I called since season 2 for a role select prior to champion select, and last year, you finally delivered. now, i come back to league to find out you gutted picking lanes, defeating the whole purpose of picking your lanes, by adding autofill. i didn't want to play support, so I didn't select support, and yet this damned 'feature' is throwing people into positions we didn't choose because your system cannot account for the uneven queue times. why, precisely, did you bring out lane picking if you were just going to undermine the whole point later that year?

And since Season 2 there have been people pointing out that an absolute role select like you described would destroy queue times.

And when Riot implemented it, it destroyed queue times.

So they're doing what they can to compromise those goals.

It comes down to the fact not enough players play support.

Riot would never of implemented this system unless the player base of "roles" were move evenly distributed, but no. We basically brought this upon ourselves.

Almost nobody wants to play support (Except those of us who mains and loves it), because you never give it a chance or "it's not as exciting". Everyone wants to be the carry, doing damage, being the frontline, etc. (there's always mage supports, brand, zyra etc)

So it comes down to: Do you want to wait (~~probably quite a lot~~) for 15+ minutes to get into a champ select, OR are you willing to play a game of support to get a game done. ~~(and get rid of autofill for like 1 or 2 (??) games)~~

Playing support can be just as exciting as any other roles, just the satisfaction of contributing to your team. The clutch heals and shields. Yes, it might be hard to share a lane, but once you get an adc that you just sync with it's just a good feeling. People need to get over themselves and not think that they are the center of the game, you're not, all 4 of your team members are just as important as you.
