Lore

For centuries, wolves have been seen with some animosity and mistrust across the Freljord. Although the creatures themselves are not considered malevolent, they are often subject to improbable tales and childhood myths. Stories of ghost animals, unnatural beasts with hearts of ice and icicles for teeth, are all too common in the Freljord, but if one was to compare the numerous narratives of the Freljord's many distinct tribes, a correlation would appear... every tribe in the Freljord portrays some kind of "winter wolf". Named after the fierce winds of the north, the "Howling Wind" is a powerful and merciless beast, with a deep-seated malice towards any with warm blood in their veins.

The stories are not far from the truth. The creature's true name is Fenris, and its origins lie in a time beyond living memory: in the age of the Watchers. When the Frozen Watchers still reigned in the Freljord, when Lissandra and her sisters were not yet enemies but family, Fenris was created. He was a creature of true ice, given intelligence and the shape of a wolf; a gift from the Watchers to Lissandra for her loyalty. Since his creation, he was always seen at her side, ominously stalking behind her.

In the destructive aftermath of the War of the Three Sisters, Lissandra sent Fenris―long recognized as a symbol of her power―away, so that she might better infiltrate the Freljord's scattered tribes and prepare them for her masters' return. But he never wandered too far from the Ice Witch. He lurked on the outskirts; a foreboding force that shadowed her every move. Even Lissandra, who considered herself to be the wolf's master, did not know what to make of it at times. But the wolf did not approach her, as he was instructed centuries ago. Why Fenris has taken interest in Lissandra's activities within the League of Legends is a mystery still unsolved.

FAQ

What role is Fenris?

Fighter. But Fenris does best when a teammate can capitalize on his moves. Make him a bruiser, and he'll better initiate and peel; make him an assassin, and he'll literally divide and conquer the enemy team with his W. It's definitely a dramatic entrance, and places him in the middle of the fray. He can either chase down the enemy carry, or join the rest of the pack and take down the enemy tank.

In conclusion, Fenris is the embodiment of wolf hunting tactics.

Would anybody from the Freljord have interactions from him?

Freljord champs would definitely have something to say about him; they were all born and raised on his legends. But he personally has a history with Anivia; the two have tangled before, and the battles are often mistaken as terrible snowstorms.

Who does Fenris really work for?

I'll answer that question with another question: "who watches for the Watchers?"

What does his Q, Cold Burn look like? I'm having difficulty visualizing it.

Fenris is made of true ice; naturally, he always has a weapon at his disposal. Fenris will crouch and bring himself lower to the ground, while simultaneously raising his tail. In a quick motion, he flicks his tail forward, flinging shards from his own tail at the target enemy. They're akin to armor-piercing rounds.

His ultimate seems lame. Are there any thoughts to changing it?

Yes. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and incredibly helpful. As my one of my first custom champions, Fenris borrowed his abilities from several other champions, namely Anivia, Lissandra and Nasus. But a new ultimate is being brainstormed. Keep suggesting ideas!

The formatting is genius!

You might want to clarify what Cold Burn looks like in the FAQ, having a bit of trouble seeing what it's supposed to look like.

Howling wind's whopping range of 400 feels weak. A wolf's howl is a foreboding omen often heard for miles around, I would make the move reflect that a little better (maybe a wide-sweeping ring that reveals/slows?). Right now, it only serves to make him inescapable.

I feel your ultimate could be so much moreeeeeee. I get awesome ability names and buildup, and then there's a generic stat buff. To me, Wintertide feels like he summons tons of wolf spirits/blizzard that he runs with (gets buffs if he runs with it?).

Cool ideas for other ultimates (imo)

#Frore Fang

Passive: Slowed enemies take 50/100/150 (.2 AP) additional magic damage from autoattacks

Active: Fenrir bites with the might of winter itself, freezing the enemy in place for 1/1.5/2 seconds and dealing 100/250/400 (.7 AP)( .3 AD) magic damage.

If Fenrir has 10 stacks of Cold Omen upon activation, Fenrir can re-cast Frore Fang at triple the cost to a nearby enemy.

#Glacial Pack

Fenrir attacks with the pack of Freljord, summoning 3/6/9 spectral wolves to aid in attacking his enemies.

Each wolf is untargetable and favors the enemy Fenrir is attacking, dealing 50 (.1 AP) with each bite. Spectal wolves are granted as many Cold Omen stacks as Fenrir.

Wolves AS: 0.8

Just some thoughts, this is a wicked cool concept!

Newest Changes:

  • Damaging abilities generate Cold Omen stacks now.
  • Q is a skillshot.
  • W grants a short armor buff, but can no longer be shattered by recast. Instead...
  • E shatters Frostlines within range, making them deal magic damage.

This seems less like a fighter and more like an uncatchable assassin with incredible tank-killing potential. He can work up incredible movement speed by auto'ing creeps, then dashes to the enemy, slows and silences them (effectively stopping any kind of escape short of a thresh lantern), then shreds their armor and proceeds to wail on them with his enormous AD steroid. He reminds me of an AD version of leblanc before her silence was removed.

Nice idea but league doesn't need any more wolves. Warwick Warwick Warwick Warwick Warwick Warwick Warwick Warwick

Way to rip off both the name and the image.

How does something get to be the post of the day anyway? Like, is it just whatever they think sounds cool?

Mind you, this is a solid champ design, though. Props.

Hey there! Really nice post right there, I love the concept, another wolf would add up to the game, especially since the old one (Warwick, yes, him.) seems quite boring to play.

Though I love the idea of relying A LOT on his passive, I feel like it makes him weak. Let me explain.

  • To have a fully effective ult and E, you NEED 10 stacks of Cold Omen. (Cold Omen itself is quite cool by the way, and yes, the pun was intended)
  • His passive stacks up quite slowly without his Q. Since his Q doesn't seem to be a skillshot that can spread onto various opponents, it is difficult to use it effectively in teamfights. So around 10 AAs to make your Ult and E effective...
  • His W should dish out damage or give Fenris a steroid. This ability looks like it is great to, while you jump in the middle of a team fight, let a wall back to protect your ADC / Long-range mage protected behind a wall. Now, you don't want a simple jump, it feels kinda "suicidal", especially since Fenris doesn't look like a Malphite-ish champion that soaks up damage. He needs something to help him add up stacks of Cold Omen, so Attacl Spped seems cool. Not too much, cause it would perfectly stack with BotRK, Tri, Feral or even Wit's End. He could build quite tanky while dishing out so much damage.
  • Finally, making your ult a percentage spell makes it CRAZY. Imagine a full tank Fenris, or worse, full AD. During his ult, he could get to huge AD + AS stats and just jump in while his carries sit behind a wall. You should have fix amounts + ratios on bonus Health and bonus AD, depending on which route the player chooses.

TL;DR

  • AoE skillshot on Q (To help up with Passive)
  • W with a little TINY steroid (To, again, help with passive)
  • Fix stats on R with bonus AD/HP ratios.

So yeah, that was a Silver player's point of view, take it with a grain of salt :3

If anyone would like to suggest a new ultimate, petition it here. I'm somewhat attached to Wintertide, but as a farmer must Thresh his wheat, so must this ability change. If you can somehow keep the name, that would be awesome!

Thank you for your Soraka.

Nice idea :)

So for his ultimate..hmmm

Maybe something in regard with his champion title?

Howling winds He becomes stealth/untargetable while a howling wind(something that makes him stealth) surrounds him, leving a trail behind him unableing vision to the eneym team.So he comes in conatct with the enemy champion he reduves their MR/AR.

His ultimate also applies a stack of Cold Omen additionaly for every sec the enemy in near him in X range.

Hope i helped.

PLS post quotes for champions of the Freljord.

I'm currently in the process of making an introductory guide to creating a champion concept and I'll admit this is probably one of the best formatted concepts I've seen with the new CB look. Would you mind of I linked this concept as a formatting example in said guide?

Behold, the new Wintertide!

ACTIVE: Fenris summons 3/4/5 spectral wolves to aid him for 6 seconds. Each wolf is untargetable, has an attack speed of 0.7, and favors the enemy Fenris is attacking, dealing 50/55/60 (+10% AP) magic damage. Wintertide's duration is increased by 0.3 seconds for every stack of Cold Omen upon activation.

I like the wolf pack idea. However, I think they should be targetable, (tempt the team to focus them, like tibbers) they should be tough as nails, and they should be just as disruptive as the rest of his abilities. This champ is a great idea.

I like this concept but I got a strong smell of Fenrir from Smite. Granted, I'm sure Fenris is based off of Fenrir from Norse mythology so I can't blame you for that but as far as the abilities go, they're somewhat, albeit not 100%, similiar to Fenrir's kit. Also, Wintertide feels just like another Fury of the Sands or Dominus. I don't think we need another ultimate like those two. But don't let that stop ya! Overall, interesting concept!

Flyntloch7/18/2014, 1:26:36 AM1 votes

I agree with this. There in my opinion are barely any animal/hybrids. The only ones that I seem to see are Warwick, Twitch and Co-Chars(Tibbers Willump and Bristle). Speaking of which..... NEW CHAMP MUST BE AN ANIMAL BECAUSE OF TANTRUM! Nah no, Thats a weird idea.
