One of the hopeful benefits of "One for All"
Having studied Media for a few years in college has led me to look beyond what is presented in media. I have applied this to many of League's one-off modes.
In Doom Bots, it was made to make the players feel a complete role-reversal:
- All the bots had cooler skins than you.
- They knew their skillshots better than you.
- They laughed at you when you whiffed a skillshot or landed one of their own.
- They made you feel completely inferior to them.
- They taunted you at the beginning of the game and at the end. (More provocatively than they do now)
- They would even take dragon when there was nothing you could do to stop them.
That was one of the cool things I feel a lot of people have missed from Doom bots and am very excited to have them show up again .
What I am hoping players will learn from "One for All" is the pointlessness of the meta and how easily it can be shifted if you played your cards right. I am the type of player who likes to fight against the meta and pick weird champs. For instance, I had an all Soraka team versus an all Azir team. An often laughed at support versus one of the most popular mid-laners currently. We were destroying them until we started getting cocky and started throwing the game enough to lose. You could argue "Oh, well you had two bot laners and two top laners that could heal one another!" But I was focusing my theory on the mid lane, where there is no one but a solo Soraka versus a solo Azir. The same could have been said against the all Yorick team versus the all Yasuo team I had afterwards. Meta vs non-meta.
I had another game where we had an all Urgot team versus an all Kindred team. One thing I enjoyed the most of that game was that my team had never played Urgot, I was the only one who had experience playing him. My team kept calling out how cool Urgot was and how fun it was to play him! It made me happy that he got SOME shine in the limelight.
What I am hoping summoners will learn from this game mode is to try something new and not completely go with what the pros are playing strictly because the pros are playing it. A quote I could use to sum up: "Just because it is popular, it does not mean it is better."
So I encourage you, fellow summoners, try playing new things, you lose no LP, you lose none of your "precious" MMR. Play the game for the purpose it exists, for fun!
