you can utilize this item at all.

The point of the item is to burst. It's supposed to be an alternative to the DPS that ADCs currently use.

Then why does the burst item provide like 70% attack speed?

The item is primarily mean to be built on Jhin. Attack speed gives Jhin AD for burst, not DPS.

By giving it AS and making it trigger off crits (which Jhin gets for free without building crit) Jhin can use the item to burst without it being poached by assassins (if it just gave raw AD assassins would use it)

I highly doubt they designed this item only for Jhin. If they did, Riot really has lost touch. Jhin's still using Guinsoo and it's working out fine for him, without the conditional damage that stormrazor provides

Jhin is a champion that simply cannot increase his attack speed and deals less damage with every crit. When Riot breaks the rules of a class for a champion, they have to build new items specifically for that champion. It makes sense. Despite all of their attempts to make Jhin synergize with crit, he's been dependent on lethality since it was introduced. He simply doesn't function well in a DPS fight because of his attack speed cap. So he needs AD burst items, and they're giving him one that doesn't change the way assassins build.

I think what we need is like a BloodThirster with attackspeed. because BOTRK used to be good in any scenario, which it should not have been. as it's meant to counter tanks. item 2140 also does not offer AS either. So if you want lifesteal and attackspeed it can be rough.

Other thing is Keystones also should play a role in helping to calibrate the different Kits available. Like maybe a keystone could convert 8% crit chance into attackspeed once you have a certain amount.

The item is a piece of fucking shit now. This shit ass design is as pathetic as giving an item that "grants 75% attack speed for 3 seconds and puts your champion in stasis for that same amount of time"—in other words FUCKING. USELESS.

oh. forgot riot has a strict anti-fun policy. no full ad darius. feelsbadman.

I would be very surprised if this didn't involve full AD. Or AP. It frankly depends on his mood.

Kind of doesn't make sense.

You can tell the idea is for marksmen to poke with it back off, then swing back around for more poke. It's suppose to help poke adcs.

The problem is you're forcing it to scale with attack speed. Well, not all poke adcs build lots of attack speed. Some want to build lethality.

Also, the passive attack speed amp that scales with critical strike is only going to benefit non-poke adcs. Which defeats the purpose of the item.

This entire design is going in two different directions. Do you want us to hit and run, or do you want us to commit to a fight after we proc the passive?

Because everyone on the boards were crying about the guaranteed crit was buffing the assassins

Get rid of the first passive, give it 20% Crit chance. Give it the old passive of +30% attack speed+8% movespeed on Crit. Then it can be an alternative to IE instead of just an extension. Fixed!

The item has no identity. At first you would think it's a burst item, but then you see it gives stacking attack speed on it's second passive...so it favors long fights?

When is this item even supposed to be built?

  • Not first since it has worse stats compared to better rush items
  • Not 2nd or 3rd because it has no crit on it's own
  • With the change to Last Whisper, that item is now a necessity so it's not a 4th item buy
  • Has no innate lifesteal so it's not being built 6th
  • The movement speed was removed so it's not even a viable late game option to sell boots for

The only place for it is truly 3rd replacing a second zeal item, but 100% crit is so much more valuable than this item, and buying it for the extended fight passive is just buying a slightly worse Rageblade.

This item is designed for melee carries, not sure what the confusion is about. They are going to be kited and this item compensates some dps loss with the burst. Yasuo "its my blade lul" The removal of guaranteed crit feels bad though but is more balanced and fair this way.

I feel they've made v2 to work with the new keyrune hail of blades, both are now suited to burst via a few auto attacks.

From that perspective the item is interesting enough, its just a dofferent direction to the original design.

First problem I see is that v1 guaranteed crit was actually a really cool item, makes v2 look worse

Second problem is hoe similiar v1 was to duskblade, and how theyd be too good togther.

Id actually be quite happy if duskblade changed to be closer to v1 stormrazor. Duskblade is bought for cheese builds and assassins who can actually hit and run. But stomrazor v1 seemed like a far more interesting item to play with, its something that would have been bought on way more champions.

The guaranteed crit and the attack speed buff of the first iteration were independent (beyond just getting one stack). They served two different purposes, with the 100% crit chance being early game power to normalize the low chance crit payouts of previous seasons, and the stacking attack speed buff took over and made it a decent late game item even at high crit chance.

This version does essentially the same exact thing, but makes a "pseudocrit" that is only going to maintain late game damage when used by the target champ pool (those building zeal items, and getting decent attack speed) so assassins can't exploit it. Otherwise it follows almost the same pattern, with some fluctuation on the damage curve and being in addition to crit damage late game.

It may not be eloquent, but it doesn't need to combine the two passives outside of kiting/reengaging scenarios.
