Matchmaking Derp

Hi, I'm Silver II, and I suck at this game, PARTICULARLY when I'm matched against Diamond opponents. Seriously, this game, I was playing Hecarim, and I was matched against a Diamond 5 Dr. Mundo. Can you guess what happened? I got stomped on. It seems like common sense that a Diamond player would destroy a Silver player, so why did I have to go through this in the first place? Even though this wasn't ranked, I still feel I should have been matched with other Silvers (or people close to the skill of Silvers). Instead, I got matched against a Diamond, and like I said, I totally fed. I went 0/7/0. No kills. The only reason I wasn't flamed to death was that I was playing with a friendly group of people (this NEVER happens to me) and one of them looked him/her up and told me they were Diamond. I worry about this situation happening to others, like it did to me when I was grinding to 30. Just 2 duo-queueing smurfs can totally take all of the fun out of the game. Think about it, would you want to play vs other players, if all that happened to you was just getting stomped on by smurfs, while you're still learning the game? Does this kind of thing happen often? Was this just a derp by the matchmaking system? I would MUCH rather wait a few extra minutes to have a fair game against people my skill than wait 14 seconds to be matched against a Diamond.
