Post how to play your main when behind.

Everyone has had games where they get far behind. Whether that's from the enemy jungle camping you, lag, your lane opponent iis secretly Faker on a smurf account, everyone on your team is a potato, or you're just not having a good game, everyone has been there. A lot of times people will tell teamates that are behind to just "play safe." However, one thing that I see a lot is that people don't know HOW to play safe many times, especially in low elo. What makes it harder is that a lot of champions have different playstyles and need to do different things to actually play safe while not just wasting time and being completely useless.

So post how to play your main champion when behind, because there's a lot of people that REALLY need to learn this stuff.

Support main. You're always behind. The only person who doesn't consider you a super minion (on the enemy team) is the other support. (>_>)

Shyvana when behind Shyvana has the fortunate design of still being able to viably build defensive and be useful. Her hard dive onto squishies as an off-tank damage flanker, split push dueling and escape, large DPS to objectives make her plenty viable when behind. You just need measured aggression. You have to weigh your value to the team compared to the targets you can assure you will kill, whether that be towers, dragons or carries.

One tactic is to split push bot while your team is elsewhere, this way when dragon spawns you can solo it while your team focuses on objectives.

Shyvana will win 1v1 vs all but about 10 champions when played right. So if you keep the jungle well warded you can make picks and force summoners, divert attention or make it a 4v5.

When behind your ult is best used as an escape unless you can assure a team fight, vital objective or shut-down.

Use your frightening kill pressure to zone enemies from objectives. Staying present enough to threaten their carries, threaten a smite steal, but far enough to not die for no raisin.

Ashe when behind on Ashe the strategy is simple. Build your CDR, 0erhaps a BC if going Korean style, then focus on your AoE shred and slows. Stay near mid and near allies with strong peel. Use your ult for assured picks or counterengages. No high risk long range ults. Never go to unwarded lands. Let your team be your meat shield, be patient you do not have to make anything happen.

Soraka Leona peel and ward.

Riven similar to Shyvana focus on gold soaking. You cannot build as defensive but you can get some durability through things like GA, Maw, DD and BC. Instead of solo Picks focus on using your fast wave clear to keep waves in enemy lines so your team has more map presence. Save TP for if a fight breaks out without you. DO NOT ENGAGE treat Riven like you would Shyvana. You are a counter engage or followup flanker. Riven will get CC'd and explode in seconds flat if you initiate. Focus on cleaning up the back line only.

#No matter who you play WARD. SOAK GOLD. STAY READY TO ASSIST YOUR TEAM. DON'T GO IN LOW VISION AREAS. FOCUS ON STALLING UNTIL AN OPPORTUNITY ARISES!

Release inner Tryndafarm and basically farm till you start chewing wheat in your mouth IRL. Then start splitpushing and roaming, clear entire enemy JG and pretty much just make them feel your wrath of 200 CS worth of extra gold. Rush Crit (if ur a bonobo who still likes to try and solokill when super behind) and getting Cull is optional.

Rushing Crit is just

item 3086 -->item 3046 then buy item 1018 for first item after PD

Jax There are several ways to catch back up when playing Jax. He has incredible dueling power, a great surprise duel kit, unparalleled hybrid damage, and with Gunblade and some life steal items, he can nearly become a drain tank. Jax also can build almost any item and still benefit, thanks to his versatile kit. These factors add up to many ways to regain ground.

In general, all involve either trying to delay the game or increase your gold income until you reach full build, as Jax has one of the most dangerous late games of any champion, which people often forget (a full build Jax can solo Elder Drake, take lesser drakes and towers in seconds, and is practically invincible in a duel). This usually entails cooperating with your allies to gank a single bulky target, or attempting to instigate a duel with a squishy target on the enemy team.

If you're playing Jax as the Jungler, keep in mind that your E is a devastating tool against any ADC, and certain AD midlaners if you're playing top.

As an aside, Jax is very map rotation oriented.

It allows you to dodge autoattacks, dealing damage based on how many you absorbed, and also stun the enemy champ long enough to let your passive stack up (You can also auto attack while using this ability, even though Jax is busy spinning his lamp above his head). Make sure you have a warding trinket, and pay attention to it.

This ability also reduces AOE damage by 20%, and dodges minion autoattacks, so it can be effectively used against certain tanks and midlane champions with AOE.

Use this tool at the start of ganks on the bottom lane. Either the enemy ADC will run away, and leave you with their minions (thus giving you gold and pushing you closer to full build) or they will stay, and with the help of your bottom duo, an assist or kill is all but Garen teed (which, again, gives you the gold needed to bring you to your powerful end game).

However, say perhaps the enemy has already transitioned to the grouped phase. Remember your warding trinket? Many people forget that Jax's Q can also be used on allies, including wards. By keeping the Jungle well-warded, you not only get better vision and can single out squishy champions more, but you also gain mobility for escapes and ambushes.

Are you getting killed too much? Jax is also surprisingly durable if itemized correctly. Once you hit level six, Jax's ultimate will give you an incredibly high boost to resistances, and can temporarily turn our Grandmaster at arms into a super mobile Juggernaut capable of tangling with the best champions League has to offer. I recommend building damage items with some sort of lifesteal, and also a Spirit Visage if you happen to be fighting a team heavy on magic damage. Hextech Gunblade is almost a must: it provides hybrid damage, spell vamp and life steal, and a great active for initiating fights. Keep in mind, your ultimate's active is based off of AP and AD, not armor and MR, so Gunblade will also serve to make you nigh unkillable during your ultimate. Since Jax is tailored to fighting ADCs, too, Randuin's Omen is a great item, providing an attack speed slow, a slow for enemies, and critical strike reduction! These three items combined with your ultimate turn Jax into an incredibly dangerous bruiser. The downside is that these items cost a lot of gold, and you will have to make sure to farm a great deal to stay on pace to catch up, be it in the Jungle or Lane.

Are you getting blown up in every team fight? That makes sense. Jax is not a teamtighting champion. However, if the enemy is occupied by going everywhere together, you can take advantage of Jax's passive to it's full extent: Jax is a split pushing monster. No, he is not mobile in the map-wide sense unless the jungle is lit up like a Christmas tree (thank you ward jumps), but outside of the ADC class you'd be hard pressed to find champions who can take turrets faster.

Other general Jax-is-behind Tips:

You need to keep your passive stacked to deal your full damage potential, so attack speed is a must. It allows you to stack faster. Also, avoid enemy champions with lots of CC, as they can put an end to your stacks with one good stun or root.

Jax's Leap Strike can be used on allies as well as enemies, so it's a defensive tool as well. If the fight isn't going well, leap to a friendly champion, minion, or ward away from the fight, and run!

If you need a quick burst of damage and the fight is going poorly, your W- Empower will reset your autoattack, thus allowing you to quickly put in two autoattacks (and with enough cool down reduction and attack speed, you can get in almost three per second, thus allowing you to proc your ultimate's passive with incredible efficiency).

I've mained Evelynn for four seasons. Started S5. Then S1. Then G4. Then P4. I'm currently G4 and drunk every day just having fun and "PATIENTLY" awaiting the rework lol.

Anyway, the way to come back from being behind on Evelynn is to build Mobi boots BEFORE jungle item. After that, farm, farm, farm. If you can capitalize on over-extended enemies and get some kills for the team, cool. But mainly focus on farming, or she will be useless.

Aside from that, if they are AD heavy, definitely rush a Frozen Heart when you get a chance.

Best of luck on the rift, Evelynn players!

Swain : Things got a lot easier since RIot gave Swain everything he'll ever need when behind during his oh how amazing rework... sigh... but since being behind tends to happen alot more often now, here's how to:

  • Set up ganks - freeze the wave at all cost even if that means to loose CS + ward because doing so will also allow your opponentn to roam.

  • Playing against anything ungankable: Get CDR and spam Beatrice as often as possible and let your opponent choose - loose tower or dont roam.

  • TF: Don't go for DMG! Peel! Swains DOT nature renders any attemp trying to DMG a carry useless due to their Lifesteal when behind - that's why it's ALWAYS better to peel and zone for your strongest Teammate in such scenarios.

Nidalee i would act like a 2nd support, using my heal and traps and item 1410 to ward.. and throw spears when i could.. or thats what i would do if i had decent teammates who weren't also behind

but sadly the fact is if i get behind it already means we lost.. i don't have the luxury of having many good teammates in my elo right now. so if I'M behind it means the rest of the rest has already fed their ass off and the only reason we haven't lost its its pre 20 and we can't surrender yet

Riven Guage your power, even when behind Riven still does a lot of damage.

DON'T MESS UP. If you can't do that, then don't take risks. If you do decide to trade, DO NOT use all your mobility and leave yourself with no dissengage. If it's someone sticky, don't even go near them, not even for a Q+W+auto. That's 2 less dashes you get for running away, and 1 less stun.

Q clip to farm if you need too, but kinda like above, make sure you always have a dash (or 2) up to get away.

Do not use E to soak poke, if there's danger of being all-in'd, unless you need to or don't plan on using ur Q until it's up again. Even if you do end up using your Q to escape, you can then no longer go near the minions until ur E is up again, and that alone probably isn't even enough.

Do not build defensive (tank items) unless you want to peel (aka if one of your allies is super fed, and if you protect them they will carry) because then, even once you catch up, you won't have the damage to do anything. That being said, Titanic Hydra can be worked, Maw is good if needed, and Cleaver is essential if you're doing badly and need the health to survive (that is, if you weren't planning on buying it in the first place, for whatever reason (maybe full Lethality?)). GA components help too.

In teamfights, peel for your carries and be a secondary source of damage. Your R can be used to pick off low health targets, and unlike some other AoE ults it's damage is not diminished by passing through targets, so feel free to ult through the front line (unless it's a Braum shield or something). Stay near your carries and peel for them with your stun, knock up, and damage, which, combined with your team, seriously threatens any diver who decides to dive onto your carry. Participate in wombo's if possible, but do NOT be the one doing the wombo's unless your entire team is ready to follow up (and there's someone tankier to soak up damage for you) because you will be deleted after your short 1.25 seconds of CC end.

Know your damage. You may still be able to severely injure or oneshot their carries.

Save up for powerspikes - this is a (mostly) tank match up specific tip. Riven can deal with most tanks/juggernauts if played well once she gets Cleaver + DD and perhaps an LW, even when they are ahead. Do note that your ult does very little damage against tanky targets, not nearly as much as it does against squishies.

Freeze lane and farm during the early game. Once laning phase ends, wait for your team to group mid and start splitpushing, while being careful not to use W for waveclear too much as it leaves you without a reliable escape.

Baiting enemies into long chases is also always useful, as it gives your team time to win teamfights and push objectives.

Build defensively. Once you start coming back you should be able to 1v1 squishes still fairly easily with the correct approach to the ult engage.

Illaoi Wait for the rest of your team instead of 1v5ing... sometimes.

junglerboy164/22/2017, 10:04:34 PM2 votes

Sion If laning, freeze under tower and farm up, you are hard to gank unless they send multiple champs to assist, and even then you should have a fair shot at at least trading kills because of your tankiness, CC, and sometimes passive (mainly because people have to be a lot more cautious with tower hits or else risk getting smacked).

If you're jungling, then your best bet is to farm hard and ward up. Krugs and raptors are your best friends since they give you the best HP/camp/time spent ratio because of your AoE. If you really want to power clear and stack up health fast, I'd recommend getting a titanic hydra so you don't have to use as much ability spam to clear, which means you'll have an easier time keeping CDs up and not running out of mana ever.

If it's after lane phase, focus on farm and only fight if your team needs you badly, because a squishy under-fed Sion is not very useful.

MonkeyKing pretty much play safely, don't get risky and if you can't get a lead back whatsoever, build a bit tankier with the exception of a few things here and there ( item 3071, possibly item 3742 if you build that on him normally). A good trick to do if you can is split push another lane as a distraction so the rest of your team can do something else like take dragon or baron or something. If you are really good at juking, you can buy your team all the time in the world.
