Theorycrafting: Which seals are better for ADCs? Flat HP or Flat AR?

My brother likes using flat HP seals as ADCs because 72 extra health at level 1 can be a big difference, especially against supports who typically do magic damage. But as we all know, armor seals are reliable at all stages of the game.

Any thoughts?

diamond adc main here, alot of people can do the math for the opinion vs the two. It's really all preference, and comes with how you play. If you usually want to all in early and trade hard, you'd be better off with flat hp since they can only do so little damage early game with such low ad you will be able to take more autos before they back. But if you dont really utilize the hp advantadge early, if you both back and buy a pickaxe/bf sword, you will start getting chunked much harder than you usually would ;p. IMO what I think is the best setup to use if you want hp on ADC, prob shouldnt spill the beans most plat and under dont even know what rune pages are good but you can run

9x flat ad marks

9x flat hp seals

2x ASPD quints

1x armor quint

5x MR Blues

4x Armor blues OR aspd

thats probably the best setup you can get if you want to run hp on an ADC. If you really want that little bit of extra aspd which really wouldnt make that much of a diffrence from 9% to 11% you can run it, or since you only have 4.3 armor from the quint you can runarmor blues and get 7.1 armor. All preference.

Hope that helps, ignore the nitty gritty math, you have to test things for yourself in game. With math, vayne technically does more dps with a PD +berserks greaves first item than if she had botk. Would you build PD first on vayne ? you see the point, gl theorycrafting.

I believe that mathematically speaking, every armor point increases your effective health by 1% against physical damage. Although armor seems to scale non-linearly in a decreasing pattern, it evens out since a 1% increase in damage reduction with a theoretical 90% already under your belt means you actually take 10% less damage from that 1%. While a 1% on top of 0% mitigation just means that you can take 1% more damage. This is confirmed by the mitigation value of 50% at 100 armor, and 75% at 400 armor.

From this perspective, armor runes is far better than health runes fairly early in the game. One armor seal gives 1 armor and 1 health seal gives 8 health. This means that a health seal is more effective before you reach 800 health, and less effective after; that is around level 6.

Another worthwhile factor is health regen. If a champion has high base regen or life steal, armor seals are far more beneficial since technically, more effective health will be gained with higher armor.

With this, we can conclude that health seals should only be taken to help pre-6 laning or if the enemy is not AD. There are other, better scaling seals than the armor ones, but flat health is not one of them.

Edit: For ADCs, armor is almost always the better option. Most ADCs starts off with low base damage so you will not need the health early; as well, ADCs rarely build defensive items until mid game, the 8 armor will be very useful.

I feel like Darth has read about this, but understood it wrong.

He is correct that 1 armor is 1% hp tho, so yes at 800 health is when Armor runes are strictly better

but here is the thing, it is 800 health, but it is NOT 800 hp. What I mean is, if you have gone thru effectively 800 health, from using potions, regen or lifesteal. Then Armor runes are superior.

Honestly, Flat HP runes are pretty garbage, I personally suggest scaling HP runes over flat ones By level 6 Scaling HP surpasses Flat HP, so as long as you don't die before level 6 Scaling HP should even beat flat armor

At level 18 its 9 Armor vs 215 hp

Oh and Scaling Armor is fine too, Again overtaking at level 6~7 and provides 3x more armor at 18

I would hardcore suggest flat armor on Junglers since their 1~7 is their most important levels, that require the most amount of survivability possible. On ADC it is SLIGHTLY less important, and it is very important to have a solid amount of survivability all game long.

HP seals are better for all-ins.

Armor seals are better for long duration lanes, especially if your side has sustain.

Don't forget about the hp/level seals, they're quite good.
