The AS buff that Lux got doesn't make her passive easier to use against Champions

Even if it might help a bit with farming, it does not change the fact that once the enemy hits level 6, Lux players will NEVER try to autoattack them. If she tries to proc Illumination on a post-6 opponent with an auto attack, she's asking them to jump on her and kill her.

Is it intended that Lux simply not use her passive in mid-to-late game against Champions outside of her ultimate? If so, that feels like terrible design planning.

Her passive is intended to give her a risk (being closer to the enemy champion) for a reward (bonus damage).

Working as intended.

The insane risk means no one ever gets (or wants) the reward.

That's not true. In many scenarios, E.G. Amumu vsLux 1v1, the risk is totally worth taking if Amumu has already used his Q.

if "no one ever gets (or wants) the reward." was true, why do I see people punish with it in the upper elos? It's about knowing when to step in, it's about reading the flow of the game, it's about knowing what your opponent can and can't do at any given moment. It's what separates the average Lux player from the best Lux player. If you can't do these things, don't worry, that just makes you the average Lux player. It's okay to be average, but it's not okay to speak for all because you can't do a thing.
