Idea for how to deal with tank assassins.

You could put into their kit the opposite effect of giant slayer, where for every x health greater than the target, you deal y% reduced damage. Thus allowing these champions to still use their damage, but building tanky would make them do nothing.

Thoughts anyone?

Remember we could make it exponential to allow for partly tanks builds to work, but full tank builds to fail.

But problem is that Assassins usually always have more HP than ADC. So giving them reduced damage against lower HP target would just mess up ASSASSINs completely. Ye sure Akali with Sunfire cape and Spirit Visage could be affected well with it. But what about Akali with Rylai and some other HP/ AP item? Ye sure tank ekko would be brought down, what about Ekko with Rod of Ages? Now what about those AD assassins that build Black Cleaver and Steraks? They will be punished for building a bit of HP? ROD of AGES and Strength of Ages(mastery) Nidalee in jungle should do less damage to Kindred? Just because items she built gives her some HP?

We could make it both bonus health, and an exponential value, or perhaps function over a threshold of health, say base + 1000 bonus.

Except no one likes when a kit has an inherent drawback inside it. It might be good game design but its unfun to play a champ with a kit that straight up punishes a certain build (instead of subtly punishing it by making said build less effective than others). Its just lazy to throw a negative on instead of really balancing.

I don't think all of that is really needed. You just need to make sure that assassins that specialize in high damage or don't have too high of bases. For example - why does an assassin or anyone that specializes in burst damage need % health damage? % health damage is a stat belongs on those who favor extended trades and usually give up high burst in exchange.

Problem is having too low bases makes playing from behind too difficult to warrant having assassins, while having too high ratios means getting ahead prevents your opponents from doing anything. As well certain other mechanics are what differentiate assassins from each other. Otherwise the "assassin" class just falls onto the one with the most damage and all others are suboptimal.

I agree it's a fine balance which is why those numbers constantly have to be tweaked and refined by the support team. I still stand by the fact that % health damage on an assassin is unhealthy however.

The best way to deal with them is take a hammer to their knees by whacking their base damage until they are unable to hurt you if they build tank.
