Cho is OP, here's why:

  1. His passive allows him to never have to leave lane. With the immense health and mana regen, he's an immovable force.
  2. His Q (which isn't that hard to hit) has a 1:1 AP ratio. That's a large AoE knock-up with a 1:1 AP Ratio. That's Veigar's W, except it CC's your opponents.
  3. A 1.5 to 2.5 second cone silence that stretches past minion waves and straight into your enemy, dealing hefty damage and preventing them from being able to fight back, and removing any character that uses abilities from close-quarters teamfights.
  4. His E gives him up to 80 + 30% AP bonus damage to his auto-attacks that pierce his targets. By building AP, Cho'Gath is making his auto-attacks impossibly powerful as well
  5. 1k True damage nuke to his opponents with only a few AP items, because why not?

Also, Rylai's allows his E to slow his opponents as well. Everyone who's hit by it.

What I think should be done to fix it:

Nerf ChOP'Gath's Q AP damage by 30% and W silence by about a second to a second and a half. In fact, it wouldn't be a horrible idea to just make it a slow, honestly. You can't fight back against the Freelo of The Void, especially if he's building AP. There's no counterplay there. Heck, he can W flash and R enemy AP/ADCs and kill them while they try to run away (but they can't flash or cast spells because of that insane silence + silence damage. If he lands that with Rylai's, he'll get a 100% guaranteed Q as well, just burying the nail further into the coffin.

If he lands Q alone, that player is dead, especially in the mid to late game and don't even get me started on how much more powerful Cho becomes when he has a team mate who can engage first and have Cho on follow-up duty or about how amazing he is at being a peeler for his team.

None of the "strengths" listed overcomes the fact that he is a mana based immobile melee champion.

Who has enough CC and ranged burst to make up for his alleged immobility and being melee, and who gains tons of mana back for CSing properly.

Yeah, totally.

There isn't a single melee champion without any form of dash/flash/ms buff who has enough in their kit to make up for being immobile. That is how ridiculous the mobility creep has gotten.

Cho, for starters Ashe Brand Fid, if you don't count his "jump" on his R. Heimerdinger Most definitely Jinx, because you can't count her passive Karthus

Just to name a few.

None of the champions you named were melee except cho. And, no, cho's kit does not make up for being an immobile melee champion. No champion's kit right now is good enough to make up for being an immobile melee champion.

Ah, I mis-read. It's sort of late here. Let me re-do that.

Cho Mordekaiser "Oh boy his W gives a measly speed boost now!" Fine, pre-dumb-change Morde. He was literally 100% damage and smashed people to pieces. Nasus Taric

The trend here is that almost all the melee champs in this game have some form of displacement or MS boost.

These don't, and they're still so good because of all the damage and utility they can put out for their teams. You're literally a Cho main on this account, you know for a fact that I'm not wrong, or you wouldn't main him.

I main all of the the immobile melee champions because I enjoy the challenge of using them (my top three are nasus, cho, and pre-rework tryndamere). However, even i'm not going to pretend they are strong in this meta and even I wouldn't use them outside of solo queue in this meta.

The fact of the matter is that immobile melee champions including cho'gath are simply second tier at best (and like 8th tier for taric >.>) in the league of mobility. There is a reason why they are pretty much only picked in solo queue and rarely when players are playing seriously.

So, pre-rework Trynd always had a "dash" and isn't "immobile".

Neither Cho nor Nasus are a challenge to play and they're still very quite strong in this meta. I won't go into the fact that pros use them outside of solo queue which blows your theory right out of the water.

The fact of the matter is that immobile melee champions including Cho'Gath are simply top tier at best (and like, 4th tier for Taric, because he's not really bad >.>) in the league of mobility (which doesn't actually exist because immobile champions have a ton going for them that helps them deal with those issues very easily, because they have to have it to be able to function). There is a reason why Cho is pretty much a permaban in solo queue and most Cho players destroy everyone else because they're playing Cho.

Those are all ranged champions. Did you miss "single melee champion"? You even quoted it in your post.

It also depends on his lane opponent and jungle. He's only super strong if he hit's two items and six stacks of feast. If he gets super pressured and dies a few times before that. Which is really easy to do in almost all ranks due to his mobility, he shouldn't be too hard. It's like a Nasus. If you let him get out of control. He will remain out of control. If you control him, then he is easy to deal with. However I do see a rework coming for him since he hasn't really had any changes to his kit.

"Cho is only strong if he has 2 of 6 items".

Yeah so he's balanced how?

Also, how do you even pressure TP Cho with Flask or Doran's?

Oh, that's right. You can't, because he has so much sustain it's impossible to push him out of lane and he has so much CC that if you're pushed and his jungler ganks, you're dead.

It's not that hard to do pressure him out of minions pre-6. I've seen it done easily with a handful of champs with ranged abilities or auto attacks. Also if he's top, he's easily gankable as long as you don't hard push your lane. In order to keep his sustain up, he needs to kill the minions, keep him in the middle of top and get your jungler to come in from behind him and that's summoners burned or death.

Hell I went against a Vayne top as a Cho. Landed 80% of my Qs and Ws, pushed her out of lane a few times, chewed on her entrails for two kills. Got Roa and Heart. I then got camped by a poppy who kept diving me with the Vayne and I quickly lost all my stacks and the lead I built up. Giving me my first lost as him this ranked season out of the six games I was able to play as him when he wasn't banned.

Yes, he's super powerful. However he's super manageable.

He was broken in Tank META because it was literally just a brawl all game, and few champs can out brawl Cho. But now... mobility is too important. He gets kited really hard.
