Thoughts on Wukong's passive: Should it require him to hit Champions to give him AR/MR?

Wukong's in a good spot, but I'm sure Riot doesn't like his "free stats" passive. All he has to do is be within 1400 range of a visible enemy Champion and he gets bonus AR/MR. Not very fun and easily violates the "power without gameplay" rule (if that rule still applies anymore).

If it's necessary to change him at all, I'd suggest the following for his passive.

Require him to hit an enemy Champion to get a stack of his passive, with each unique enemy Champion providing a stack. Hitting a Champion you've already struck refreshes the duration of all stacks, but does not give you new ones.

This way, if Wukong really wants to get those resists, he's got to try and hit everyone on the enemy team with Cyclone or his other abilities. He can't just see them and get free stats; he has to fight them.

If this alone would be too "feast or famine", maybe it could be a combination of his current passive and the above change. Make it so he gets a much lower bonus just from proximity to the enemy, but it multiplies if he hits them.

This would fit a lot more with his "Let's fight!" theme and mentality.

#NOTE: Assume Riot would adjust the numbers accordingly.

I'm sure Riot would adjust it accordingly. Not sure why you assume they wouldn't adjust it.

They are generally not very smart, and rely on opinions like that after the fact. xD. But i kinda prefer it being an "aura" that only he gets, that way he gets the MR/AR without needing to ult the enemy.

Two things :

  • passive providing resistance isn't good for Wukong, it dosn't help his assassination pattern
  • passive isn't the only issue of Wukong, his whole kit need work

Actually Riot said that his whole play pattern atm is going to need work and he'll need larger changes on his kit rather then just a new passive. While that passive would possibly make for a better version of his current passive, it may be time he got a brand new one entirely and trade his Armor/MR for sustain seeing as that is what other Divers are getting.

If we were to go with a "sustain" path, I'd actually prefer it not to be sustain and for him instead have some ability to give himself temporary shields. This means he'd win trades easily, but poke would stick.

But if they're going to rework his entire kit, I'd love to see them take some notes from Samuro in Heroes of the Storm. His Mirror Image shenanigans are just awesome.

Well, sustain has become a very broad term from my point of view. to me sustain is "whatever helps you sustain your life throughout a fight", so that can range from healing, to temporary shields, to the kind of damage reduction Irelia and Warwick have, to even Irelia's new disarm status effect giving her a few seconds of an ADC being unable to damage her outside of abilities. To me sustain has gotten such a wide variety of mechanics to work with now that it don't really need to involve healing, so long as it keeps him alive long enough to get his job done and make it out alive.
