New Sightstones

The addition of support items made the bot lane a lot more diverse, but the options for vision are still pretty lacking. To give incentive for other lanes (and supports that want to build offensively) to build vision beyond spending gold on just wards, there could be three versions of the Sightstone:

  1. Lifestone - 150 HP and builds out of a Ruby Crystal.
  2. Bladestone - 12 AD and builds out of a Longsword.
  3. Magestone - 25 AP and builds out of an Amplifying Tome.

Three versions of Ruby Sightstone:

  1. Ruby Lifestone - 400 HP and builds out of a Sightstone and a second Ruby Crystal.
  2. Steel Bladestone - 30 AD and builds out of a Bladestone and a second Longsword.
  3. Sapphire Magestone - 50 AP and builds out of a Magestone and a second Amp Tome.

Combine costs can be adjusted to have equal gold efficiency, but they're already really close (1060g, 1080g, and 1088g respectively). Gold value for wards is identical for all three, since they'd operate the same way.

Edit: Suggestions from others include a version for attack speed, and a late game version that offers both offense and HP.

Wardstone - builds out of 5 green wards and 1 pink ward Master Wardstone - It's Season 3 baby, light up that map

Divine Reaver5 votes

Instead of wasting your time trying to force people to buy something they aren't going to buy, just fix the ward system to the way it was so I alone can drop more than 3 wards at a time. Before the limiter I used to have the entire map covered but now I'm forced to rely on strangers, which is a nice concept but is not practical. Riot please, let me drop at least 5 wards at a time.

Rikari5 votes

If the entire team did that, there would be virtually nowhere for the enemy teams to hide. always prepared,no comebacks.would make stuff less interesting. not to mention >1 pinks

Wullf4 votes

but, you could place as many wards as you wanted in previous seasons. So I call your comment invalid.

I also used to light up the map with wards.

My end game build was: Boots and philosopher stone.

Do you understand how bad of a change this is?

Not only does it make support gameplay extremely one dimensional, it also forces them into extreme weakness. Not as in 'I don't get very much gold and so I can't carry like a mage'. But as in 'I'm leona and I'm not as tanky as Fiora with a Giants Belt and a Maw because I have 2 items + boots.' Which, if we want tank supports (or tanky supports) to really exist in league, cant be a thing.

Actually, Rioters believe this is a great idea and are taking this to innovative for S5. Yes, their will be many tweakings and such to keep it balance, but by all means this is not a terrible idea nor is it game-breaking.

Source? I've been keeping up with pre-season changes and have seen nothing like this.

Actually, it is within the boards, related to the same exact thing about updating SightStone; when I find the link I will post it, as it is very relevant to the post.

...But you can, just buy 3 item 2044, 1 item 2043, and a item 3340...Don't need a item 2049 for that, at least, not all the time.

LeeSin "I can't see this ending badly."

I laughed a bit in ARAM when I was playing Lee. I got hit by a Quinn Q and a little "Blinded!" text popped up.

Wait, Quinn blinded Lee Sin? That's like Corki flying faster with boots, or Cass turning Malphite into stone...

I super like it. I split between AD and AP supports and building HP on the AP's helps survival, but not much else beyond that, I would love the options.

And the new soraka doesn't like hp that much either

If only Rito listened to the community....

I wouldn't let it have the full 4 wards on the versions of it. I'd make them like Flare/Golem, a single ward holder, that refreshes when the previous one runs out.

Quepha2 votes

unless they're removing trinkets, this change would make no sense at all.

YGW Caspie2 votes

I'd like one that has crit chance, +crit damage, and AD ... call it the Infinitystone and maybe then my ADC will buy and place wards too. /s

Honestly Sightstone ideas get brought up a lot, and for the most part making them gold efficient with extra stats probably isn't healthy for the game. That being said I think they need a ward slot so my mid laner and jungler on my ranked 5s team stop using the excuse of "I don't have any spots for wards..." because that pisses me off when I see a shitty longsword taking up their 6th slot at 35 mins in the game, that 10 damage though.

I'm salty. 8)

it's definitely an interesting concept. it'd help support the fact that vision isn't just the support's job

HP as the only option on Sightstone is often a wasted stat. Janna often build's Mejai's because her positioning is far from the frontline to peel for adc. That health rarely helps her. I love the idea of other options.

Onegarion1 votes

What if they added a %increase to some stats like a 5% increase to bonus stats making it impractical for laners to get and on top of that a small GP5 instead.

Honestly you could drop the increase and stats and just make it a GP5 item instead. This could make it more desirable if it has more stats to it, but you hvae to focus them on the ones that supports want. LIke is said Janna doesn't really need the HP so I don't know a support that would turn down extra gold. Armor is useless on some supports, HP is obviously kinda hit or miss, and damage isn't needed by everyone either. So unless we go the multiple sightstone route we have to focus on stats that a majority of supports could use.

That tunnels it back down to being exclusively a support item, though.

Onegarion1 votes

not necessarily. When you consider that junglers right now are hurt by lower gold gains they could benefit from it too. I mean while most of the time you won't see a jungler get sightstone anyway those that do really don't buy it for the small amount of HP that it gives. They get it for the vision control they get or in Lee's case to fully use his kit. That doesn't mean that it can't be tweaked further to make it more accessible.

I mean honestly its already almost exclusively a support item. The only other champs I've seen build it are Lee sin and the occasional champs like Nunu for ward coverage. YOu don't see other junglers get it normally or really at all. Its not an item that most junglers even want or think of getting. Its hard to argue that its anything but a support item with a few niche champs picking it up atm.

Lao Fu the Tiger1 votes

And what item would you replace on your current build for your Magestone? A Void Staff perhaps? Or the Hourglass?

The two most core items? At least be realistic lol. I'd probably replace the "well I have 1200g..." blasting wand.

merchantfees1 votes

everyone would buy oracles and there would be a ton of ward clearing.

possible balance change would be to increase reward for killing wards so there'd be an inherent cost in 3 people buying these items and dropping 9 wards everywhere.

want 9 wards ? you risk enemy team using oracles and getting 75 gold per ward

semthews1 votes

If your entire team is starting a ward hunt, be prepared to for a galio flash, amumu ult, general game ending gank while ur getting the 3 auto's off on the ward in your own jg.

merchantfees1 votes

perhaps a sliding value based on number of sight stones a team has. extra 15 gold per ward killed for every sight stone a team has

Wullf1 votes

No support with bit of sense would buy AD over HP.

AP might be bought for specific broken supports, but still, sustain is really valuable for supports in the lane. And even more so in late.

Remlap12231 votes

Bladestone - 12 AD and builds out of a Longsword.

lower down the magestone to 20 ap then the ruby magestone to 40 ap.

we dont need annies, zyras, morganas etc all support mages becoming more powerful

That would drop the gold value by a lot, which would make it cheaper to build.

whatever then keep the gold value same as it is and lower the ap. support will still buy it cuz of wards.

all i know is its too op for it to be 50 ap and a sightstone. if this idea goes throough, youll see LCS mid lane will buy it as 2nd or 3rd item along with the jungler and support and maybe the top laner, than the entire map will be warded.

FantasySniper1 votes

There doesn't need to be AD.

Unless of course you want sightstone to be even more viable on LeeSin

Sir Bulldog1 votes

I'm sorry but I don't see this as a good idea. Yes, it would encourage other lanes to ward, but therein lies the problem. With this change, all of the other lanes would buy it. What does that mean? It means that the jungler would have a much tougher time ganking because the opponents would always see him coming.

If Riot does implement this, I would make them have a crazy long cool-down like 150-200 seconds. Otherwise the map would always be warded making the job of the jungler even harder (as if it's not hard enough already).

Riot should offer an alternative for the Sightstone and Ruby Sightstone since they remade Soraka to have a skill costing 10% of her health.

Yeah, %health is pretty BS. There's no way to itemize any better for it. She has Starcall to heal her health, but she has to get into near melee range to guarantee hitting. If she's in melee range after casting a few heals, she'll just get blown up because she has no health left.

balbraaksel1 votes

Not really because you can just use the AoE silence and predict how they'll run out of it, and chain a starcall to that location for a fairly guaranteed hit.

She's currently forced to build a lot of AP to make her heal more powerful, she needs items without health because it hurts her more than it does good on her and because she won't build health, she needs defensive items, preferably with AP. Meaning she's currently a champion that is a support and is forced to support, however can't build as a support and has to build as an AP mid. So as she is now, I'd build her with Hourglass, Abyssal Scepter, Rabadon's Deathcap, Lucidity boots, Guardian Angel and Athene's Unholy Grail. And upgrade the ward trinket + request someone else to do the same.
