What's IEM and Why Should I Care?

I thought the players were getting a week off from the LCS? I mean, technically they are, but I figured they'd be relaxing. What's the difference between this and the LCS?

IEM gives out rewards such as cash prices and such and you get the chance to play against international teams and gain experience which doesn't happen often. And IEM was way before LCS and is where most bragging rights where held. Its kinda like trtradition.

IEM is done by ESL (a collaboration of multiple companies) that came together to provide a tournament format for eSports. They hold 5 Qualification tournaments in different regions of the world (This years was San Jose/ Shenzhen/ Cologne/ Taipei) that are sort of a qualifier.

It provides a basis of international experience, team prestige (gloating), and cash moneys. The organization of this is not determined by Riot Games, but they do work with ESL to present it.

As RexZor mentioned, it is a traditional staple for eSports competition (before LoL, and still one of its more popular is StarCraft). And it gives us Joe Miller! And how doesn't like Joe.
