Can we add complexity back into League of Legends?

Let me start with, League of legends should be a complex game in more than just macro sense. In terms of macro sense, there are a bunch of factors that make it complex. But only when you are organized. Doesn't have to be a premade, just organized.

But when I say add complexity back into the game, I mean micro managing "stats that hardly anyone used." the old mastery system. Riot wasn't wrong about those stats being hardly used, but that was because 90-95% of players didn't even know how to use them correctly, or what was important for their respective champions. What I am saying was, if you were a good player. You knew how to use them, similarly to how top laners use the top lane brushes.

Part of the reason why damage is so high since season 7+ (only gotten higher). Is because of the automatic system. Everything is pretty automatic now. There are a total of 2 keystones (across three, because I am counting 2 of them as half) that require any thought. Predator, Guardian, and Unsealed Spellbook. I would have argued that Klepto, except for the fact that only people who has skillshots/point click abilities that proc it or Illaoi (because of spirit) those champions literally make it automatic. I would argue Glacial, but realistically people don't even have to auto to proc that items do it as well. When we go into minor runes. Minion Demat is the only one that requires any thinking. Everything else except for those keystones and Minion Demat are all automatic. I wouldn't have a problem with keystones and minor runes being automatic, if the enhanced a kit, but everything adds damage to a kit. Take windseeker's blessing as an example. It was strong and automatic, but it enhanced a champions kit. Not just simply added damage, or some stat boost to the user.

Compared to even just the original release of Keystones. The new system is still more damage centric.

Things like Electrocute vs TLD, is higher by .1 AD and .15 AP.

All of the ADC keystones back then were weaker in the early game, but stronger in the late game. Which was fine, because ADC's were Late Game Champions (another topic to speak about.).

Double-Edged Sword, was deal 3% more damage and take 1.5% additional damage. There was risk and reward. The other two were 3% and 1% additional damage. Lets compare that to our current three. 8%, 5-15%, and 5-11%.

Triumph vs Dangerous Game. 12% + 20 gold vs 5% hp and mana.

RESOLVE ACTUALLY WAS USEFUL OUTSIDE OF ABUSE CASES, while still having some major abuse cases.

Everything was lower. The only things that was different were Runes.

Runes gave more than just offensive and defensive stats. You could get MS over other things.

Instead of being pigeon holed into having to take CDR/AD/AP/AS, AD/AP/MR/Armor, Armor/MR/HP.

You can literally take a look at old masteries and runes reforged. Someone should check out items and see if they have gone up as well. Too lazy to at this point.

Old runes were garbage. They were not complex, there was a clear good rune set and everything else was suboptimal paramount to trolling.

Base stat changes can NEVER be complex by definition.

You clearly don't understand all the complexities to this game or else you be Master tier at least.

Arguments like this are bad because of how many players are in lower ranks.

You clearly haven't played rts games if you think this game is so complex a casual player with a life cannot understand it.

The delusion of thinking you understand something, when you dont, is hard to overcome.

Someone who has hard time to solve 13*12=? cannot comprehend it isn't really difficult for others.

Theorex1 votes

He isn't understanding what you are trying to put out. A fuck ton of people understand the complexities of League of Legends, since they aren't that hard to understand. The only "hard" ones are champion mechanics. And with enough time on those, you eventually learn them to a high degree.

Hmm, I love how that is the argument that everyone wants to jump to. Thinking that knowing every single strat is going to magically make them masters+. You could be dog shit at champion mechanics and be iron. Meanwhile you can know nothing about anything in the game other than how to kill your opp and be masters+. Have you seen hashinshin?

There really isn't anything complex with league of legends. The most complex stuff is only truly offered in premade teams vs other premade teams.

You clearly don't play enough ranked to understand how automatic pretty much everything in the game is. They have been removing skill from the game to dumb it down year after year. They are removing skill expression champions and in place just gutting them or making them stupid easy to play. Where is the complexity in that?

If you are talking about the complexities of match ups? That isn't exactly a complex thing. Its simply a matter of understanding what the enemy obj is vs what your obj is. How to execute your obj better than your enemies obj. Especially in solo queue.

Again did you read this post? I was almost exclusively talking about pregame stuff, like runes and masteries.

Pick a few seasons. Be more specific on what you enjoyed.

I wrote this at like 3 am, brain dead. Lul.

But i mean, it should have been pretty easy to figure out since I compared all of the keystones to the original keystones back in season 6.

And it should have been pretty obvious that I enjoyed lower numbers back then, because it didn't end games by 15-20 minutes.

Sure. Here's some Complexity for you:

this game is 5x more comlpex than it was 5years ago... What are you on?

Theorex1 votes

In terms of pre game. The game is more simple.

And no its not.

Everything that is currently in Macro scene is still the same.

All that has happened is what Riot has influenced.

They got arid of lane swapping. Any try of strat that has come up they have also gotten arid of. Meanwhile back then, they just weren't discovered.

Again this is the pre game stuff I am talking about. The game itself remains nearly the exact same, minus a few new objectives like rift and elemental drakes.

Oh look, another post about wanting old runes and masteries back.

I mean, they offer better selection. And you aren't pigeon holed into some bullshit.

Example, Transcendence vs Absolute/Celerity. 9/10 players are going to take transcendence because it is just better than the rest.

Also, old runes and masteries gave better stats and more diverse stats. All they had to do was make runes free. That is all.

Old runes had better defensive options, while old masteries had lower stat boosting. I don't see any down side to either one of those.

25% of the game was who could use the runes and masteries better back then. Now its just who can abuse their runes better than the other player.

Theorex1 votes

Don't get me started on fucking drakes. That shit is the fucking dumbest shit ever.

10/16/24% additional damage, with no recourse or counter to that. And everyone is talking about how game damage has only gone up since season 6. They play a massive factor into that.

You say pigeon-holed, but there really is only one mastery set for each different class. Thunderlord’s for aggressive, Fervor for all bruisers, Windspeaker’s for enchanters, etc. The rest of them were all trash that only added one point of damage or one percent of CDR. The Reforged gave you other flashy, more limited options, but they did much more than what the mastery tree could ever do. Comparing Guardian to Courage of the Colossus, Guardian, in terms of usefulness, would win hands down.

Riot wasn't wrong about those stats being hardly used, but that was because 90-95% of players didn't even know how to use them correctly, or what was important for their respective champions. What I am saying was, if you were a good player. You knew how to use them

Make the game complex, and people who want to play casually won’t enjoy it anymore. Plus, it’s absolutely patronizing of you to even say that good players use them correctly, implying that the others who don’t or can’t, are terrible.

Example, Transcendence vs Absolute/Celerity. 9/10 players are going to take transcendence because it is just better than the rest.

And you say Trans vs Celerity or Absolute Focus, but clearly, you haven’t tried the other champions and their builds, like Celerity on Hecarim or Absolute Focus on AP Galio.

Old runes had better defensive options, while old masteries had lower stat boosting. I don't see any down side to either one of those.

Remember Courage of the Colossus? The dinky shield? Does nothing except block 50 damage. Guardian is infinitely more useful to the team, like a mountain compared to a pebble.

Remember Stoneborn Pact? The mastery nobody uses except when they are a CC bot? The effect is like Font of Life, except it’s not a keystone anymore, AKA it can be used with Revitalize, a keystone like Grasp or Guardian, and Second Wind.

The distinctions are clearly shown between the two of them, with one being more rewarding than the other.

Also, old runes and masteries gave better stats and more diverse stats. All they had to do was make runes free. That is all.

Firstly, you say that runes and masteries gave better stats, but the only problem was that all ADCs and Mages only want damage runes and 30-0-0 or 21-0-7 masteries, and it wouldn’t be any different compared to runes reforged without any additional effects. Secondly, old runes were locked behind a paywall, and pages at a whopping 6300 IP. Nobody is gonna own all the runes at the same damn time, without wasting your life playing the game. And third, if they did make runes free, how will they compensate other players who bought the runes? There are clearly players who spent over 50000 IP alone on runes, and maybe even some RP too, and now that they are getting rid of the price tag, all that grinding is going to waste when Riot could have been dicks and just laughed at the hardcore players for making their rune system “F2Play”.

Overall, your argument for making the game “complex” is instead making it “unnecessary”. The oxymoron within your argument (old runes and masteries are better and more effective because they give lower stats, therefore it is good) falls flat on the face. Again, all I see is another man or woman wanting the old runes back because he blames the game more than his own skills.
