A Karthus Main's Thoughs on Edge of Night

What. The. Fuck. As a Karthus main, I am so sad that this item is being made. A 30 second cooldown!? Are you serious? Every adc, ad assassin, and ad bruiser can build this item to fuck Karthus up for the rest of the game. Hourglass is annoying to fight against, but it has a long cool down and stops them from doing anything else as well. With this however, EVERY time he has his ult up they will have a spell shield ready. I **SERIOUSLY **hope that Riot looks very hard at how this item affects champions like Karthus and Ziggs. Both of their ults are telegraphed, delayed, and can be blocked by spell shields. Hell, even Nautilus might be screwed over by this depending on how far away his target is. This item, on paper at least, looks incredibly unfair to them. Fortunately, this is just the PBE, and changes can still happen to it if it does prove to be unfair.

Now, if you want to give an offensive item a spell shield, fine. I'm ok with that. Unless the item proves to be IMPOSSIBLE to balance somehow, it shouldn't just be thrown out because it makes life more difficult for a few champions. But please, consider making it a passive ability instead of an active, it allows for Karthus, or whoever the person who built Edge of Night is fighting against, to have a chance to be able to do something about the item themselves. It will still give an insane boost to trading power for the person who built the item, since spell shields are incredibly powerful, but it can't be saved for the sole purpose of fucking someone over by blocking an ultimate with a SUPER long cool down. If the cool down happens to come off and block a Karthus ultimate, then that would be unfortunate, but stuff happens, and he might get them them next time. If it remains as an active effect, then the Karthus ultimate will be blocked every time that its used. If for whatever reason this isn't what Riot wants to do with the item, then some other ideas may be to increase the cool down, or to lower its ad (same reasons ap on item 3157 was lowered in mage update, it's an incredibly strong defensive active, it shouldn't have a lot of damage to back it up as well.)

The cooldown should be at LEAST 60 seconds, if not 90.

It should be like a mini Morgana shield, so that it can block a small/medium amount so large chunks of damage don't get nullified. It'll block spell effects but not massive nukes like Karthus ult

It simply needs to he removed. The assassin update is meant for healthy gameplay and counterplay for assassins. Now they xan rush this item, use it and dive someone, eat their opposing laners single cc ability, and kill them.

More items following this trend shows how much of an update Karthus needs. Riot missed their chance for buffing him during the mage update and the more champions/items they add the less impactful he becomes overall

I don't think this will hurt Karthus much. 75% + his ult is used to secure low hp kills, and most low hp targets will have been in dangerous combat (and thusly have used it already) in the last 30s. Just my rational.

Correct me if I'm wrong since I'm not a Karthus player, but the way I see EoN interacting with Karthus in the general sense is that he won't commonly feel the effects of it except with his ultimate. If, say, Talon uses Edge of Night to engage on you, you get to repeatedly cast Lay Waste, and the spell shield doesn't block a whole lot of damage due to Karthus having a spammable damage spell and no hard CC. If he wants to use the active to block a Requiem, then it's possible he just dies to your basic abilities.

But then you look at someone like Lux. She has a lot of damage packed into 3 spells, and blocking 1 spell cripples her damage output and can possibly prevent her from dealing relevant damage to the assassin that's engaging on her. Even though Karthus's ultimate is so much more telegraphed than anything Lux has, it doesn't even need to be telegraphed to be used that way.

I honestly don't think Edge of Night needs to be nerfed for the sake of Karthus as a result. It just needs to be nerfed for the sake of EVERY AP champion since the only way that most AP champions would actually be able to deal with a spell-shielded assassin is if they can bully the assassin in lane, have easy access to a spell that pops the spell shield without sacrificing much damage, or have the mobility to disegage on reaction to the assassin channeling this item.

As a side note, I don't think Nautilus would get hurt much by this item. Speaking as a Nautilus main, you can't activate the spell shield on reaction to a Q, and Nautilus has a low-cost tool to pop the spell shield. In general, it's really hard to find tanks that get hit that hard by the spell shield because most tanks' engage tools happen in less than 1.5 seconds and either have a spell that pops the spell shield for a relatively low cost or have two hard CC spells that they could use the peel the assassin in question off of the carries.

Other - Increase the channel time to 3 seconds. You can specifically channel this ability while moving, it's meant to help you set up ganks and picks. So just make it three seconds so if you see Requiem coming down on you it's too late.

I really don't see how this affects karthus more than anyone else. This to me would really screw the likes of xerath and brand, since they dont have such spammable spells and rely more on high damage single spells and combos. I do wish that this item didn't let you move during the channel though. This would give mages a short window to land a q, or make it more obvious when they are about to jump in. If the issue is with the ult, they could give it 1 dps during the windup that would preven them from channeling.

Make a range limit, "It blocks any abilities from within X range".

Very few champs have extremely long range abilities while being considered anti engage (this is an anti anti engage item) anyway

They should make it like:

Active: Channel for 1.5.-2 seconds. Once fully channeled, the target is protected by a spell shield that blocks the first crowd control effect that hits them. This spell shield does not block damage or spells, but will fully prevent most soft cc (you don't need a slow popping that shield unless you're running away, I guess) and all hard CC. The spell shield lasts for 3 seconds and has a 60 second cool down. Taking damage will stop the channel.

We already have passive spellshield in BV and its Terrible and almost no one builds it. If you know they have that item then don't ult to kill people with it. How do you think malz players feel when almost the whole enemy team buys qss?

Why isn't edge of night a tank item? Or support tank item. 'Carry' champs shouldn't have access to that type of utility. Too hard to balance

I main assassins and even I think the CD needs to go up to 60-90 seconds. As a replacement in terms of M Res with ArPen for Maw, it's alright and situationally, it's very good. But you can so easily proc it by just landing a basic spell on them or by damaging them whilst it channels. I dunno it doesn't seem to OP, or it wouldn't if the active had a longer CD anyway.

Good riddance yes. Fuck karthus and his ultimate. Do you really think that an ultimate that is global and that can be activated while dead for free on a champion that has a load of costant damage is fair?!
