New Viktor Lore, New Freak Out

Once again, everyone is freaking the hell out. Once again, calm the fuck down. This is from JAYCE'S side, NOT from VIKTOR'S. This is naturally going to be written in favor of Jayce and show ONLY his side of the story. We don't know WHY Viktor wanted to solve these problems with humanity's frailty, disease, hatred, and other things in the first place. My personal guess is that people close to him died in Zaun from the same thing that made Orianna get all of the robot enhancements, which we don't know what was caused by, it could have been chem barons fighting for territory, gang activity, or anything else that would have naturally made Viktor hate human nature due to the catastrophic results of their actions. But that's just a guess. We don't know what Viktor was up to in the months between Jayce personally ensuring that he was thrown out of the scientific community and him coming back to plead for Jayce's help in doing something that he truly thought was good for humanity. And most importantly WE DON'T KNOW THAT VIKTOR KILLED THOSE PEOPLE SEEN IN JAYCE'S LORE. Just look back to the Glorious Evolved in "The Weakest Heart" story. Viktor has FOLLOWERS, yes, the Glorious Evolved have been confirmed by Riot to completely misunderstand Viktor's ideas and are trying to make the Glorious Revolution mystical rather than scientific, but the point remains the same, Viktor is not alone in his ideology. These people are WILLINGLY giving up their limbs and augmenting themselves to further advance this cause, and I believe that the same is true of the people that we read about in the new lore. All we saw were their dead former bodies, we didn't see Viktor running up and down Zaun laughing maniacally, twirling a villainous mustache, and kidnapping them to advance his evolution. I think that these may have been like minded people who fully believed in Viktor's ideas and willingly accepted the revolution that he was starting.

Similar example, look at Garen and Urgot's lore. From Garen's point of view, he was doing a just and righteous thing by cleaving Urgot in half, as he was saving the life of his prince and his friend. From Urgot's point of view, he was just doing his fucking job as the executioner, executing a man that he had probably been fighting against most of his military career and who in turn was fighting to destroy his country, and then some spinning psychopath came out of nowhere and cut his legs off. If we only have Garen and Jarvan's lore, then Urgot looks like a complete monster for trying to kill J4, and Garen looks like the hero. If we only have Urgot's lore, then Garen and Jarvan can only be seen as the bad guys, fighting to destroy his home, and then killing him when he was about to have the greatest honor in his life. But put both of them together, and you have a complete story that doesn't necessarily favor either side. (While I personally think that Garen and J4 are the good guys in this situation, you can NOT seriously tell me that they wouldn't jump at the chance to execute Darius or Swain the same way that Urgot was going to Jarvan. Neither side is fully in the wrong or the right, and both would do the same thing that they vilify the other for doing if their positions were reversed.)

But back to the Viktor point. Everyone keeps saying "He's a GRAY character, not a villain!" Well guess what, gray characters can still do bad things. Viktor attacked Jayce. Viktor ordered his robo dudes to kill Jayce. While most of the "facts" in the lore are perverted solely because we only get one point of view on them (many of which are based assumptions that Jayce is correct in his thinking mind you), there are several things that definitely happen in there that no matter which side you read it from, are bad things that Viktor does. And guess what. That's ok. You can't have a "gray" character that only does good things. If Viktor was only selflessly trying to advance humanity to a greater peak and was struck down by Jayce, the egotistical jerk who misunderstood his ideas, then he wouldn't be a gray character, he would be a good guy that was wronged. Now, is Riot turning Viktor into a villain? Maybe. I don't think that they are, but that is still their choice if they do so. I really hope that they don't, since gray characters are much better to read about than just a straight up villain and I think it makes for a better character overall, but its still up to them. Is Riot keeping him a gray character that was wronged, but has also done some bad things himself? Maybe. How will we tell? BY WAITING UNTIL HIS OWN DAMN LORE IS RELEASED. Seriously people, chill out. When Viktor's OWN lore releases, we are going to get a different side of things, new facts, reasons behind his actions, and his real methods of how he goes about his Glorious Revolution, THEN we can really determine what Viktor's new lore has made him into. If you dislike the result from that once you have the FULL picture, then go ahead and complain, as turning him into a villain would be a worse choice than keeping him in the gray. But until then, please stop.

Sure we can wait for Viktor's part, but there are several points that won't change. For example him being a Piltovian, not a Zaunite now. Or disregarding the whole evolution of his character. Let me quote The Anagram King on that because he worded it better than I could potentially.

The worst part, is the fanbase KNEW Viktor could be bad one day - maybe even right now - warped ideals and all. But the beauty of what he was, was that he had to evolve to the point where he could be. To become bad, was to progress his story. And his was a beauty:

Viktor BEGAN as naive. As an idealist. He BEGAN as a student; a member of a team. He collaborated to create sentience. To create life. It wasn't until his accomplishments were stolen, that he took it out upon himself. He destroyed his body. He remade his body. He REALISED his potential through the story that framed his character. And in turn realised the potential his vision had for the society that had wronged him.

By contrast, the NEW Viktor was always potentially bad. Always of questionable morality. He did not care for the ideals of a better tomorrow, but he always wanted to turn humans into robots. He never evolved into The Machine Herald - he always was. And the beauty of what made him unique is gone, in favour of a short cut designed to favour the hero sent to stop him.

In the new lore of Jayce, Viktor was born in Piltover... So, your personal guess makes little sense.

Plus is it really a bad thing if viktor is evil? Like i read his old lore and it was like "dude made blitzcrank but didnt get credit, isolated himself out of depression and emerged a robot man who wanted to turn everyone into robots" kind of a drastic leap in my opinion

From the current lore we have a man who has the perspective that the human body is inherently flawed which makes sense from a purely mechanical standpoint, not taking into account the human spirit or free will (things that are not optimizable like the physical body from a mechanical standpoint) it makes sense imo that a guy whose all about fixing all ur flaws with hextech would consider the soul to be a unkowable variable that would best be removed to ensure optimal performance

I like this viktor more IMO (cant stress that enough) no sane man would start turning people into robots and you shouldn'tnt want to sympathize with him, this viktor is clearly missing some key elements of being human (both literally and figuratively)

Im very curious about how he wound up thinking that way tho, my guess is deeo down he always felt thst way about the human exterior but it wasnt till the accident that created the zaun gray and killed his family that validated and amplified those feelings, thats my guess. Evil is born out of extreme cruelty and piltovers crimes against zaun in the name of progress could create some real monsters

Honestly, I think that Jayce is just as gray as viktor, and also deserves jail time.

That being said, I'm glad you're being sane and telling us to calm down.
