Ranking System - Rotten to the Core

Dear RIOT company,

I'm writing here today to express some of my feelings towards the current ranking system. It might sound like a ''hater'' mail, but I think this needs to be said.

First of all, it's worth noticing that I'm a Bronze player(Yeah, that doesn't start well and it removes some credibility), but it's not like I haven't tried to get out of it. I have been playing more than 5 hours a day for about a week now (All ranked games, mostly SoloQ) because I was sick of being in this league and during that week, I improved a lot. I also noticed this. If you're in it, you're screwed. There are so much ''trolls'', people that are trying new champions and people that just go AFK. For players like me that try hard, it's a struggle and, in the end, it also makes us quit the game because, let's be honest, it's taxing a lot psychologically. You've recently tried to improve your ranking system to make it more fair (Which failed...), but I don't get how it is so hard to do! Here's a sample of what I would propose.

NEW RANKING SYSTEM FOR LOW LEAGUES (Bronze, Silver & Gold) :

SOLOQUEUE

  1. The teams would be based on the mastery level of the champions the players mostly play and / or the total masteries on each champions that they own. This would eliminate a lot of ''trolls'' and the players that want to really play rank and move up in the ladder would have a chance to do it.

  2. The teams could take in consideration the number of wins (combining all the game modes) the players have. People that would play a lot would get matched with veterans like them.

  3. If a player gets reported by his team for AFK'ing or intentionnal feeding, he would be fined by being forced to play in Normal for X games that could keep increasing with the number of offenses (e.g. 5, 10, 15 etc.) before he could play in Ranked again.

  4. The winning streaks should also be taken in account. If a player is trying super hard and managed to get 3 wins in a row, he should be matched with players that are also in winning streaks (if they are available of course!).

I hope the community doesn't reject the idea.

Matching people on champion level is pretty ridiculous. Champion level does not reflect the performance on the champion. People just have to grind enough to get those levels.

For example, a bronze mastery level 5 champion stop will not perform as well as a diamond player who has played the same champion twice

PS. : I'm not blaming the teammates I play with (I can get some really good ones at times and it's super fun to play!), but I'm pointing the fact it's common to be matched with players that just quit during the game if they're mad or that they will just intentionally feed the enemy team if they didn't get the lane they wanted...

I got outta bronze ( I was placed as bronze 4 because I supported during my ranking matches ) as a support solo queing Theres absolutely nothing wrong with the ranking system except it matching you with the odd " 0/10/0 every game player " just work hard and you'll eventually get to silver

In silver its a little harder so I gave up and started duo queing but since we don't have a full team you occasionally get the odd " 0/10/0 player " even then its not that bad you lose a game and just move on if you cant climb maybe you're playing the wrong role? or playing champions you don't enjoy using I find climbing is easier when I play something I enjoy rather then Counterpicking the enemy team

Great suggestions. But part of 1. Should be performance based as well as skill level on champ. So that someone with 100 yasuo games who stomps 78% isn't forced to play with someone with 100 Ahri games but has a 48% win rate.

As being on the outside (that is, not interested in Ranked) the only real observable problem I've seen is that people smurf, so the way games play out becomes very difficult to record meaningfully.

That being said, actually doing something for reports would be nice for sure.
