I think the next rework/update needs to be for hitboxes

Hitboxes such as...

(Q) Morgana (Q) Thresh (Q) Blitzcrank (Q) Lux (W) Kaisa (E) Leblanc (Q) Zilean (Q) Ezreal

It feels that as if there's some sort of code in-game that if you side-step the skillshot even by just a small amount the ability will just lock itself on you. I can say that this happens occasionally when facing all of the above.

There needs to be some sort of update to the ability indicator of how big the radius/hitbox of the ability truely is because as of right now it's not accurate and it's misleading. One more issue that I found is that some abilities go through minions (acting like Lux Q) and this happens with Thresh Q (it happened twice to me).

One example of a misleading hitbox

https://streamable.com/324ri

##(Btw sorry for the bad quality, the league spectator doesn't record in full 1080p even if the graphics settings are set to the highest)

Notice how the shadow and the ability visual itself are pointing to 2 complete different directions. So it seems that if you get hit by the ability visual itself or the shadow of that ability you will get hooked regardless.

I would of found more examples for each of the champions I mentioned above but only a limited amount of my match history games can be replayed for me to record further footage.

Riot fixing hitboxes? Are you high or something? Riot is too busy destroying the game (and reworking ryze).

lol true.

Imo, Yi really needs a rework. He's just...unsatisfying? Repetitive? Stale? Lackluster? I dunno, since this is coming from a silver, but I find Yi really unappealing to play or play against. I don't even like seeing him on my team.

Yes please

Also fix:

Fizz (R) , Ezreal (Q), Jhin (W,R), LeeSin (Q), Xerath (literally every ability). Amumu (Q), Syndra (E). The list goes on but these are the biggest for me in addition to the ones you mentioned.

BLIGHTBRINGER2 votes

Yeah those too, I will add them to the list once I get home lol. (Out atm)

Definitely agree with Ezreal's Q. I swear a combination of hitbox and particle affects make the skillshot weird as hell to dodge. :/

Daunt1 votes

What's wrong with Syndra's E?

SeaChange1 votes

Xerath is the worst. His W and R are fine, but his Q and E are BS.

Baron Barian10 votes

Yeah, I kind of want this for Fizz's ult. That needs to be a fatter lure being thrown if the hit radius is that big.

Targon10 votes

Lux R is the worst offender. There have been times where my R shouldn't have hit and it did, and there have been times when my ult clearly hit an enemy and it didn't.

A lot of under-the-hood systems could use update. Including:

  • Hitboxes
  • Priority (Seems like whatever goes second always wins. Not a great design)
  • AI Control
  • Placements (Items, wards, skills, etc)

A bunch of small things that'd help out in big ways.

My Waifu Vanilla1 votes

Priority also depends entirely on the ability. Gragas E wins literally every time no matter what ability you use or when you use it. Another is generally both parts of Camille's E whether it is the pull (which imho should NEVER go off if you get CC'ed at all) or the knockback of the second hit. I shouldn't have to cross my fingers that my reactive gap closer is going to actually do something to the person coming towards me.

Don't forget Zilean Q. It's hilarious how many clocks I've cheesed with that ability.

As a Tier 7 Zil Main:

Yes pls thanks

Bârd3 votes

When Zilean's rework was launched, it used center targeting.

Because of this, the bombs had an insanely broken hitbox... in that you couldn't ever get them to latch correctly.

Zilean was completely unplayable for most of season 5. Half the reason I main Bard is that I was a Zilean main forced to play something else after the rework left Zilean in a completely broken state.

The change to make his Q use edge targeting brought Zilean back from the dead.

Zilean's Q hitbox might be a little wonky, but I'd rather have something be a little wonky than complete unusable.

How has no one said Irelia E yet?? The particle is only a few pixels wide, yet it will hit any champ within a 10 stack cho of the particle

I'm pretty sure its the opposite. Irelias stun has like the smallest hitbox in the game imo. A lot of the time it 100% hits the target visually, but then ends up not hitting them somehow. I don't think i've ever seen it hit a target that it definitely shouldn't have hit.

i will agree on that, i thought it was busted when i saw it too lol. but thats personally never happened to me in game ever.

Ok sure but why5 votes

If you hover your cursor over the Practice Dummy in training mode, you can see a rather massive area around the actual dummy that would result in you attacking the dummy if you were to right-click

That's their problem, and it should be an easy fix

Cowgirl Ed3 votes

It is not a problem, it has been like that for ages If they were to fix the hitboxes (which are not broken, they work as intended), that would change A LOT of how we feel the game Yes it sucks when the graphics doesn't show what we expect

Is that the same reasoning for why they haven’t fixed minion block?

VaskePower1 votes

Minion block is not problem or bug. If they actually remove it phantom dancer's passive, alistar's e (I forget what ability, if it is right clap me) and much more things will be useless. Z3Sleeper3 votes

Not asking for minion block removal, asking for wonky situation removal such as minion lock and complete route blockage despite obvious visual gaps existing between impassible minion walls.

Zerenza3 votes

It's because of Perspective, remember that league isn't a fully top/down game, it's more of were watching from a certain side while looking down at an angle. This means that if you try to hit a skillshot on the bottom and right side of your screen, there is a much higher chance you'll miss it, if you aim above a character, the hitbox actually extends much further than you'd think towards that direction, resulting in a clean hit even if it doesn't look that way.

CithriaC5 votes

All skillshots in the game, at the end of their range, get a little bulge of range around them, its not too much, but combined with the fact that hitboxes start at the feet, makes some crazy looking hits.

Snowman Arc5 votes

Thresh Q and Lux Q and R are like the worst cases of bullshit hitboxes I've seen.

LittleOak4 votes

Warwick R needs to be bigger. If you watch the animation in slow motion, his arms will pass right through enemies and it won't hit. It's actually stupid. There have been way too many ults that should hit that just don't because the skill shot is thinner than his actual body.

BakedLotion4 votes

Morg is mostly accurate though? They fixed it already.

Don't forget nidalee bois. All those clips of spears going directly through people and not hitting for some reason, despite other spears hitting you after clearly missing you.

This one drives me crazy. Why bother having this thing on the ground if I can be outside of it and still hit. I understand that there is a circle around our character that is the hitbox, but I know there are times I've been way outside of it and still been hit.

As a Sion main , I've learned to avoid using it as much as i can as it is very unpredictable. Sometimes they'll be completely out of range and still be knocked up, other times they are right smack dab in the middle of the ability, and won't be knocked up.

I Love Thresh3 votes

A lot of the time, the problem isn't with the hitboxes as much as with the accuracy of the VFXs imo. I'm more ready to accept the hitboxes as being what should be accurate than the VFXs.

C9 Squeeky 1 votes

there was a minion clearly in between her & thresh, either way it shouldn't have hooked soraka

Leetri2 votes

Soraka's hitbox might extend beyond the minion, meaning that there was nothing between her and the hook. I believe when you hold the spacebar there's a circle under your champion, that's your hitbox and it's a fair bit larger than the model.

big boi edri3 votes

Surprised not more people mentioned Blitzcrank Q. I’ve flashed and sidestepped, the hook clearly extends beside me, and I still get hooked.

Charm With parm2 votes

Dont forget Fizz R Nautilus Q and Leona E possibly the worst three hitboxes in game

OneLonelyPickle2 votes

I can't agree MORE with the OP. The main thing I cry about in-game when I get rekt is the hitbox of the skillshot that snatches or hits me. EZRAEL'S ABILITIES ALMOST NEVER ACTUALLY HIT ME, BUT THE HITBOX DOES! ARGGGH!

giantZorg2 votes

Add Nautilus Q to the list, this one is really messy. I once tried it out in the practice tool, the hook indicator is accurate against terrain, but against champions you only have to touch (I guess, not quite sure) the outer champion model box, which increases the effective range by what, 50-100 units depending on champion? I've hit so many hooks where I thought to myself how bs that was.

GhaelWinds1 votes

There's nothing wrong with hitboxes in the game. Honestly I've never really seen an ability hit that I've wanted to dispute. The hitbox =/= the animation. Learn to see hitboxes and not just what's blatantly in front of you.

NepgearDesu11 votes

Yeah, because when someone took the trouble to model a flail, animate it and make it look like it hooks the character it visually hits, it is safe to assume that this was just for every player to appreciate how they don't match the actual ability's hitbox. Why would want to make something visual and seen anyway? I can play LoL in command lines, the graphics don't matter. Learn to do so, too, rather than rely on what's blatantly in front of you.

What's the whole point of calling this a "video" game anyway?

The animations are there for thematic and gameplay. The gameplay part is that it shows where the hitbox starts. If all hitboxes are circles (well most) and you need a linear hook then there will be places that the hitbox is larger than the animation. It's part of game knowledge to be able to see all hitboxes and know how they'll interact.

So a couple of things to note,

  1. Hitboxes for a lot of projectile spell are rectangular, think of velkoz's w indicator. The issue often actually comes up not because hitboxes are circular but because they're rectangular they stretch out in a weird way.

  2. You literally can't see hitboxes. If you've learned to see hitboxes as you claim, you must have first been scripting in order to have visual representation of hitboxes.

  3. What does the sentence, "The animations are there for thematic and gameplay." even mean? Animations are supposed to be visual representations of what's happening under the metaphorical hood. If the animation and the hitboxes don't match up because the way things are presented one of the two needs to be enlarged or shrunk. Normally, you'd shrink the hitbox to match the animation because people expect the animation because that's what they can see.

  4. Even if you were trying to make a line out of a circle, which they aren't, you don't have to make it so the hitboxes are larger than the animations. If you matched the diameter of your circular hitbox and the width of your rectangle as long as your circle is moving within the rectangle you'd have a linear skillshot that matches animation. In theory it wouldn't be perfectly rectangular but you don't have to overstretch it.

  2. It's called experience. Play the game long enough and pay attention to what s happening and you will find the patterns and be able to see the hitbox of all abilities.

  3. In theory yea. The argument we should be having is if increasing the size of abilities to match would be the best course of action.

Does this mean I'm allowed to use scripts so I can see hitboxes? I mean that's literally the only way you can "see" hitboxes. I mean imagine us using our primitive eyesight to attempt to dodge something...pffft how silly of me.

Honestly? Yes. How silly of you to trust the vfx that you yourself say are wrong. Don't trust what you see and just look at the actual hitbox. It's not scripting it's just experience.

50CaliberHecate1 votes

Just a note in regards to blitz and thresh hitboxes, they are suppose to do that. Riot already has went over this topic in the past. They have a hitbox different than everyone elses. What it does is it shoots out in a straight line like say for instance, lux q, but at the end of the hitbox, it blooms out like a flower. If anyone is caught in this bloom, it of course hooks them. I can understand that as fair tbh, cause with how thin the animation is, it would be almost impossible to hit. Now the one hitbox in all of the game, that is completely out of player favor is Ahri (E). I've ALREADY made numerous amounts of threads in the bug thread to get her shit fixed, I've posted SEVERAL videos displaying the inaccurate hitbox it has, and yet riot just ignored me. I don't play her anymore cause' of this (and her update, which was seriously uncalled for).
