He wields a short sword - as well as an enchanted, ancient bronze shield with a dragon’s head on its face, which breathes fire. A massive, ceremonial bronze bell is strapped to his back, like an oversized jetpack, that erupts with puffs of smoke and flame.

Lore:

By dictation of family birth rite, Bo Zhong was to protect the mausoleum of his ancestors – as his father, and fathers before him had for eons. Within these vast underground tunnel systems - filled with tombs and sepulchers of bronze, Bo Zhong, was entrusted with a blessing from his gods – the gift of the mausoleum’s sacred fire – with which he lit torches and incense to guide the souls of the deceased to the nether realm. As long as he was within a periphery of the large, bronze bells scattered within the mausoleum chambers, he could wield the powers of the fire god himself. Although he had the strength and heart of a true warrior, the weapons and armor he bared were merely ceremonial – having only seen service in times of strife long ago.

Although Bo Zhong yearned for battle, he did not know that it would soon befall him. One day, as he lit yet another tray of incense, a mysterious portal had manifested before him – from which many armed bandits emerged. Bo Zhong did not understand the event, but the intruders immediately began taking various ritualistic artifacts from the tomb. Bo Zhong took it upon himself to apprehend these grave robbers – utilizing the powers of sacred fire. The survivors of the encounter ran back through the portal in terror – fleeing with arms full of treasures. More treasure hunters came the next day, and even more the following night. Bo Zhong held his ground against the invaders for many moons, but the artifacts continued to disappear. After growing increasingly frustrated with the frequency of the looting, Bo Zhong approached one of the large bronze bells, the source of his powers, removed it from its pedestal, and strapped it to the back of his armor. With this power now permanently with him, he would travel to the other side of the portal, and surely destroy every last trespasser in order to atone for his failure, restore honor to his ancestors, and bring glory to his gods. His time of defending was over. The chase had just begun.

Much to Bo Zhong's surprise, the portal closed behind him as he stepped into the foreign soil of Runeterra, a land that he had now sworn to pillage. As the gods as his witnesses, He shall chase these sinners to the ends of this realm. They will burn by his hand, and Bo Zhong shall be baptized by their screams of agony.

Ability statistics:

Passive ability: Godspeed

  • Bo Zhong's bell begins to spurt flames as he is out of combat for more than 10 seconds - increasing his movement speed by 4.5(+.5 per level) until resuming combat.

  • Bo Zhong's base attack speed increases by 6% for every 100 mana he currently has.

Active Q: Hot Pursuit

  • Bo Zhong bangs the bell on his back with the hilt of his sword. The bell's inner chamber ignites - resulting in Bo Zhong flying forward in a quick dash attack across the ground. and colliding into enemies with explosive results - slightly damaging a small area with an explosion at its end point (does not require target). Bo Zhong, if successfully hitting a target with this ability, gains slight armor and magic resistance boosts for 5 seconds after this ability.

  • Mana cost: 60 (increases by 15 each time Bo Zhong uses this ability in rapid succession - this increase amount can stack up to 5 times) (rapid succession is defined as usage 3 seconds after cooldown duration)

  • Cooldown: 14/13/12/11/10

(Cooldown reduced to 12/11/10/9/8 if no targets hit)

  • Max physical damage: 50/90/130/170/210 (0.6 per AP)(+0.9 per bonus AD)

  • Range (dash): 725

  • Range (AoE): 125 (circumference around Bo Zhong)

  • Temporary armor boost: 15/20/25/30/35

  • Magic resist: 25/35/45 (+0.2 per AP)

*This dash can go through walls of a certain thickness. Also, the dash triggers all traps along the way, such as TeemoTeemo's mushrooms, which may hinder the distance traveled, or even cancel the travel distance altogether. Other trap effects are inflicted normally.

Passive & Active W: Fist of the Ancients

  • Passive: Every auto attack gives Bo Zhong 15 mana while active cooldown is not currently in effect.

  • Active: Every seven auto attacks gives Bo Zhong the ability to strike enemies with his shield for his next auto attack to inflict extra damage that scales from AP. Cooldown lasts for seven auto attacks.

  • Mana cost: 40

  • Magic damage: 80/110/140/170/200

(+0.7 per AP)

*Cooldown resets after effect is activated. Magic damage is added to auto attack damage.

Active E: Pacify

  • Bo Zhong ignites his sword, which envelopes the blade in flame, and increases its length temporarily. Bo Zhong uses this large, fire-engulfed sword to slash once in a horizontal, cone-shaped area in front of him – dealing initial damage to enemies within range, causing momentary silence and slowing to targets, and slightly damaging targets for over the course of the next two seconds.

  • Mana cost: 60

  • Range: 475 long, 350 wide at end of cone away from Bo Zhong

  • Magic damage: 60/90/120/150/180 (+0.6 per AP)

  • Max physical damage: 90/140/190/240/290 (+1 per bonus AD)

  • Silence duration: 0.6 second(s)

  • Slow duration: 0.6 second(s)

  • Damage over time: 30 + 15x level (+10 bonus AP per ability level per second)

Active R (ult): The Purge of Flame

  • Bo Zhong raises his shield in front of him, and covers himself in a fiery aura. The dragon head carving on Bo Zhong's shield then begins to breathe fire - in the form of fireball projectiles that shoot in a straight trajectory (These attacks replace auto attacks - giving Bo Zhong temporary ranged attacks). These fire projectiles scale from Bo Zhong's AD, but his W (the shield bash) is temporarily disabled for the ability's duration.

  • Mana cost: 130

  • Ability range: 525

  • Physical damage: 90/140/190 (+0.6 per attack damage)

  • Attack speed: same as regular auto attack speed

  • Duration: 5 seconds

  • Cooldown: 125 seconds

Things Bo Zhong might say:

(Upon selection)

  • "The passion of battle is ablaze."

(Joke)

  • "You see, summoner, some men just want to watch the world . . . Well, you know."

(Taunt)

  • "Yes, yes. Kindle the fire - feed the FLAME!!"

(Death)

  • "Uuuggghhhh. . ." (As one might expect)

(While moving)

  • "Indeed."
  • "Ashes to ashes."
  • "Glorious!"
  • "The gods will it so."
  • "It shall be done"
  • "No deed goes unpunished."
  • "Hurry, summoner, there are places to be - sinners to burn."
  • "With godspeed."
  • "I am an instrument of divine wrath."

(While attacking)

  • "Whither . . . And BURN."
  • "Like a warm blade through flesh."
  • "The flame takes no prisoners."
  • "Cowards burn the quickest."
  • "Kneel before your gods!"
  • "Your false idols cannot save you."

(Ulti activation)

  • "Submit!"

  • " Fire shall cleanse this realm!"

(The splash art is coming soon - I've been having some problems with my tablet USB input, so once that is sorted out, the art will be posted shortly after. Thanks for the patience!)

I want to thank anyone taking the time to read this. Really. Any constructive criticism helps the cause - don't be shy to speak your mind - I just want to make this design as refined as possible, and your feedback makes all the difference in the world.

Thanks everyone!

I think the ultimate (The Purge of Flame) could use a little more description, slightly unclear.

This is sick, here are just a few ideas:

-Don't break the 4th wall it makes people uncomfortable haha: "Hurry, summoner, there are places to be - sinners to burn." (just get rid of the summoner part)

-You may also make some further changes to the description as well as the armor to further specify the differences between him and Pantheon. Also, explain the bell more thoroughly, the concept is somewhat hard to grasp. And are there two effects on his passive?:

"Passive ability: Godspeed - Bo Zhong's bell begins to spurt flames as he is out of combat for more than 10 seconds - increasing his movement speed by 4.5(+.5 per level) until resuming combat.

Bo Zhong's base attack speed increases by 3.6% for every 100 mana he currently has."

-You might reconsider the movement speed idea, this is oddly similar to Caitlin and Evelyn's passives. I see your interest in it, it suites his character, but make it more unique than that.

-Lastly, further critique your manna costs (I might suggest something similar to Kassadan, especially for the dash). This is especially in light of the fact that building mana on him seems to be a viable build. You may as well make him more of a late game champ while you're at it (just a thought).

Nice job.

This is a very neat champion concept, I like it. There are some very unique concepts here such as attack speed based on current mana. However I can't quite figure out what this champion's niche is. Is he an ap mid, hybrid/ap top lane, or hybrid jungle? His ap ratios are so good compared to his ad ratios that I can't imagine him being legitimately played anything but pure ap assassin. However his kit suggests that he is meant to build ad because of his hybrid scalings. If he is meant to be an ap assassin, then I would suggest taking some of the useless statistics such as attack speed, and auto attack dependent game play out. If he is meant to be played as a hybrid caster/duelist, then I would suggest lowering some of the ap ratios and buffing some of the ad ratios on his abilities to make alternate build paths viable. Also adding a slow to one of his abilities might help in making him a viable jungler as most jungles need some from of cc to make ganks successful. A very unique play style though, I would like to see a champion like this in league as he looks like a ton of fun to play. I forsee either manamune or archangel's staff being a staple on this champion depending on his ratios. Also for clarification, are the fireballs on his ult meant to be something that you manually fire like Irelia's ult? Or is is that they automatically fire one fireball every second for seven seconds? If the fireballs deal 100% ap damage for each ball then I would highly suggest that you not only tone down the base damage, but the scaling as well. 700% of a champion's ap is waaaaaaaaaaay too much damage to be fair. His ult alone would be enough to kill nearly any champion in the game seeing as the highest ap scaling in the game right now is 2.5. Nunu has this scaling on his ult and think of how easily he can kill an entire team with it. Overall a very good job on the design. He is very creative and would bring a lot to the rift.

Great job on this champ, love all the work you put into it. I just wanted to make a quick critique on his lore/appearance as it relates to his role.

His title is the "blazing sentinel" which is very cool, but this implies that he is a protector (the word sentinel literally means "one that keeps guard"). Similarly, his lore is all about him serving as a guard, one who stands watch and braces against invading forces. The sketches paint him as a heavily armored warrior.

With all this in mind, I feel like his kit is suffering a bit from what i'd call "Aatrox syndrome" insomuch it doesn't seem to really relate to this general theme of protecting and guarding. His abilities are primarily offensive in nature and none really evoke the theme of defending something. I love the moves you've created here, but is there some way you can tweak them so that they express this aspect of his character a bit more?

Overall it's very cool, I just wonder if there could be greater synergy between the lore character and the kit.

In response to sgtspartan89:

I do understand that the champion build potential may sound a bit unorganized, but I assure you that it is not the case. I am well aware that there are champions that have very linear builds strategies (one trick ponies so-to-speak), and I thought it would be nice to design a champion who could either build as an AP assassin, a halfway decent jungler, or an ever-so-rare hybrid melee fighter, and to me, it's half the fun to play around with this character's build potential. The game is more enjoyable for me when I put my own personal spins on builds to make the build strategy unique and seemingly my own brainchild, and there are many who I believe would agree with this.

Also, I changed the scale values for the abilities, because I think I was posting some very incorrect data - numbers that should not have been that high in the first place. I apologize for the temporary imbalance. Maybe it was just the way the data was worded? either way, I did my best to fix it.

I think his Q does to much for its cost, or just for the power budget in general
